Anyone else find it strange why tomorrow’s London National is being run at 3:30. Surely with a marathon chase that will take approximately 8 minutes on heavy ground, with the race potentially running slightly late, plus the risk of bad weather making conditions even murkier, this race should have been run earlier in the day. It could be pitch black come the end of the race.
As for the autumn/winter’s first 4 miler (due to the sad loss of the Hexham race) there are plenty of well bred individuals capable of making their mark. I like the "Twister’s" Go West even though he is currently very weak on Betfair and I would at the weights say Zimbabwe for a place but he absolutely seems to hate this race!
Dartnall’s horse has to be respected and his owner’s obviously like targetting these marathon chases but I worry about the sire. The damsire, no problems, but Shernazar has yet to show me he can produce a winner over four miles.
I do worry about some of these younger horses being able to see out this trip, so I will concetrate on the older ones today.

December 4, 2009 at 19:00 #262117Hi, KC, I was wondering what the record of Presentings was in 4m+ races, before today’s winner?
December 4, 2009 at 23:36 #262154There’s another 4 miler at Kelso on Sunday – well done race planning for running three marathon races in the space of three days, crazy.

Does race planning actually exist any more? I thought courses just bid for whatever days they fancied.
December 5, 2009 at 07:22 #262184Don’t really see the problem – unless you want to watch all three in person.
One is on the South West, One is in London and one is up North somewhere.
One is Low class (0-120), and the other two are (0-145) and (0-150), though the 0-145 is worth more the 0-150.
It gives a 3 week break to Boxing Day, or a 4 week break to New Year’s Day, and a bit longer break to the race at Warwick.
December 5, 2009 at 12:03 #262233Given that the average handicap chase field would be about 10, and there was a double figure field at Exeter, 9 declared at Sandown and 10 at Kelso, I’d say there isn’t too much of a problem.
