    Great stuff gc!

Switzerland was the standout for me from semifinal 1. I don’t favour ballads usually, but it’s a nice song and the simple staging provided a welcome change of pace from the onslaught of beats and strobe lights. I’d be hopeful it will do well on Saturday.

Agree with moehat about liking Albania too.

Agree Gladiateur. I thought Harvey was a bit rude as, after demanding his drink, he didn’t speak to the man further, yet spoke to people at the next table. He did seem to be genuinely struggling though to be fair.

Good luck with the wings if you give them a try.

The man whose pint Harvey stole to tame the inferno in his mouth looked highly unimpressed!

Very well done to all the prizewinners; some amazing scores again this year.

Looking further down the list, I’d second VtC’s comments that TakeYourTime had a fantastic set of less conventional choices, and I enjoyed watching their considerable success. There is just so much strength in depth in this competition.

Thanks once again for all your efforts VtC.

One thing that was very pleasing to see today was State Man winning after his Cheltenham fall. I have long thought he has been underappreciated, and doubt that this will change, but he is a wonderful racehorse.

It’s a shame that his form had a wobble at the start of this season as it gives people another reason to knock him, but he is one of the best hurdlers we have seen this century.

And none of this is being said to knock
Constitution Hill, who I still think was the better of the two at his peak. The fact he was able to beat State Man so easily shows just how good he was.

“I am not so sure about that. I recall quite a few people voicing their dissatisfaction at Best Mate not running very often and comparing him unfavourably to previous Gold Cup winners.”

I am one of the people likely to have voiced such comments. But I think the criticism Henderson is receiving is on another level entirely.

It’s interesting to see Henrietta Knight’s name brought up. Her campaigning of Best Mate was every bit as cautious as Henderson’s campaigning of Constitution Hill, but she doesn’t get the same criticism as luck was on her side and she won three Gold Cups.

I wish Henderson had made more hay while the sun was shining with Constitution Hill, but we can’t turn back time now. I don’t believe the horse has been the same since his health issue, but this in no way diminishes his best performances.

A few names that have caught my eye on the non-racing agreements list recently:

    Tornado Flyer
    Bennys King
    Solo
    Enrilo
    Fidelio Vallis
    Dr Kananga
    Wakool
    Voix Du Reve

Wishing all the recent retirees long and happy retirements.

It’s amazing to think that El Fabiolo started at odds of 2/9 in the 2024 Champion Chase. He looked like he was going to carry all before him in the division, but his jumping frailties caused their first big problems that day, and it has been a sorry tale indeed since then.

Looking back to when he was winning regularly as a novice, these performances were littered with plenty of mistakes too, and I hope for the horse’s sake they call time on his chasing career.

I’d be interested to see Constitution Hill given a spin on the Flat. I don’t think his being 8 years old is that offputting – it wasn’t an issue for Al Aasy in the Gordon Richards recently.

The delay in concluding this matter does seem pretty shoddy on first impression, but I don’t have any sympathy for him. He has clearly learned nothing from his previous offence, which was quite serious.

I fear that with his attitude he is a lost cause, and that sending him on an anger management course at this late stage will be a pointless exercise.

The “Whitbread” has been blessed with very few fatalities over the years; I can’t even remember any others. A real shame to see this happen on an otherwise great day of racing as ERL says.

    RIP Dancing City

As a number of posters have commented, the huge prizemoney for the Grand National has too much bearing on the trainers’ championship. I’d like to see some of this distributed elsewhere. Not to something like the Gold Cup though, but to races in the autumn in the hope of making the season more competitive throughout.

It’s a bit odd that this online slots piece has appeared under the heading of “Racing Articles”, but I get the impression little attention is paid to any of this content.

Am pleased to see that the dodgy “not on GamStop” wording is absent from this latest article.

    That’s disappointing!

Simon Holt’s suggestion to call the Gundry-trained gelding the “other Lossiemouth” when competing in his home country seems a bit insulting. I prefer using the nationality suffixes, or the colours of the horses could perhaps be used in this instance.

I like Richard Hoiles, but it was good to hear Simon Holt on terrestrial TV again. I’ve always felt he was an undeserving casualty of ITV wanting to give their programme a distinct identity from its predecessor.

Moehat, there are plenty of other people who feel like you, and there is no need to justify yourself or feel stupid. You are a great poster whose contributions I know many appreciate on here, and long may that continue.

Griff is well capable of speaking for himself, but I suspect it was not his intent to cause upset. Possibly you have been on the receiving end of some of his long-running frustrations about these memorial threads, even though you have not actually posted on them often.

Where the content of memorial threads seems to be becoming an increasingly contentious topic, I guess it’s ultimately up to the admins to consider if it’s worth having any guidelines on what is acceptable to post, though that is no easy task when views are clearly quite varied.
