The joys and perils of Ante-Post betting GT!
Mustashry has been a bit weak in the market the last week or so – noticed he drifted to 6/1 with Bet365 which I thought a bit odd seeing he won the Lockinge pretty convincingly.
Royal Ascot
Just noticed that Visinari has been taken out of the Coventry at 48-hour decs, probably best to wait until the day of race markets now for RA.
LS – Laddies were allowing me a bet of 36 pence when I went online to place a bet last week. To be fair they did up it to 50 pence when I called up to complain
Highly frustrating when it’s over a year since I last used the account, for the very same reason.I’m no trader or massive profit maker (I wish!). I was told it’s a trading decision but it’s impossible to get past the first line of customer services to get any clarity on what is driving the decision.
What’s your value price for Dee Ex Bee now GT with the NR? Noticed he is 5/6 which is a bit short for me.
Superb insight to your thinking GT – Thank you.
What made you so keen (and subsequent large stake) on Maqsad yesterday GT?
She won in a canter eh!
Superb stuff today GT – class is permanent!
Have you seen some of the so called experienced jockeys that ride in these races?
Yes I have. Some are top class, every bit as good as professional riders. Some less so.
Have you done any research on how many rides these folks have had under rules or in point to points?
Just as horses have to qualify for races (Grand National a prime example) so should jockeys.
I’m no expert in jockeyship and good luck to VP with her ambitions but surely her lack of race riding experience makes her strong odds against to ride in the Foxhunters in 2016.
In fact I’d go as far to say that the relevant parties (BHA, Racehorse owners that may be considering her for the Foxhunters, trainers) should be telling her it’s a no go until she learns her trade at a lower, less competitive level.
I’d argue that point if it was VP or anyone else with similar ambitions and lack of experience.
Fantastic to see Sprinter Sacre back in the winners enclosure today. He is some machine when in that kind of form.
Just goes to show that some trainers can get them race fit at home when required – it does help when the raw materials are top quality.
I think the Ryanair is a cracker of a race. There are a few other races at the Festival that I’d remove before this one.
Indeed Nicholls and Cobden could be a partnership to follow this season if the market doesn’t cotton onto them. Today’s win could be a problem! Interesting comment from Nicholls that he noticed Harry a while ago and was happy to put him up in a competitive handicap like today’s.
Hi GT,
Your selections are on the ball but getting on with Betfair Sportsbook or SportingBet (and a fair few others) is well nigh impossible. How much was your margin impacted by bookmaker restrictions over the flat season – any idea?
SS is not getting any younger so imagine he takes a little bit longer to reach peak fitness. He was such a fluent mover in his prime that sticky ground wouldn’t be ideal.
Oh and Nicky’s record with chasers recently is horrific so yes he is getting the excuses in early.
I had login problems when the site transitioned to the “new” version. It was a bit frustrating when my login details wouldn’t allow me access to the forum so I looked in for the last 6 months or so. Perhaps a few others were in the same boat. It only takes a few to refrain from posting and traffic disappears from the site fairly rapidly.
It’s a decent forum with knowledgeable folks across all aspects of the sport.
Yes there is intelligent (and sometimes less intelligent) debate. One aspect I’ve never liked is those contributors that copy and paste another individual’s post and dissect it paragraph by paragraph (sometimes word by word). Say what you’ve got to say on a subject…then move on.
Cracking read Alan – love reading these tales.
My acccess to TRF up and running Joe!
JP seems to be one of the most loyal owners there could possibly be. Just look at some of the dross he owns, yet Berry and co still have their jobs and you don’t see any of his trainers getting the boot.
So to suggest AP who he clearly has a very strong relationship outside of the workplace was about to get the boot is the most stupid, ill thought out statement I’ve heard for many a year!Maybe Lydia can ask the "sacking" question when she gets her final interview with AP??!!!
