When the weights came out I opined that Phil Smith had skewed the weights in favour of Synchronised to the exception of all else. Since then he has won the Gold Cup so what can beat him today?
Bad luck; you do not win the National without having a degree of good fortune. Fitness; is 4 weeks a long enough gap to recover as he seems to need plenty of time between his races. Distance; yes he has won a Midlands National but this is further cf; Durham Edition.quote]
It wont be lack of stamina Eclipse but carrying the 11-10 that could beat him aswell as his jumping style,he will be coming down steep and hard at these fences.I believe ‘IF’ he stands up he wins! ‘If’ ‘Junior’ jumps the last alongside ‘Synchronised’ it will be a battle royal and if ‘Sunnyhill Boy’ is anywhere near them his weight pull makes him a big danger! My heart is with
Calgary Bay
at 50/1 its not his jumping that concerns me just whether this Rolls Royce has the fuel to get home,I do believe he will run a massive race! ‘Mon Mome’ at 110’s on the machine is way too big for the most experienced horse in the race!
Or has he just failed to train on……………………..No reports of any wonder workouts this term and he has worked several times this year!
Queue Joni……I like David Williams of Ladbrokes,he’s quick when he needs to be and he could sell sand to the Arabs,he’s got everything you would expect from a Bookmakers PR man.The word is
Ladbrokes will go 12/1 about Synchronised
tomorrow morning!……….David, its a brave move! It wont last 10 minutes if you do,we’ll see if Ladbrokes can stand with their backs to the wall at that price for an hour or whether its just another one of Davids fine publicity stunts!………..Paying 5 places is what Joe Public really wants,I hope ‘Synchronised’ doesn’t finish 5th as David will have shot himself in the foot……..again!
Good to see a racing certainty win like that as for Nicky Henderson suggesting he’ll jump a fence next year!!!! My A*se he will,he’s a hurdler through and through a Champion hurdle winner Mark my words! 16/1 now is still too big Get On!

Champion Hurdler my backside……..wanna see a champ of the future watch the Fingal……….big double running on and spending the money already

Never rated this
Fingal Bay
Hurdy as I’ve stated on here before and those who think he’s a chaser think ‘Peddlars Cross’ as he’s not one either! He lacks any scope at all and will be one of those horses who falls off the radar rapidly.
Now thisDarlan
is a bit special,he doesn’t have the speed over his hurdles like ‘Binocular’ but he gets over them in his own way without losing ground. What he has got though is an engine and he’ll prove what I say about the ‘Supreme’ form every year………Its a bit special! 12/1 now for the Champion get that ‘Backside’ of yours down to your nearest Bookie and take it!

Come on
Little Josh
,different class to these handicappers,if he jumps he wins!
Well what surprised me was Dickies Tactics there on
Wishful Thinking
,I was expecting a trail blazing front running performance, instead he’s anchored him at the rear, still ran the best he’s done all season so I cant complain!Winners a Rolls Royce! Where’s ‘Somersby’ when you need him!
Anyone who reads my rubbish will be saying now he’s on ‘Albertas Run’ in the next! Well he owes me nothing and I’ll cheer him home if my bet looks beat but I’m going for the aptly named
Wishful Thinking
,this fellow destroyed ‘Medermit’ around here a year ago,not many horses do that,if this fellow is back to his best he’ll surprise a few folk today 12/1 is too big!

I cant go past
Silviniaco Conti
in this one and again believe he’s a bit special,we haven’t seen the real horse yet, today hopefully we will!
I sound a bit like TAPK today but we saw the Real deal there always travelling and traded at 7/4 for bloody ages incredibly, who was it that said it was like picking money off the floor! Gold Cup horse for sure!

Nickys come to his senses in no time at all! I’m glad he saw what I saw and that this fellow is not a Chaser,he’ll stay over hurdles for another year at least as he’s very flat at his obstacles, plenty speed though!

I want to see
Darlan
prove today why I rate him as Champion hurdle material for next year.I have backed him every week at 25/1 since Cheltenham and am pretty confident this fellow has improvement to come. All the 2/1 has gone which is a confidence boost too!

GDC,guess who never had a penny on
Chilly Filly
? Too busy at Nottingham, the ground was on the slow side of good but defineately not soft. The highlight of the day incidentally called ‘The Further Flight’ race day was the presence of Barry Hills,he looked in good shape apart from his now constant croaky voice but he still managed to speak to all and sign autographs and the odd picture,I told him I had always watched how he placed his horses from
Cormorant Wood
,
Far Lane
,
Pablo
and most recently this
Captain Bertie
,he agreed he would have won the Lincoln had he got in,I said Royal Hunt Cup Barry and quick as a flash he replied ‘not even I can get him in that’! Class man,Class dresser a proper legend of the Turf and to this day a fearless gambler,my sort of guy!

Hayleys Shergar Cup silks and Panties are still hangin from my ceiling with one of her whips by my bed!
The Gold Cup winner
Synchronised
was the key horse as to whether the ‘latest’ whip rules were a success or not at Cheltenham.31/4m on Good ground was always going to catch the once regarded 4m plodder out and AP was on a hiding to nothing.I counted a mere 7 strikes from what was not the greatest of footage to assess just how many made contact as most were down the shoulder as taps to keep him focused,Ap was pretty animated all the way round with a lot of urging/cajoling with feet and strong hands,’Synchronised’ responded to every ounce of AP’s urgings and powered home,he had a hard race but defineately won within the guidelines. The Grand National is a different ball game again.’Synchronised’ is burdeoned with 11-10 a helluva weight,he’s been there before in both Midlands and Welsh Nationals but not over fences like these,my main concern is he ‘skews’ a lot of his fences and lands on the shoulder,he wont get away with that at Aintree,if he can overcome all thats in front of him and its a bloody lot, irrelevant of ‘how well handicapped’ he is on paper, its a mammoth task and one that will test even his resolve,if he does win he will be a very tired horse ahorse who will have a lot of Joe Publics money on so the merchants of doom will have a field day if anything untoward comes of him.I hope AP gives him the respect he deserves and doesn’t thrash him home. He’s The Gold Cup Winner and owes none of us fans of his anything.Anywhere other than Aintree he would have been a good thing! The good thing is he returns home safely!
Eclipse
Tax Free
was the pick of the paddock and duly won best turned out, there’s still a decent prize in this fellow and Kieran was suitably impressed,he’ll ride him again!

Thats about the best I got Nath,a helluva lot had exposure problems due to just how dark
Dandino
is and the bloody great white spot on his head, the camera didn’t know what to expose for! Only horse I’ve ever really struggled with! By the way he doesn’t get a yard over 11/2m! (Coronation Cup)!
