Here’s the article. Does bring a slight lump to the throat.
Can I have a prize if I predict Ginger will go for Timeform ?
January 3, 2012 at 22:30 in reply to: Ayr called off due to PA system fault (nah, high winds!) #385497Why would they need to call off a racecard due to a PA system fault, anyway? Horseracing did in fact exist before the invention of the PA system, and up until the 1990s Keeneland didn’t even have an announcer.
I think they have to have a working PA system at events such as this by law for H&S reasons.

A thoroughly enjoyable read. I don’t think Kauto quite has the global following of Zenyatta. I’m sure many of us were shouting at the television / computer screen in a similar manner when she swooped down the outside in California, and came so agonisingly close in Kentucky.
Very few horses have the ability to make us do that. It’s something special when we place a horses personal quest above our own finanical gain and I’m sure those who had a few quid on Long Run found themselves screaming for Kauto turning into the straight. I wasn’t disappointed for anyone else except Zenyatta when she lost. In a similar vein, yesterdays success was all about Kauto.
His most gruelling victory has not been won on the racecourse, but in the hearts of the racing public. They have made him go above and beyond the call of duty to win their affection, but he truly became the peoples horse yesterday afternoon.
Yes, a very strange thing that you can back one horse but shout for another. I had a bet at long odds ante post on Dawn Run when she won the Gold Cup but remember being on course and shouting on my old favourite Wayward Lad. Part of the magic of this sport.
As has been said they were two different offences. He dropped his hands before the finish. It may have been close to the line but as it was a dead heat it could well have made the difference. It was hard to see straight away and I think the stewards deserve full credit for picking it up.

I can’t understand why you post on the forum if you dislike the sport so much. I am actually not sure you understnd racing and betting much by your posts. There is plenty of value to be had if you look around and are selective. You don’t have to bet every day and in every race. I think your comment about Captain Chris sums it up. If you don’t see the point of betting it then don’t. Just wait for another horse on another day. Of course you wouldn’t bet it EW in a seven runner race if you only thought it would come third. You wouldn’t even bet it EW in an eight runner race EW if you only thought it could come third. You would only bet it if the 8/1 was better odds than it should be to win the race.
Nice to see Sam "Wally" Cohen get his come-uppance too.

Thank you both for that. I never knew you could do that on the RP site.

Ruby Light did do it well I thought. My reservation for the festival is that he seems to prefer softer ground. Trainer has just said on ATR that depending on how he goes in the Lexus they might aim for the Gold Cup with him. Good luck with the bet though Ginger. If he does go to The Ryanair and it is soft 12/1 is a decent price.
It was right that Jacqui Coward take a large slice of the blame but of the others I do not understand why Heskin was singled out for punishment.
A New Story was going really well and I guess Heskin has been done for barrelling, but in my view you either do Coward only or do them all.
If you watch the replay Heskin was clearly turning onto the correct course and then changed his mind and altered course to follow the others. Both he and Coward rightly, imo, got bans. There also might be a case for others as well.
I do agree that a tape could have been held aross but the responsibilty does lay with the jockeys to go the correct way. Interesting that at least two of the riders who went the right way had walked the course earlier.
Two banned for twelve days others let off.
This is good to see. I use the one on GG.Com. It is free and you can have as many horses as you want on there. You get the email about 5pm the day before and they also email the result of any on your list. They also have a text alert as well for a cost of 50p.
Sam waley Cohen is a proper jockey. Just ask his weighing room colleagues who all have the utmost respect for him.
I thought he came across well but not sure if he was just saying what people wanted to hear. One interesting thing though when they talked about the whip was that he said the rules were fine it was the penalties which were the problem.
Whatever,I hope he does well and I wish him luck. He’ll need it.
Paul, I agree that sports should stand on their own feet. However, I think this is a bit different. The bookies are trading off someone else’s product. They want racing so they can profit out of it but are unwilling to pay towards it.
