Hello Nathan you old goat…. hope your keeping well, I see that Matron still wandering the wards late at night. I still have nightmares about all the times that we spotted him with his hands shaking under his shawl…. I felt a little less tense when I knew it was the drink…

MrE

I started to read that thread Wurzel mentioned and got bored halfway through….
Young Primrose has started something once again, old Billy has a flare for poking the hornets nest….
From my point of view, Mo is correct, she (I think she is a “she”) and my sincere apologies if this particular Mo has grown a pair of “danglies”… but she is the epitome of a “mug punter”, and I mean no disrespect…. both sides of the fence can lose money one way or the other. The difference being that the “mug” knows they are gonna lose and just enjoys the journey with it’s ups and downs, they probably enjoy this game far more than the so called “serious bettors” do…. each have their place.
Without a doubt, “Mugs” have the edge on enjoyment…. the “non mugs” are the ones that suffer deeply for their passion… where a “mug” really doesn’t give a rat’s arse about winning or losing, the “non mug” is convinced that they are a cut above the normal punter…. they see themselves as the “truth and the light”.
Now you have to take a sidestep into reality, who enjoys this “game” more….. and really guys, you have to enjoy the game or walk away from it, if you don’t like it or your continually losing, then getting on your bike is the only thing…. this is a decision that “mugs” don’t have to make…. Mo is very happy with what he/she is doing… I would even go so far as to say that Mo is enjoying the experience more than anybody else on the forum.
I tend to think that we are all blinkered in this aspect….. there is always room for “mugs” just as much as there is room for the more “professional” of us…. some enjoy the moment, the rush of adrenaline of short term success, but others work hard at the P/L angle to try and ensure that they come our on the “right” side…to this day, I am unsure of who is correct. I am of the opinion that making a profit is the be all and end all and I will work 10hrs a day to that end, but Mo can enjoy the fruits of her/his labour with absolutely no concern to her bank…. just like going out for a burger…. I think I envy her/him…..

MrE
Yes, you are correct Grasshopper, it would be illegal to have EVERY selection winning, the bookies would be bound to find a way of criminalising you for stealing their money….
I am trying to get myself motivated again after all the problems of late and I’m quite keen to follow these because they appear to have more in their favour than my Aussie effort did, it’s just that I like to test ’em before bunging my pension on…. trouble is that sometimes I’m too careful for my own good and I end up missing the “purple patch”….MrE
She’s a very naughty girl for picking the same as you….. sorry young whippersnapper…..
MrE
Good afternoon to you young Cochise….. I’m not sure, but I think my daughter has your selection down for a LAY…. I’ll check up this afternoon…. should be a laff…..

MrE
Hello again you with the feathers in your hair, I got a bit carried away in the previous posts, something extra they put in that firewater I think….
I was playing roulette with my daughter and she was winning and enjoying the simplicity of it…. what could be any easier than choosing either Red or Black. She left me that day and I knew that she had something on her mind and wasn’t telling me about it….. that was just under 12 months ago. I’ve seen her every week since and she still said nothing, but I could tell that she had something on her mind but just wasn’t ready to tell me at that time.
She came clean about a month ago…. it wasn’t some roulette system that she’s been working on all those months as I thought it was, it was that the simple Red/Black at roulette had nudged her brain in a slightly different direction…… the horses…… and that’s what she has been at for about the last 10 months, working on this idea and the Aussie stuff. The Aussie bets were going nowhere, win some, lose some, at the end of 3 months, the bookies balance was the same, so it was dropped and this was still going along steadily. She shared it with me as soon as she was happy with it…. too much for me to wrap my head around, I had my own things to do…. so she gave me the selections every day. In one month she has given me 29 selections and 25 of those have been winning bets giving me a 25pt profit.
I asked her what it had to do with roulette, there is absolutely no comparison, she said that there was a good comparison….. she just transferred that idea over to the horses, picked a short priced favourite and then decided, Red or Black (Win or Lose). In essence, she picks one selection a day and asks herself “Do I back it or do I lay it”, just an easy Red / Black decision.
I am surprised, with a few exceptions they are all even money or thereabouts…. so I am quite looking forward to this next month to see if she can maintain this, her records state that it’s been profitable since she started her spreadsheets, but I never trust anything that has already happened because past results mean nothing, so I have this first month (that was tested “live”),under my belt and I wanna see what the next 30 days brings…..
This could be an interesting prospect, just ONE bet a day, either BACK or LAY…. that’s a nice bit of poetry….

