Wouldn’t surprise me if the Pipe stable is plotting a National run (dunno if he is entered or not).
The hurdle run could be part of a plan, including 1 or 2 more before the big one, in order to keep his handicap mark down.
The owner seems to have been addicted to trying to win the race over the past decade.
Just a thought.
Big Mac, Thommo, Matt Chapman and The Couch.
What did racing fans do wrong in a previous life to deserve that 4 timer?
You forgot Leslie Graham for the Canadian/Super Yankee.

Racing post seems ok but doesnt seem to list on their website what ratings the horses run off on the day of the race (i.e. today).
Yes they do. Underneath the racecard there is a BHA button. Click this and you’ll see the Official Ratings for today’s race.
Or you can also use the Sporting Life website’s racecards (which include Official Ratings on the racecard).
Oh, the irony of this thread.

Combine a hobby with work.
Hows about trading odds on the exchanges?
You’re clearly a fan of horse racing, so combine the two.
Hobby + Job = Happy Camper

There is already a thread on this subject:
Great. £70K race, and 2 runners. Nothing could be done about the 2 non-runners, but why only 4 declared at the overnight stage?
And trainers/owners moan about lack of opportunities/prize money!

Ridden by classic jockeys such as Willie Eckerslike

I agree regarding Blue Monday.
Most of the main fancies either won’t act on the ground or have a big question mark on it, whereas Blue Monday will have no problems with it. He’s better off at the weights with those from the Caulfield Cup, were he kept on well enough to suggest he may have a chance at the trip. The distance is still the big question mark for him though, but he is by Darshaan, and there is some stamina on the dam’s side.
So at the odds available I reckon he’s worth a small e/w fun bet.
He went 5 wide because he had a no choice – crap draw.
Best turf miler in the world imo, just hasn’t had the chance to prove it in his last 3 runs. Given too much to do in last 2 European runs, and a poor draw tonight to scupper his chance.
Hope they keep him in training next year to prove just how good he really is.
marb,
You may be sad about this wonderfully enegmatic horse sadly losing his life (just as I am), but please grow up and stop making yourself look like a plonker by unfairly castigating the Sporting Life’s fair job of reporting a devoloping story.
As far as I’m concerned they have done a good job.
(If you don’t like it, look elsewhere for your racing news and quit whining).
Desperate news.

Another for tomorrow:
The Persian War Novices Hurdle at Chepstow is now:
The ‘Ballymore Properties Novices Hurdle’.

I listened to it too Venusian.
Was an interesting listen, and a refreshing change to hear FiveLive reporting on racing without an ultra-negative spin for a change. They usually try to make out that racing is a seething pit of filth, with every jockey as bent as a nine bob note, and every gambler the type that would beat up their grandmother and rob her purse, and raid their child’s piggy bank in order to get a bet on in the ‘getting out stakes’.
I believe it’s on their ‘listen again’ section for those that missed it.
Anyway, back at the ranch…
Purple Moon ran a great trial overnight for the Melbourne Cup imo. A poor ride ended up with him being blocked in his run three times in the straight, yet he still stayed on strongly when clear of trouble (over 1m4f) in the last furlong to finish a very creditable 6th. Had he got a clear run he would have finished in the frame, and with the extra 4f of the Melbourne Cup to bring the best out in him stamina-wise, I think he looks a cracking e/w bet there.
Scary scenes at the stalls just before the off, hope the horses involved are okay.
The way I see it Alan is that if an injured horse is being forced to run on legal painkilling drugs, that is sick as it is putting a horse at further risk of permanent/more serious injury.
Illegal painkilling drugs are illegal as they could cause secondary physiological injury on top of the injury they are being used to treat. That, imo, is twice as sick.
Greedy trainers (and owners) that think this is an acceptable practice should not be allowed to train/own horses ever again.
Does that answer your question?
Thanks for the link IMP. Very interesting.
If he has been forcing injured horses to run with illegal painkillers then he should be banned for life imo.
