going off at a tangent again [sorry]heard the other day that our local independant record store, Reveal Records is to close down. If ever I want to find something obscure or just go in and say I’d heard a song on the radio at 11.30 Tuesday night and have they got any idea who it was by and can you get it for me [yes they would know and yes they could get it] – all of these little shops are closing down and I think it’s awful. What is Nick Hornby going to write books about in the future…
yes, I read that this morning as well; doesn’t seem right that Haydock should retain it’s nh status after what it’s done to it’s fences.
they are therefore the perfect pet for anyone trying to lose weight…..
that sounds like my kind of ante post bet, having backed Diamond Tycoon at 100/1 – am I right in thinking that Brian Meehans horses tend to get a bit overlooked [eg Breeders Cup etc]…
not sure if I’m looking forward to it or dreading it! the course terrifies me anyway and both Kauto Star and Exotic Dancer put in the occasional dreadful jump [although Exotic Dancer doesn’t save his till the last fence]. Think I’d go with Monets Garden, likes the track, seems to be more of a 2.5 mile horse and I think someone told me that Nicky Richards horses wern’t 100% last year….was great to see a grey horse trained by Nicky Richards win at Aintree last season, and maybe One Man will be looking down on him again this time. Anyway, come back safe, all of them! heck, I’m so nervous!
wasn’t there a bit of controversy about Rathgar Beaus beating of Moscow Flyer? I was there that day, and the result of the photo finish took forever; I thought I heard afterwards that they wern’t sure that it was the correct result…pity it wasn’t a dead heat…..
I’ve just found my tape of Dublin Flyer at Warwick where he cleared a massive 33 ft at one fence – also an old Grand National trial at Haydock with Earth Summit, Into the Red, Him of Praise, Dom Samurai etc etc…
good to hear you’ve cheered up! I usually listen to Steve Lamacq on Monday nights but radio playing up a bit, so am watching video tapes of v. old races instead…
I have more than made amends to aformentioned charity over the years . However I carry my sin around with me like Marley’s Ghost and am therefore doomed for eternity, and now I realise that all of Derby County’s problems are the result of that heinous act as well. I am well and truly damned….and, as for you, you’d better get straight back on that diet! [have I made you feel better though?] mo
I did something far far worse and that was at a charity shop – so if you’re doomed dread to think what will happen to me – maybe we’re ok if we confess….[however, 20+ years on I’m still feeling guilty about it].
also Perry Barr do a greyhound rehoming scheme – @ http://www.rgtperrybar.co.uk – I’ve never had a greyhound but have had whippets for the past 14 years. All sighthounds should be muzzled when running free unless the owner is absolutely sure that the dog is to be trusted – it’s their instinct to chase. My last whippet was brought up with cats, other dogs and children and was the gentlest dog I’ve ever known, not a nasty bone in her body….read 2 books years ago, My Small Country Living by Jeanine McMullen and Rebecca the Lurcher by Andrew Simpson; that’s what made me want to own this kind of dog, and have never regretted it. mo
Someone stated on another board that anyone could be champion trainer given the quality of the horses that he has to work with – so I looked him up on Wikipedia and the man is a genius ….you do wonder what he would have achieved had he continued with nh. He was always prepared to return Istabraq to John Durkin if and when he recovered from his illness. I’ve found the sheer weight of numbers of the Ballydoyle horses a bit irritating this season, but I can take nothing away from O’Brien as a trainer.
Have just heard that Alastair Down is going to be one of the speakers at the Midland Racing Club NH preview along with Ian Williams and a couple of professional/non professional punters. This is on 13th November at Stirchley Utd. Working Mens Club in Birmingham, details are on the Crottly website [www.crottly.co.uk – sorry, don’t know how to cut and paste things]. Last years preview was excellent – Chris Pitt is usually chairperson and it’s a highly entertaining/informative event. mo
I love the way that the sunflowers turn throughout the day to face the sun – when we were travelling into Rome on the train they would be facing one way, and on the way back they’d changed direction – millions of them. I’ve got a bottle of hair gel that my son bought in a little shop in Orvieto – he keeps throwing it away and I keep rescuing it from the bin. Remember seeing someone on a boat being pulled in for speeding by a police boat in the Venice lagoon – how cool is that!
arn’t olive trees supposed to be the souls of dead people?