As I was saying, I’m feeling a tad better now my little Pumpkin and I will start posting again shortly, I just have to get back into the swing of things, but other episodes in my life have been distracting me…. like having my boiler go tits up and my having to buy a new one. Got a really good deal from British Gas and the engineer that fitted it was a great guy, cheeky bugger also asked me to make him a cuppa tea…. cheeky sod….
All went reasonably well and he was due an early finish, which he was looking forward to cuz it was a Friday…. but of course, as with our horses, things don’t always go as planned. The boiler and all the bells and whistles were installed, but the gas pressure was crap (that’s a euphemism for pretty poor), so he had to rip up my carpet and my floorboards to replace the old pipe with some new stuff that had a bigger bore…. yeah, I know, it’s already been said that there aint no bigger bore than me…. but it’s MY story, so sod off…. anyway my favourite pumpkin, my boiler is working, British Gas are the new God and I’m warm again….

MrE
Good evening Big Chief Shitting Bull….. I have to say that all is well in my wigwam after the good spell that your having and that my wampum is full to overflowing and I really don’t know what I’m smoking in this pipe of peace that I retrieved from the white face with long hair….. I think he said his name was Kit Carson….
So I must pay credit where credit is due and I think that I might owe you a few beaver pelts and some of that firewater…. mmmm…. I have this strange feeling that I might have been indulging in my own firewater, either that or this strange smelling tobacco is going to my head, I can’t stop giggling and I just have this urging for munchies…..

MrE
Good evening Snowdrop, I have to say that your doing exceedingly well, just like one of Mr Kiplings Almond Slices…. your all licky and covered in marzipan…. another slightly loopy Battenburg.
You are really warming up to this tipping lark…. well done mate… hoping to rejoin the party shortly….

MrE
Coooeeee!!! my little Tinker Bell, I hope your looking after Peter Pan (Matron) and keeping him away from the evil Captain Hook (Nathan, of course)…..
The weather (and racing) has been rather dire of late and I can’t say that I’m in a hurry to get back to it…. what a load of old rubbish it is, both sides of the world….. gotta keep the old grey matter active during this spell of the doldrums and I’m hoping I have found a couple that might be worthy of your 50p pocket money, take a look at….3.25 Carl… Jobsonfire…. WON
4.45 Ling… Yukon Mission…. RUBBISHonly 50p mind, just something to play with on a pretty poor day…..

MrE
Well done my little Possum, you’re on fire….. keep ’em coming….
I’ll join you again shortly, but I need to find a way to exercise my fingers to keep them supple…. I tried doing what Nathan say’s but it makes my arms ache…..

MrE
Good afternoon Purwell, in the main, I can only agree with Bill…. and when he says that Aussie racing is different from ours, he is so right, but I find that an advantage.
The question of losing runs is a very difficult one to answer because the length of those runs are dependent upon the market position that your betting in. You would expect long losing runs if your aiming around the 7/1 mark, but they should be considerably shorter if your betting at the sharp end.
I run the risk of trying to teach my grandmother to suck eggs because your probably well aware of what I’m gonna say, if so, my apologies…. I would be more concerned with the HBD than I would with losing runs, but that doesn’t really answer your question about losing runs and Aussie racing and I can only tell you what I am doing.
I need tomorrows results to come in to complete a full 3 months “proofing” with no further “tweaks” and so far I find it VERY profitable…. am I nervous???… yes…. because each months profits have gradually reduced. The monthly profit has gone from +32pts…. down to +28pts and assuming my 3 selections lose tomorrow morning, the third month will be +18pts…. the drop off could be because of the fires or more recently the rain because I don’t bet in heavy going and there’s been a hell of a lot of that recently…. so, even after 3 months I am still in the dark.
Losing runs have been regular and I have had one losing run of 12 and one of 10, but that was not the painful bit, the painful area was when I had a losing run of 7 followed by two losing runs of 8… these losing runs were punctuated with a winner @ 2.50 and 2.00, that gave me a drawdown of just in excess of 20pts and was far more damaging than the LLR of 12…… I tend to think that we punters get to tied up in the longest losing sequences, it only tells half the story…
WoW!!!…. I got carried away, this was a lot longer than intended….. sorry if you found it boring….

MrE
Hello again Bouncing Billy…. I would have thought that you would have mastered that self doubt my old mate…. OK, I realise that you have to be sensible about betting, but at the same time, you have to learn to bet without fear.
You cannot just be nervous every day on whether to bet or not, if you have a selection, then it has to be bet…. so if you become nervous about losing, I would suggest that your staking is possibly outside of your comfort zone and must consider lowering stakes.
But if, like me, you are concerned about what people think about you and your concerned about anybody that is following your tips, then that’s another kettle of fish…. and my choice then is to stop posting selections altogether. We have to feel comfortable in whatever path we take, if we are not comfortable, walk down another path….
