Anyone any clues as to the ground/weather/watering forecast? Much appreciated if so…
June 14, 2010 at 15:41 #300516I’m about 10 miles west of Ascot today. Here, it’s been dry, but cloudy & overcast. Has not been overly warm & there’s been a fairly strong, cool (almost chill) breeze. Wouldn’t be the greatest suprise if we caught a shower of rain.
They say it’s going to be dry & brighter over the next few days. Abt 20 degrees, but still with this breeze.
Sorry, can’t help on the going or the watering.
June 14, 2010 at 16:54 #300534The going stick reading from this morning is interesting.
Going
Good
(GoingStick: Standside: 8.6, Centre 8.7, Farside 9.0,Round Course:8.4 on Monday at 11:00)Looks like a bit of a bias on the straight course.
June 14, 2010 at 17:21 #300541They could update more often!
June 15, 2010 at 10:16 #300710Any chance of some updates from Mr Ostermeyer today on the ground and other things?
June 15, 2010 at 10:21 #300714Latest going stick readings are:
Straight course – Stands’ Side 9.2, Centre 9.0, Far Side 9.4
Round Course – 8.6I have not had a chance to walk the course and not sure if I will get time.
June 15, 2010 at 10:32 #300721I noticed the going stick readings for across the course at York last weekend suggested that it was fastest under the stands rail in the straight but the principals in the big sprint came up the middle. I’m very dubious about them – not from a point of view of accuracy – I’m sure the stick says what the stick says, but because they measure the going in a different way to horses, who aren’t propelled along by means of pointy sticks. I’d personally be amazed if the far side is favoured today.

June 15, 2010 at 12:05 #300754I agree with Rory. Stand side has always had the edge in big field 7f and 1m races,
I’ll be betting that continues.
Keep it coming Paul, much appreciated.June 15, 2010 at 12:14 #300758I have to confess I have given up trying to second guess any "bias" on the Ascot straight course.
Whenever you think you have cracked it something disproves the theory.
For me the biggest factor is where the pace horses are – but what do I know?
June 15, 2010 at 12:16 #300760The biggest factor is how stupid the jockeys are, surely? There’s no legislating for that as evidenced by Sandown last week.
June 15, 2010 at 12:31 #300765Agree with the post above. We can have all the information we like but if a senior jockey in the weighing room shouts ‘hey, that far side hasn’t seen water for months’, then there’s every chance the rest will follow.
I’m sure there was a sheep-like noise made by one of the RUK presenters on Saturday at Sandown. After the carry-on at Sandown on Friday in the last two races and then a similar muddle in the first two races at the same venue the following day it’s hard to criticise the animal sounds which came from the RUK booth.
June 15, 2010 at 13:50 #300813First race time – 1:37.74 – suggests G/F rather than Good ground.
June 15, 2010 at 14:03 #300824May be a tailwind, so just hold fire on that.
June 15, 2010 at 14:16 #300833May be a tailwind, so just hold fire on that.
The positions hardly changed in the King’s Stand
Expect front runners to do well today, tail winds favour such tactics.Value Is EverythingJune 15, 2010 at 19:36 #300937If they just covered it with Polytrack or Tapeta we wouldn’t have all this guesswork.
June 20, 2010 at 07:21 #302163They had the carpet fitters in at Deauville

The festival was hugely enjoyable
but the last three races on the wednesday
produced a confusing mist that
descended like an ignoble thief
on the baking heat of the Serengeti
to confound the lions on the standing side
and the hyenas – later laughing their teeth off
on the far side, as they rushed
to consume the stricken punters.Analysis
– Racing Post
The draw played a huge part in this year’s Queen Mary
(the Hunt cup earlier in the card had suggested that would be the case) with he main action taking place towards the far side, and eight of the first ten finishers
emerged from a double figure draw. Indeed the first four finishers came from the top four boxes. This bias was hugely dissapointing for a top class neeting
The last sentence was not highlighted in the racing post
but I have decided to fiddle with it to give
it a higher draw and definition. - AuthorPosts
