Why not just scrap the bogus
Champions Day
? Simpler and far more effective in restoring rationality and decent temporal spacing to the European Pattern.
(Might as well get this in now as later!)
I think I’ll wait and see the first one before I damn the whole thing.
Y’know people called the first football World Cup names before it even started too.
‘risk sports’
High stakes, low odds, global markets, corruption rife.
Football & cricket.
There was an article on the BBC about it a couple of months ago.
As we await the onslaught of the winter 0/50 festivals I leave you to enjoy the dross both on the track and on this outpost
Ricky
It’s statements like THIS which drag the forum down.
If you leaving the forum make sure you go for a good long while & let people who actually like racing have a say.
Please welcome – the QIPCO Champions Day Barbershop Quartet!
Good idea.
Pinza
‘s happy to volunteer as the Bass, to
Drone
‘s Baritone. You may well know that the horse of this name took his moniker from the great operatic bass singer, Ezio Pinza.
Any takers for the two top lines?
Well, ok.
But no numbers in Latin alright?!
Well you certainly didn’t see me jumping up & down as I’d backed Debussy. It’s my own stupid fault – horses need more than eleven days between runs really.
This low class racing (Listed? What’s that? Piffle that’s what!) is all bent as a nine bob note.
Could she be the one who thinks that Matt Dawson can add something to a TV programme about horse racing, or anythng else for that matter, I wonder?
Absolutely right Pendil, she hasn’t got a clue.
All I want is a programme that actually previews each of the races that Channel 4 are showing that day. All of this dressing down and quiz stuff is ridiculous. They should make it something like "Mark Your Card" that Racing UK does every Saturday
I think Mark Your Card doing the job might be the reason The Morning Line isn’t.
Racing UK provide Channel 4 with their pictures don’t they?
Now there’s an idea:
Please welcome – the QIPCO Champions Day Barbershop Quartet!
It would certainly be better than that video they’ve got doing the rounds (which features Canford Cliffs I do believe – that would be some comeback!)
To be honest, it isn’t the dumbing down of The Morning Line that bothers me.
What bothers me is the extent to which it tries to be a serious racing preview programme & an early morning racing themed entertainment show & fails so miserably on both counts.
They should either ditch the ‘dumbed down’ gimmicks or ditch the pretence of them being a serious programme. I’d go for the former too given that the racing channels are pretty good at the latter.
I hadn’t really noticed that they’d all got scruffed up. It’s a shame too because Francombe really loves his natty suits.
Y’know I spent a long time on this very forum defending The Morning Line but good grief, what a dull & uninformative programme it has become.
I’d be rather glad that Tanya says ‘bedding’ because it allows my mind to wander.
It’s just shame that Alice Plunkett doesn’t say ‘bedding’ too.
On another point the London Evening Standard has stopped carrying racecards in the last while
I wouldn’t read too much into that. The Evening Standard need as much room for adverts as possible given their current financial situation. I almost surprised they still cover news.
Pinza , its just a symptom of how the forum stands at the moment , and why we have lost most of the real quality posters
Shame
Ricky
Of course it is.
And the miserable sods that never have a good thing to say about racing & insist that much of it is bent garbage has got nothing to do with it I suppose?
Me, for once.
Me too!
And Debussy AND Jukebox Jury.
It’s been a good day.
A little annoyed, I’ve been backing Premio Loco all season. Today he wins & where was I? At the chippy!
Someone knew something.
All the other horses in the race were ‘stopped’
It was a weak renewal of the race.
The jockey on (horse name) was useless.
Etcetera.
Incidentally I believe Sheffield FC also spent a short time playing at Owlerton Greyhound Stadium..
They played at Abbeydale Park when I lived in Sheffield. Shamefully, neither I nor to the best of my knowledge any of my family ever attended one of their games. Which is akin to those who do all their shopping at Tesco moaning about the loss of Corner Shops
Are football teams affiliated to the FA in the lower divisions (Conference, Northern Premier etc) in receipt of any financial support from the FA i.e the equivalent of a ‘levy’ payment, or do they go it alone?
‘Two tier’ racing has been mooted by some, so perhaps the BHA etc should explore football’s financial and regulatory structure if we are to keep all 60 Rules racecourses extant over what appears to be a rather bleak-looking near future
Point to point on the flat?
A few quid to get in, a pie van by the winning post & no pandering to pocket talkers. Sounds good to me.
Non league clubs receive funding from the FA for ground improvements & some for youth projects but I don’t think they get any for day to day operations.
It tends to be clubs that are overly ambitious that come a cropper. Rushden & Diamonds and Boston United spring to mind along with Crawley Town (fingers crossed!)
However there is a bigger picture which you anoraks want to keep ignoring , and that is , if you keep supplying low grade fare on a regular basis , punters will eventually migrate to other sports (and roulette machines) which is getting close to doomsday for the funding of the sport
It isn’t the migration of punters that’s screwed up the Levy, it’s the migration of bookmakers.
What will see punters migrate is people who are supposedly on the side of racing telling everyone what they’ve just seen is garbage and/or bent.
It must be great to be a Londoner at the moment.
‘Well I didn’t like any of the candidates last time, hopefully this time it will be better. What? The same three dickheads AGAIN?’
McGrath makes me sick.
A typical know all that knows nothing.
RFC are a disaster but so is Jim McGrath commentating.
Isn’t this thread about the other McGrath?
