Is it my imagination or has there been a significant fall in the number of runners on the AW this winter compared to previous years? There seemed to be a lot more in the past and I can’t remember there being many races a few years ago which had less than 5 runners – today there are three of them.
There are only 7 races at the two meetings which have 8 runners or more.
If there has been a reduction in runners on the AW this winter then does anybody know why this is?

If you have a spoonful of jam, it doesn’t cover any more just because you make an extra slice of toast.

February 4, 2008 at 09:47 #140029maybe a lot of owners are fed up of shelling out a small fortune and racing for peanuts while bookies make fortunes
February 4, 2008 at 10:08 #140035Robnorth, agree massive overkill, cant wait for great leighs.
.Charlie D, your listening to hype, bookies make millions? why has the levy, which represents 10% GP on UK HORSE RACING, dropped from £120M in 2004 to £89M this year and projected £50M in 2010,
I,m looking to open betting shops without screen coverage of uk racing.
who needs it?

Next you will be claiming to be selling all your pitches I suppose?
Cant see you will be in a profit there somehow! After that when Lesley Graham ‘phones up for your bismark tell her you concentrate more on Lucksin Downs nowadays and in the second race the favs got no chance!
February 4, 2008 at 10:59 #140058Perhaps people are finally realising that all weather racing is an aberration and an affront to all that is decent about racing in this country.
Bring on even smaller fields and the closure of the all weather courses with Kempton and Lingfield returning to proper racing.
If people still want to bet on sand racing there is plenty from the US blighting our screens seven evenings a week.

!Selling???? it sounds as though he should be paying someone to take them off his hands
