Well done everyone who backed Minding (and good call on Architecture EW as well!).
June 3, 2016 at 15:53 #1249356Well done seaing stars, I didn’t know you were also on Architecture. Well done to
all who did well out of Minding too
June 3, 2016 at 15:55 #1249357What a filly! Pure class to get out of trouble like that. She’s got everything, stamina, speed, class, breeding and temperament.
Am happy with Harlequeen 25/1 ew.
Well done to all those TRFers who kept the faith with Minding.
Value Is EverythingJune 3, 2016 at 15:58 #1249358I really hope Diamonds Pour Moi is okay!

Not sure but she didn’t look too bad when she pulled up so hope and pray that it is just a setback and jockey erred on the side of caution pulling her up.
Just heard…. Been assessed by the vet now and seems OK what good news.
WOW what a filly Minding is, so brave and she just sprouted wings to catch Architecture who looked all over the winner.
Got a smack on the nose from Kevin Manning on Turret Rocks and still she soldiered on. So proud to see a filly run like that even though I didn’t have a penny on her…it’s not all about the money.Well done to all who backed her and Seabird what a great double you must have thought it was all over when Architecture hit the front but this tough little lady was having none of it.
Shame that there will be no meet up with Frankel in the sheds both being by Galileo (what a fantastic stallion he is).
Really exciting race and managed to get a 3rd place with Harlequeen so that’s fine
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...June 3, 2016 at 15:59 #1249359Bit of a puzzle in that you would think the soft ground would put a greater emphasis on stamina yet the first three places were filled by the horses who were considered to have the biggest stamina doubts beforehand.
The supposedly certain stayers were beaten miles. Was it a case of only three horses handling the ground?
June 3, 2016 at 16:05 #1249361Huge congrats to those that kept the faith. Sounds like she did it well. Pure class
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"

It is a little puzzling Stilvi. The time wasn’t anywhere near the quickest of the day; so despite those at the back early finishing in the first three places – overall pace wasn’t overly fast. May be the front runners overdid it in one particular spot. May be “slow – quick – slow”?

Simon Rowlands’ Epsom piece will be interesting to read.
But at the moment I think the front three were the only ones to show their form, a coincidence they all came from rear.
Skiffle made up ground going really well before not appearing to stay and/or didn’t act and/or third race in quick succession came too soon. Somehow looks a bit of a madam/temperament. Turret Rocks wrong ground, Seventh Heaven never really going and messed around by the trouble. Australian Queen not good enough and Diamonds Pour Moi went wrong.
Value Is EverythingJune 3, 2016 at 16:21 #1249365I don’t think the pace was very fast and the front two home are essentially speed horses at the trip. Harlequeen has run really well and ideally wants a greater emphasis on stamina.
I expect the first two will prove ultimately to be best at ten furlongs.
June 3, 2016 at 16:24 #1249366Cheers BigG, don’t think I got around to posting on here but I liked the way she went at Breakfast with the Stars and hoped it might count for something.
Glad to hear that Diamonds Pour Moi is thought to be OK too.
June 3, 2016 at 16:41 #1249370What price did Minding hit in running?
She made the ground back like a superstarGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
June 3, 2016 at 16:45 #1249372A fine filly who’ll have a great chance in the Arc, though she might not want a lot of cut. Haven’t seen her in the flesh but on TV she looks quite heavy-topped with a neck like a bull and I wonder if her muscled front didn’t help in that soft ground defeat.
She’d be something to see on proper good ground in a 12f Grade 1.
Despite the battle with the runner-up (well done Big G and other Architecture fans), she won with a fair bit in hand and her turn of foot to pass the others as she attacked was something to be seen. It would have been even more interesting to watch had her route been trouble-free throughout.
Shame the Coolmore lads feared embarrassing their colts by running her in The Derby
June 3, 2016 at 17:09 #1249374Thanks Joe, and I agree with you that after that display she would have been
a serious player in the Derby, but she hasn’t done too badly.I don’t get how Architecture is being mentioned as having stamina doubts?
Her last race, in the Oaks Fillies trial Stakes, was what made my mind up
that she was an Oaks horse. In her fight with Seventh Heaven at Lingfield,
over 1m 3 1/2f, she never looked like stopping and ran on impressively at
the end. As I mentioned before, IMO, she would have gotten the better of
Seventh Heaven with another 1/2f. It was also her 1st race of the season,
compared to SH who had won 3 weeks earlier at Dundalk.Incidentally, I did hear Ryan Moore’s comment on her (Architecture) getting the
trip, not sure where that came from, but she saw it out extremely well. If
Minding is as good as she looks, and I’m sure she is, then there’s a decent
race to be won with Architecture.June 3, 2016 at 17:31 #1249378Shame the Coolmore lads feared embarrassing their colts by running her in The Derby
if she had won the Derby, how much extra money might she have made them in the breeding sheds ?
would it ever be more than even an OK-ish stallion ?
isn’t it necessarily a question of money for “the lads” ?
June 3, 2016 at 18:25 #1249383Well done to everyone that had the winner or one of the places

