As the saying goes, small things…..
Chill out marb!
Even if KS loses, Fist has still got all those lady boys to ease his tension!
31 Chases, 13 wins, 5 seconds, 4 thirds, 1 Fell, 1 UR and 1 PU suggests connections have campaigned him well throughout his chasing career
The Betfair Chase and Lexus show he is still capable of putting in 160+ performances
why should connections of a horse that has this CV not run him at Aintree??
These credentials give him more chance of completing and running a decent race than a lot of his fellow combatants
I’m sure they do – and I’m also sure that the likes of Dorans Pride and Persian Punch would agree with you wholeheartedly.
Personally i may not have a bet on this race as it looks like a race to savour and aslong as all the runners come back safe and sound lets have a Gold Cup which will rival and even maybe surpass the Desert Orchid/Yahoo battle which always brings a lump to the throat.
Assuming the perceived main protagonists turn up on the day, it will be a race to savour, which doesn’t preclude the idea of betting on the outcome.
The battle you refer to doesn’t quite match up, considering that Yahoo was just a handicapper who happened to have conditions to suit on the day. That said, replays of the race continue to bring bile to my throat, having backed Yahoo at 25/1.

Colin
perhaps he’s being saved for those long distance races"
And you can just see the headstone being inscribed…
‘Goodbye Old Faithful Friend.’
Unless there’s a very good reason not to, retire him now.

Seems fine now.Given his connection with the PN stable, it’s to be hoped that Alex Ferguson hasn’t been gifted a share in either of the ‘big 2’.
Can just imagine him throwing toys out of the pram on being told about the stud fees!Eh Stud Fees
Poor attempt at a joke, I know, requiring the reader to posess some level of intelligence and irony. At least your reply didn’t have all those tiresome Cheltenham A/P losers attached to it, though!

Does PN hold a flat license?
Perhaps a little bit more competitive on the scene, over-all, back then. Mind you, I’m sure that PN wouldn’t mind being a bit slimmer!
Just a week Fist?
A mixed bag that you mention but interesting to see Highway Rambler in there (Canadius was pretty good too) and also Border Incident – he was a class horse. Aside from some of the other usual suspects, I used to like the USA imports – As a kid I backed Soothsayer E/W at 66/1 in Ten Up’s Gold Cup and later came Fort Devon – reportedly a vicious bugger – but a beautiful big Chestnut. It was interesting, too, when Derek Kent had some of the NZ horses – Grand Canyon was exciting and Navigation wasn’t bad either.
You stick to Mordin mate, the fewer people use Timeform the bigger the edge us subscribers have
Whilst the use of Timeform may confer some advantages, e.g., saving of time, or offering paddock comments, does the modern punter need to rely upon such a service. So much information is either freely available or readily accessible these days that, surely, many aspects of the Timeform product are virtually redundant.
Sorry Mike that I can’t help with any current and recent stats.
However, I seem to remember that when Henry Cecil was in his pomp, the less-fancied runner in 3YO maidens often won at a decent price.
For me, though, the most amusing example of a second string winning came in the Ascot Stakes of 1976 when the Jeremy Hindley-trained Tudor Crown, a supposed pacemaker for the same-stable favourite Coed Cochion, made all to win at 66/1. One for the Serious Crime Squad, I’m sure!
‘The great Nick Mordin’? Yes, the guy’s an absolute hoot and what on earth would we mere mortals have done without him?
Gems along the line of, So&So, winner of the claimer at Southwell on Tuesday posted a speed rating of 39, marking him as a future Group 2 winner, really are priceless. We can also rely upon the likes of, If you’d restricted the bets to those horses with 7 letters in their name running in a month with an ‘R’ in it’s name, those 4 qualifiers over the last 13 years would have netted you an immense profit of 36 pence to a £1 level stake.
They guy really does know the game inside out and we should be grateful that he deigns to share it with us all.
And if he’d won the Greatwood?

Without them we would maybe have only a few racing days each week like they do in Ireland.
Could that be anything to do with the reason that the Irish whip your backside at Cheltenham every year?
Yes, many of the horses and some of the jockeys, too, should be shot.
Whatever the situation, I find it hard to believe that any other ‘major’ sport with, perhaps, the exception of British tennis is being run on worse terms than horse racing in this country at the present time. Aside from the dross that is presented on a day-to-day basis, the ‘pattern’ is maintained (albeit with the mutilation of individual race names), seemingly without regard for the changes that are taking place within international racing.
I suspect, however, that in a country in which brand and profit represent the primary credo, your grade 5 and 6 races are secure for a while yet.
February 4, 2008 at 22:07 in reply to: All Weather Racing – where have all the runners gone? #140254Funny how nobody ever refers to Nad Al Sheba as an AW track – or slags off the Dubai World Cup as just another low grade AW race.
Coould that be anything to do with the fact the the races there aren’t an endless cycle of s***e?
Token gestures are made, chiefly at Lingfield, to pretend that a standard of racing, above and beyond class 5 and 6 contests, exist on the AW. Funny, though, how the higher grade races seem to attract the same old faces, with resultingly small fields and unreliable pace. Largely uncompetitive racing run for the benefit of the few and of interest to even less.
