A book? A racecard? An autograph? A picture?

Do you have a racing-related object that you treasure?

That’s a tough one. Have to say I have 3.

    1. A photo of my first winner as an owner. Kittochside Lad at Hexham 12 years ago.
    2. A photo of me presenting a prize so Fos Llas last year when I completed getting round all 60 courses.
    3. My members badge from the void National in 93.

A photograph taken on my 18th birthday at Malton of the great Night Nurse signed by Tim Easterby (then the trainers son). Phew, I am getting old !
Lovely horse, an old trooper. R.I.P.

Mines is a memory and I can safely say I have ridden a Champion Hurdle winner twice without contradiction

I was just finished exercising a horse when I met Steven Muldoon outside Pat Rohans yard in Norton. We chatted for a few minutes then at the request of a mutual friend he very kindly gave me the leg up on Sea Pigeon. I had sat on him before at Greystoke but only for about 20 seconds when Frank Levy gave me a quick leg up when no one was looking.

Retired at the time Sea Pigeon was being housed at Pat’s prior to going to Polly Teirney’s yard at Slingsby.

This time with Stevens permission I was allowed to take him a for a 5-10 minute walk along the road and back something I will never forget.

My collection of ‘Go Racing In Yorkshire’ season tickets

The two ‘You Win’ statements with a pleasing string of zeros from William Hill Action Line and Coral Credit, thanks to the victory of Danger Baby (Peter Bowen/Claire Bryan7) at Bath on 27th September 1999 – my biggest-ever take. 33/1 early, eternal thanks chaps :)

Lots of lovely photos and memories but in terms of an artefact I like having Rock of Gibraltar’s shoe.

He’d done his last piece of work at Arlington Park, before the Breeders’ Cup Mile, and when he was reshod with his racing plates Aidan’s farrier gave me one of the old shoes. Have it on my mantlepiece for luck.

Some will find this sad but my Best Mate Story book, bought at Sandown races when Hen and Terry were doing a book signing.

Was hilarious with Hen asking the questions and Terry moaning all the time because he was half deaf and couldn’t hear the names :D

Very good read and a superb day!

I have a Mattel ‘Action Thompson’ from the 1980’s.

Styled to look like Derek himself, this curio was produced in strictly limited numbers for the cognoscenti. A smooth mane of good-as-the-real-thing ersatz hair is combined with a number of moving parts. Pull the string on his back and the words "Steady on big fella!" spout forth in a sort of Stephen Hawking/John Inman style.

Sadly my Derek has no genitals.

One of these was sold on Ebay for fourteen grand last year but some things one just doesn’t part with. Anyway, I’ve thrown the original box away which always ***** the value…
