Don’t know why they made this decision so quickly after the race.
They could have taken their time to have a think, surely?
Well, I’ve seen it…and I still don’t believe it.
With about 75 yds to go I just got the impression that the jockey though ‘****, I’m going to win this, better do something.’
Rotten.
It’s not a race for me to get involved in but just on the issue of the draw.
On fast ground, when the stalls are low, over this course and distance, stalls 1 and 2 have only won 5 out of the last 25 races. Perhaps the low draw isn’t as important as previously thought?
Just on the issue of trainer form…
I’m aware that there are a number of ways of assessing whether a stable is in form or not but in my opinion Dunlop’s stable are running far behind market expectation. Looking at his last 40 runners, and more specifically the SPs of his last 40 runners, the market estimated that he should have had 6.6 winners. He had 2.
I suspect Betfair SPs would be more accurate in predicting how his runners perform but I don’t have that data.
Would’t disagree with the vast majority of what you say Ginger, but I’m judging other people’s responses to Lydia Hislop’s posts. I’m not really sure what you mean when you say I may be judging her by her sex.
If she posts then you can expect a large number of obsequious responses very very quickly.
It’s laughable to be honest but hey-ho if it lights up the lives of those doing it then that’s up to them.
I think for too long the site has suffered from an unwelcome self-congratulatory tone. Too often ‘established’ posters (whoever they are, even the term drips with condescension) remark on how great the forum is, how learned people are, how respected individuals are. Sorry, but the constant back-slapping is tiresome.
My second gripe is when the so-called ‘famous’ racing folk post and the rush to genuflection that always follows. The best example of this is whenever Lydia Hislop contributes. I’m absolutely certain that some posters are secretly thinking ‘hmm, if I say something nice to Lydia then perhaps I’ll get up one morning and have a private message from La Hislop thanking me for my contribution and suggesting a little cosy meet-up somewhere.’ She’s female, she sometimes posts on here – that’s all!
I’ve used her as an example because the response to her is the most nauseating but there are others on here who may have worked in the game, written a couple of books and suddenly they’re responded to as if they’ve just discovered a cure for cancer.
New people have joined. Jockeys are getting stick/abuse on a far more regular basis. I don’t agree with most of it and I’ve posted my view. Can’t really understand why it’s such a big issue.

Really enjoyed reading your blog and was fascinated by your comment on how athletes have improved their physical performance considerably in the last 40-50 years but you say that there hasn’t been a similar improvement from thoroughbred racecourses.
Anyway, my question is why can’t a middle distance horse racing over 10-12F train like a human distance runner does for the same event?
A horse can train in that manner, but only if the trainer is willing to use intervals and stick out from his competition, not many are set up to do that here in the US where most horses get 10-15 min a day max of exercise
I was going to start a topic yesterday after reading Paul Roy’s comments in the RP. Some of his guff I found absolutely astonishing.
The usual suspects were identified as being the root of racing’s problems: punters and bookmakers. I’m absolutely sick and tired of this. As a punter I know I’m not supposed to stick up for bookmakers but I’ve yet to hear a cogent response to the following question:
Why should bookmakers pay more money to racing?
If there’s less money to go round….then, well, there’s less money to go round. So instead of accepting that prize-money will fall or the fixture list will be reduced what we’ll do is attack punters and bookmakers. Yes, that makes perfect sense. After all, we can’t ask owners to put more money into the game can we? Nooooooooooo, that just wouldn’t be how we do things dear boy.
There’s a very poor quality video of the race on YouTube just now. A racegoer has used either a mobile phone or a camera to film the race. If you put Buzzzword and Hamburg in the search engine you’ll find it.
There’ll probably be a better quality version up soon.
‘We intend no comment on the rule in question… (the laying of one’s own horses)’
However, in the rest of the sentence the appeal board do offer significant comment on the rule in question asking for a distinction to be made between those trading and those up to no good.
Whatever your view of the rule, the sentencing and appeal process looks amateurish and dim-witted.
Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, who rode the winner today of the Bunbury Cup?
…by a neck
…in a driving finish
…from K FallonWhen I looked at this week’s fixtures last weekend I thought ‘great, the new coalition Government has given us an extra Bank Holiday.’
After all, 6 meetings in the UK today?
Just a shame I was working when everybody else enjoyed the holiday.

There have been times this week when I’ve cursed jockeys and thought that someone was conspiring against me – especially on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
However, after seeing that I realise how fortunate punters in the UK are.
We’re often told how passionate, vocal, emotional the French are, but if that had happened at a racecourse in the UK or Ireland I’m fairly sure that the jockeys on the ‘hold-up’ horses would have needed an armed guard to leave work.
Thanks for the tip, much appreciated!
Last summer, when I had some free time, I opened accounts with most firms and went through the whole ‘matched betting’ thing and took my free bets from all. I’m sure we’ve all done it.
Anyway, I’ve only got three accounts now (Betfair +2 others) so I had ignored my Betfred one.
Thanks again. Every little helps – as some group says.
Really was an astonishing BSP.
Some incredible in-running business done at Ascot over the last few days (not from me, just an observation).
Goldikova went to 40 something in running; Ransom Note was backed at 1000 in-running but wasn’t backed below 1.2
All very strange.
Agree with the post above. We can have all the information we like but if a senior jockey in the weighing room shouts ‘hey, that far side hasn’t seen water for months’, then there’s every chance the rest will follow.
I’m sure there was a sheep-like noise made by one of the RUK presenters on Saturday at Sandown. After the carry-on at Sandown on Friday in the last two races and then a similar muddle in the first two races at the same venue the following day it’s hard to criticise the animal sounds which came from the RUK booth.
Yes, it was Dermot the doper who rode Ashley House.
