Isn’t this smack middle of Paris?
about 2.5 miles from Port Malliot
June 12, 2008 at 23:54 #168133Im going this year aswell. Very much looking forward to it as ive never been before. Got a hotel booked in Paris already and will go over on the euro star a couple of days before. Just got to keep an eye out for tickets for the arc now.
June 13, 2008 at 03:53 #168141Just if I ever go trigger happy and decide to go in the future, where do you get the tickets from lads and how do they get delivered?
June 13, 2008 at 08:20 #168151You don’t need tickets lads, you pay on the day, about €7 or €8 to get in

It’s in the Bois de Boulogne, which is the big park on the west of Paris (though the racecourse is technically in Paris).
If you’ve got Google Earth on your PC, just type in "Bois de Boulogne", that’ll take you to an overhead view of the Bois.
You’ll see 2 racecourses near the south end. The one to the west is Longchamp (marked). The one to the east (not marked) is Auteuil.
(and, for tennis fans, just south of Auteuil with a purple dot on it is Roland Garros)
Steve
PS If anyone is thinking of taking the tramway to Longchamp, you get off at Suresnes (marked on google earth), walk down the hill, cross the bridge, pass that little pond and you’re there.
PPS If you’re on google earth and looking at Longchamp, scroll to the west and you’ll also see Saint Cloud.
Is there anywhere in the world with 3 top class racecourses so close together?
June 15, 2008 at 01:32 #168390Is it me, or does the Arc not have much appeal this year due to the lack of ‘very’ high profile runners?
June 15, 2008 at 04:39 #168392Seriously?
I think you’re undervaluing the entire crop of runners this year.
And it’s even more ridiculous when we have not even begun Royal Ascot yet.
June 15, 2008 at 05:12 #168394You bet he is Zarkava is one of the best fillies seen for years IMO.
New Approach now he is running over the right trip would eat SOF alive IMO.
The bookies making SOF fav is typical of them. How long will it be before punters realise that the bookies are p*ss takers?. The horse came out worst of the 5 concerned in the finish of last years Arc. Even taking improgvement into consideration I coudn’t bet him in my dreams to win the Arc. The 2nd in the Arc was right up his backside in the Coronation and I am sure that will be reversed come Arc day. That looks blatantly obvious to me.
If Zarkava passes her test when tried over a longer trip she will without doubt start fav for the Arc.
She is bound to improve more than New Approach who is also a class act and may just have enough toe to beat him.
I think 7/1 about each Z and NA is fantastic value considering SOF is a totally false fav. Would need more than his win in the Coranation to convince me he is an Arc horse.

What about this? Is he not a ‘very’ high profile runner?

So with a serious goal of running in France’s Arc de Triomphe — Europe’s most prestigious race, which is run on turf — he and Jackson said Curlin would also have a prep at Longchamp. But before they return overseas, Asmussen wants to see how Curlin handles a grass surface.
In that regard, Asmussen said he’d like to see Curlin’s next start be in a month over a large turf course such as Belmont (which has the $500,000, Grade I Man o’ War), Arlington (the $200,000, Grade III Arlington Handicap) or Toronto’s Woodbine (which doesn’t have a race but has slots revenue to make one happen).
June 15, 2008 at 13:08 #168429The Grade III Arlington Handicap? And he shall be allotted topweight of 216lbs or similar?

I don’t know. But I would be certainly glad if Curlin comes to the Arc.
At the same time, I would have been more pleased if his connections had referred to the Arc AFTER any significant turf G1win in America; even in Japan, it seems to me that owners or trainers tend to refer to the race as if it were a matter of course after their colts have won a G1 on turf. Well… ‘see the world before saying something significant’ is what I feel at their comments.
June 15, 2008 at 17:24 #168456I’d like him to go to the Man o’ War and then the Arlington Million but i think they’ll opt for the Arlington H. and then head for the Foy.
Others may be clearer on this but his options may be very limited in the US if they don’t want to run him on Polytrack either say in the Pacific Classic or obviously in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
He may well be unable to run in New York which would rule out the Man o’ War , any races at Saratoga and the Jockey Club Gold Cup as his connections ran into trouble last week when yesterdays 2nd Einstein was prevented from running in the Manhattan Handicap on Belmont day because New York licensing rules prevented the horse from being entered in the race.
Shirley Cunningham one of the primary owners of Einstein and the original joint owner of Curlin and his partner William Gallion who still own 20% of the horse are in jail in Kentucky awaiting trial.
Cunningham unfortunately let his NYRA owners licence expire about 8 months ago and I guess in Kentucky you can lease a horse to someone (in this case his wife) and they can get a licence but in New York the rules are that both lessor and lessee must be licenced in order for any horse to run in the state.
June 15, 2008 at 19:31 #168464European racing needs to take a firm stand on horses being bulked out with steroids.Mainly coming from the US.
June 15, 2008 at 22:03 #168478The others had better start running now if Curlin does fly over for the Arc!!! Only one horse in it in my opinion if he does run.He will also be the most in demand sire too when he is sent to stud and rightly so..A monster of a horse!!
June 16, 2008 at 16:58 #168579According to what I read Coolmore refused to get into Big Brown. Curling better have a cleaner medical record i.e. no steroids before people would risk using him for breeding purposes..
