Hi All
Just heard that Monterosso has been beaten by Buzzword today but haven’t been able to see the race.
I thought that the sky the limit for him after his win in the Edward VII at Ascot, and cannot believe that Buzzword has turned the form around as he was beaten almost 5 lengths at Ascot.
Has anyone seen the race, and was there any excuse ?July 18, 2010 at 18:28 #307140I made him my place lay of the day on the grounds that be was ridden from a long way out at at The Curragh and had a fairly hard race -he has been on the go for a long time and today’s race wasn’t a soft touch.in my opinion Monteroso never travelled today and never looked like winning or getting placed for that matter.
Unfortunately for me an earlier rush of blood to the head meant I only had 10per cent of my intended bet.July 18, 2010 at 18:30 #307142Never saw the race either, but the reversal is not at all surprising considering the poor ride Buzzword got at Ascot. Justice was done.
July 18, 2010 at 18:31 #307143There’s a very poor quality video of the race on YouTube just now. A racegoer has used either a mobile phone or a camera to film the race. If you put Buzzzword and Hamburg in the search engine you’ll find it.
There’ll probably be a better quality version up soon.
July 18, 2010 at 19:18 #307155Theres an upload with simultaneous German and English commentary:

However, please note that the result was amended as Jimmy Fortune on third placed Sir Lando *blue and white colours) was judged to have hampered Jozef Bojko on fourth place Russian Tango and those placings were reversed. Personally, I didn’t see anything wrong, however Russian Tango is owned by the sponsor of the German Derby!
Fallon was hard at work on Monterosso about 7 furlongs out, but he actually stayed on quite well all things considering. Scalo was taken incredibly wide by Eddie Pedroza, and that really cost him his chance.

Monterosso actually stayed on quite well. He was given a very poor ride stuck in a pocket, hes a horse who needs daylight and wouldnt of liked been trapped preventing him from really lengthening.
Remember his run at Ripon earlier this year where he got trapped and hampered on the bend. He managed to win that day but that was a 0-95 handicap and this was the German Derby.
For what its worth I really like this horse but in fairness to him hes been on the go since November last year running 10 times since then, and three times in the last 4 weeks.
I think he has earned himself a rest at this stage, I very much doubt he will get one though as fairly nailed on to run in the Voltigeur.

You have to give credit to Al Zarooni though
This horse has raced in England, France, Germany, and America aged just three. Hes was asked some serious questions as a two year old last Autumn and. Hes had a lot of racing too.

Yes, quite right. Buzzword is an underrated horse who’s deserved this day in the sun. He’s been highly tried this year, and should be given a break before (we can hope) a successful Autumn campaign.

Buzzword is a good horse alright.
Hes like a star without all the glory
Ages just three he has earned £444,314 in prize money.
A lot of 2 year olds that run at The Breeders Cup really struggle at 3 but he has done really well.
July 23, 2010 at 09:50 #308044Fallon stated that the course didn’t suit him…needs a bigger track, whatever that means, Hamburg isn’t that small…
July 24, 2010 at 11:41 #308195Was this formerly trained by Richard Hannon?
