Thought it was a poor ride from choc given what Ruby’s horse was doing all the way round, Harry not impressive and for me not an RSA horse anyway, and neither will worry punchy unless he’s below par, altho Bensalem the one to take out of the race.

I backed Bensalem for the RSA after going to a visit at Alan King’s yard and hearing him wax lyrical but the horse just isn’t getting his jumping together on the course.

King said after today’s race he wasn’t that keen on meeting Diamond Harry again and Bensalem would get an entry in the William Hill…

Ruby’s come clean – his fault!

Which puts him head and shoulders over AP in this case.

On Ch4 before the Aon there was a bit of chat about how McCoy was riding shorter than Walsh, and how a longer leg could help a jock stay on.. which of course was promptly illustrated!

The joust is over,i have watched the race several times as i always do before i commit to comment! Long Run is not an Arkle horse,he was flat to the boards today to maintain that gallop,it was purely the fact he has stamina in abundance that allowed him to stride out like he did!

What was the race time like? I’m not really that good with pace; early on they didn’t look to me that they were going fast enough for Long Run. Not saying that I would put him in the Arkle though!

I just wanted to say thank you for this thread.. it’s really interesting.

Must admit whilst I never wish a horse ill, I wasn’t sorry Foreman didn’t complete the other day. I really dislike the way professional trainers are barging in with their "former top class chasers".

Like Kauto Star, I think Master Minded looks rather fetching in his noseband – it’s certainly made me a bigger fan.

Didn’t help him notice he had one more fence though, did it!

All the people I know who criticised the choice said it was because they believed that he would put Denman on the floor because his style wouldn’t sit with the horse, and it didn’t.

Ok, personally I’ve never been a fan of AP, but I adore Denman and if I thought he was right for the horse I’d have been happy enough. But he’s just not somehow. Remember, Hen Knight once said he wasn’t right for Best Mate; there’s a big difference between being the "best jockey" and the "best jockey for the horse".

Unfortunately now if they dare jock off McCoy,who"s record is 2nd to none

except at recent Cheltenham Festivals, where he’s second to pretty much everyone?

If they were too stubborn to stick with Sam Thomas, then they should have been straight on the phone to Barry Geraghty.

Add me to the disappointed pile.

There’s "the best jockey" and "the best jockey for the horse", and they are not the same thing.

Do wonder if this means What A Friend *will* run – didn’t the owners specifically ask for Sam Thomas to ride him?

Wincanton looked to have done a terrible job with Treasulier, from watching RUK. The horse was still down when the runners came round again, and they were waved past the fence – and you could clearly see him thrashing around because they only put the screens up between the horse and the fence.

Very sad end to a lovely horse and even worse to know it was his first fall in such a long time.

And thank you, Sauron.. I hadn’t realised there were so Roseliers left.

I mentioned this when the RP were looking for feedback, but I’d like to know when a horse was meant to run, and got as far as the racecourse, but didn’t.

For example, if a horse refuses to go into the stalls. I see no difference between this and the horse refusing to come out of the stalls (other than possibly to a bet). It’s useful to know if a horse has issues like that, but also to know if the horse was considered ready to run, and how long ago.

doublethetrouble– very interesting comments, would there be a consensus among forum users that there is a need for a new racecard/form outlet online? If yes, what would you like to see done differently?

A simple one would be great. I don’t want to carry bits of newspaper about and some courses are taking the mick with the price of a racecard.

There’s another 4 miler at Kelso on Sunday – well done race planning for running three marathon races in the space of three days, crazy.

Does race planning actually exist any more? I thought courses just bid for whatever days they fancied.

I was at a point-to-point the day Killiney was killed and I never saw his fall. For me there are three – Alverton in the National when he somersaulted at Bechers Brook

Alverton was my first. I didn’t actually see him run, as I was only 9 and for my sins my parents forced me to go to a schoolfriend’s birthday party (and I mean forced, I had several tantrums). When my mum came to pick me up all I wanted to know was the result. Being a small child I blamed my parents for quite some time…

Someone else has mentioned Strong Promise. I took the afternoon off work to watch the race; I’d been in love with the horse since I’d seen him in at Cheltenham in the Sun Alliance. I knew immediately his fall was fatal, and switched off the TV. Didn’t watch the remainder of the meeting and I don’t think I watched any jump racing until I went to Cheltenham at the start of the following season. I didn’t know until I was talking to a friend a few days later that poor Lake Kariba had collapsed and died after the race as well.

With One Man as well, I’ve come to deeply dislike the Aintree meeting. I went completely to pieces when Denman fell there so I really hope they never send him for the National. Or any other race at Aintree.

I was down by the bend at Cheltenham the day that Martin Pipe lost Draborgie and Mack the Knife, and they both pulled up in front of me. I never was a fan of Pipe but I’ll not forget the look on his face (or David Bridgewater’s) as he walked back down the track.

Thanks for that link! I love Punjabi and backed him for the Triumph as well as his Champion Hurdle runs. I was pretty thrilled when he was third, so I nearly expired when he won last season.

She’s one big mare, all the video I’ve seen of her she just monsters the other horses around her. I didn’t realise she’s had dressage training, I was really impressed by her Spanish Walk!

Original is the biggest racehorse I’ve ever seen – he’s 18.2 hands.
