Air force blue for me.Won nicely on debut and second and third both bolted up next time. Also will have good ground and being by war front will improve loads on his debut which was run on softish going.
As I said hawk wing had injury problems during his career and was also around the same time as rock of Gibraltar and many judges thought he should have beaten that horse in the guineas. His Derby run was still a brilliant effort considering the 12length gap to the third. The lockinge run was truly sensational and had domedriver miles behind who went onto success at the breeders cup. A vintage time for top.top class horses.

They didn’t know if he would stay so he didn’t know what was there till he went for it. Still the best miler I’ve seen, including Frankel, and had he been kept to 8 to 10f God knows what rating time form would have given him.

Gleneagles only entered briefly into the Derby reckoning due to all the ballydoyle candidates for the derby being not up to winning it. Sad that breeding is going that way but maybe 12f will come back into fashion if we get a Derby winner who goes onto become a superstar. I hope that’s what happens.
yep i think he has a very good chance.Ballydoyle seem to have him mapped out to go for the gold cup and he has been lightly raced so to be ready for next week.Forgotten rules is the worthy fav but with the warm weather there must be a doubt he will run therefore your ante post price is looking very well advised.Could be a very open gold cup and last years running to me was the best race of the meeting.Absolute classic horse race.

Apparently coolmore have got the breeding rights to APharoah so hopefully we might see some of his offspring here in two to three years time.
Air force Blue must come into calculations especially if it’s good or better ground. Beat rock away valley on debut who then bolted up next run. Argentero also looks a solid horse and should be on the premises if he turns up next week. There is a lot of decent irish 2yos around and obviously king of rooks must be considered.
I presume hans holbien and GCanaletto are going to the Irish Derby presumably ridden by ryan Moore and Joseph obrien.should be very interesting to see the tactics the ballydoyle jockeys use. Highland reel could also be there which could complicate matters further.
There is a huge dearth of older horses at 10 and 12f. It’s mostly due to horses being rushed off to stud. Indeed coolmore have Australia, magician, war command, ruler of the world,Adelaide and Verrazano all gone to stud. Also the likes of eagle top and western hymn haven’t come forward means there is huge gaps there and means the likes of golden horn, new bay and jack Hobbs could well clean up when the 3yos start taking on the older horses. Free eagle could well be the one to take them on but is so fragile you can’t be sure where he will run. The grey gatsby doesn’t to be as good as last year on the evidence of the last race. So low looks to me the best of the older horses and its a good job the like of able friend is heading to royal ascot or we could well have had some group ones very short of any depth in them.

Was a beast of s horse and just loved watching him. The early 80s saw loads of top horses and chief singer was right up there. As I said El gran señor is the best miler in my lifetime and then of course chief singer was a brilliant winner of the July cup. I believe a panel of so called experts made El gran señor the second best miler of all time behind the brigadier with Frankel 3rd which backs up what vincent Obrien said at the time. Brilliant times to be a racing nut like me.

He probably did just about stay 12f but showed his true worth in that amazing lockinge. He had loads of problems with injury iirc and was one of my very fav horses.
It will be hard to make a book for the irish oaks after the oaks. Depends who goes to the ribblesdale at ascot but diamonds and rubies I would think,at the moment, looks the likeliest winner.
I think it is still a great event but unfortunately we don’t find out till much later if it’s been a great race. Australia was joint top European rated horse last year so it was a good one.where will golden horn end up in the ratings. We will see at the end of the season.if he met gleneagles in the champion stakes it would be close but I think gleneagles would be just too quick for him.all about opinions of course.

Had he been kept to a mile and then 10f in his 4yr old career would be talking an all time great. His 1984 guineas win from chief singer(wide margin winner of the St James palace next start and brilliant winner of the July cup) and in 4th was a future arc winner. I think he was just outstayed by secreto which ,like Matt chapman,I just couldn’t believe.
Jim McGrath mistakenly said that fastnet Rock wasn’t on the coolmore raster anymore. He is very much the top stallion for coolmore In Australia. With stravagante(by rip van winkle) and pethers moon(by Dylan Thomas) it was a good couple of days for coolmore stallions if not for aobs stable. Could be aobs three year olds are late developers(like Adelaide) and ballydoyle may be much stronger late August/ early September.
Best two horses finished one and two. Giovanni caneletto looked not ready for this race as we expected and Kilimanjaro looked a queens vase horse to me. The rest were pretty poor including Elm Park who didn’t seem happy at any stage. How good the winner is only time will tell but the proximity of storm the stars to the winner means I doubt he is one of the better Derby winners. Time of course may change that view.
