Did anyone here tune in to this much-trailed programme this evening?
I found it an excellent broadcast, with plenty of interesting and informed contributions. As it was a business programme, the emphasis was mainly focused on racing as a business, rather than chat about purely sporting issues.
The interviewer (whose name I forget) was first class, with a good handle on the various topics that were discussed. I’d been worried it was going to be something like Cornelius Lysaght and Luke Harvey being interviewed by Peter Allen or Nicky Campbell.
Nice to have a proper discussion about racing on radio 5.
October 22, 2007 at 00:32 #120869I listened to it too Venusian.
Was an interesting listen, and a refreshing change to hear FiveLive reporting on racing without an ultra-negative spin for a change. They usually try to make out that racing is a seething pit of filth, with every jockey as bent as a nine bob note, and every gambler the type that would beat up their grandmother and rob her purse, and raid their child’s piggy bank in order to get a bet on in the ‘getting out stakes’.
I believe it’s on their ‘listen again’ section for those that missed it.

In fact, I would have great difficulty in imagining him ever saying anything anywhere near controversial.

The presenter was Jeff Randall and he knew his stuff (admitted to being a big racing man).
Didnt think much of that Betfred bloke complaining about net profits of 2%, which translated to £30m. Thats a fair enough margin in what is naturally a high turnover business
anyway podcast is here
