Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe
Coral: 9-2 Soldier Of Fortune, 6 New Approach, 7 Getaway, Zarkava, 10 TartanBearer, 12 Vision D’Etat, 14 Famous Name, Peeping Fawn, 16 Casual Conquest, Curlin, Duke Of Marmalade, 20 Sun Classique, Youmzain, 25 barAbove is the latest betting for the Arc from Corals,IMO 16-1 for Curlin is the value of the year even though he is unproven on turf and i will be taking some of that. The positives i look at are,He is clearly the best horse in training in the world today albeit on dirt,He can travel and adapt to the long distance travel and demands of overseas racing,That point is very important in coming over for a race as tough as the Arc,Just look at Lava man who hated travelling when he flew over for the DBC meeting this year,A class horse in his own right but not able to adapt,You need an adaptable horse which Curlin is.
If the connections run Curlin in a turf race and he wins his price will plummet,The Arc will be all over i say especially if his turf race is something along the lines of the Grade 1 Man O War stakes.I read he will be shipped to France and a run in the Prix Foy will be his prep race,What price for the Arc if he wins that??
I am also betting the Curlin doubters will be changing their tune if he does win his US turf and a French prep race. The horse is simply pure class, speed and muscle,A typical strong galloping american dirt horse who may just teach the turf horses a thing or too when asked in october.Whatever happens,Seeing Curlin in the Arc will be mouthwatering and heres hoping more American horse come over.
The Cambridge rd gallops and the Heath and Racecourse side,Warren hill and Limekilns are all top places.A walk along Bury rd and Fordham rd in the early morning is a beautiful walk as is Hamilton rd and Snailwell rd where the British racing school is(where i did a course in 1990) and the Godolphin yard too.
Visit the British horseracing museum in the high st and the National stud. The shopping in the town is pretty good as is a drink in the Rutland Arms.
The others had better start running now if Curlin does fly over for the Arc!!! Only one horse in it in my opinion if he does run.He will also be the most in demand sire too when he is sent to stud and rightly so..A monster of a horse!!
Detroit city and Al eile are 2 that spring to mind.
Yeats will be the banker of the meeting, classy and scary as hell when he gets going!
Yeah i see you point,In the jump racing it is more harmful to run the no hopers as you then get the horses killed and Animal aid morons calling for the sport to be banned but i do like the big outsiders in races aslong as it doesn,t extend to a large percentage in the field.
I do agree though re Maidstone in the derby,a poor hurdler had no place being there.Nice to see the trainer blaming Kent Desormeaux BB,s jockey for the defeat,a bit harsh i feel. The jockey is one of the greats in American racing.
That horse did,nt look an easy ride at all saturday,he was pulling like a freight train, did,nt seem to settle andi think it was the cracked heel that was his downfall plus th fact the Belmont stakes is a tough tough race to win.
Curlin will pulverise him though when/if the meet, i doubt the Suffolk downs matchrace ill take place now.Secretariat and Affirmed are simply frightning examples of the true triple crown horses!! There like may never be seen again.Street sense did,nt win the triple crown and i think he was a much better horse than Big Brown. The one horse i,d have put money on to do the triple crown was Barbaro RIP.
The only thing i would add to banning low rated and no hoper horses is this…i backed a horse in the 1989 derby when i was 15 years old(my first ever bet..got someone to back it for me
i had 50 pence e/w on it and it came second at 500-1 !!!!!!! the horse was called TERIMON trained by Clive brittain. The horse was given no chance at all but ran 2nd and then went on to win the Earl of sefton stakes so so much of a no hoper huh? The point is some of these no hopers actually run well and deserve a chance,Remember Nortons coin 100-1 winner in the gold cup at Cheltenham.
Fair enough Maidstone Mixture was absolutely out of his depth but imagine banning the no hopers in the Grand national, there would be uproar!! Aslong as the no hopers don,t get in the way and ruin a race which is difficult to predict but i say keep 1 or 2 in for the "little fella"opportunity.
ps i,m Ryan and i,m new here so good to meet you all, hope to have a good chat etc