It was great to see a class act and I do stand corrected regarding Minding she is superb and WOW what a turn of foot to get Mr Grumpy out of trouble!!!
June 3, 2016 at 18:49 #1249405WD to all minding believers. Fully deserved

I’m not a Flat follower, wit, but according to another poster (forgive me not digging back for the name on what seemed a very well informed post), Coolmore place little value on their fillies from a money-making perspective in the breeding sheds as everything is kept in house.
June 3, 2016 at 19:38 #1249412The race was over-analysed going into it and is being over-analysed in the aftermath.
There was one group 1 quality filly in the race and that was all we needed to know.
Skiffle was laughably rated 108 by the Racing Post going into this. They rated her 79 for her run today. What is more likely? That she really ran 29 pounds below her best or she just wasn’t 108 to start with?
I fancied Turret Rocks to beat some of these based on the form but the biggest problem she had, and the reason that I didn’t do her each way was the stable form.
Jim Bolger was interviewed before the race and was bullish that he wouldn’t swap his filly for anything else in the race. Channel 4 gave it large about Jim being a master but, as usual, the facts were passed over. The fact is that Jim Bolger doesn’t win these big races very often and he’s largely been out of contention for a couple of years now. Scanning the form of the past couple of weeks showed several Bolger horses running from 30 to 50 points below their Racing Post Ratings.
Turret Rocks was rated 35 for her effort today on Racing Post Ratings. That is a full 75 below her perceived rating by the same people. For me, that’s a hammer blow on Moonlight Magic’s chances in the Derby. He is another horse that Jim Bolger will not swap for anything else. Turret Rocks was 7/1 earlier this week but touched 12/1 today. The market knew she wasn’t going to win.
Seventh Heaven was another to run miles below her rating today. Ryan Moore had felt she might confirm form with Architecture but she was miles off it. This filly and Somehow were reported by Aidan to have been unsuited by Lingfield and Chester respectively and it makes you wonder why they were sent to Epsom in the first place?
I thought Horse Racing was about learning from runs and planning accordingly? I looks here that they found out what the story was and still ran anyway. Not very scientific but these people have a lot more money than me and must be doing something right.
Diamonds Pour Moi went wrong but she was a terrible price I felt. The form looked weak and the way Somehow ran indicated that it was very likely the Beckett filly was on a fools errand in this class.
The best horse won this and that has to be good for the sport. I suspect outside of the 1st and 2nd here, we are looking at glorified handicappers.
The Racing Post had Minding running 3lbs below her rating today and Architecture improving 15 lbs. The circumstances suggest to me that Minding probably got hampered to the value of more than 3lbs. My initial thought was that it would cost her the race but class normally will come to the fore and more so when you are facing overrated opposition.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
