I do most of my betting online. Not that I gamble a lot but I find it more practical via the net for betting purposes and keeping records/stats. Come the Cheltenham festival though it is all cash bets for me as I’m either at the festival or out somewhere with friends watching it.
Who doesn’t love winning though? picking a winner is great and I get a real buzz from it. Of course, the financial return is a nice bonus too!

Denman was an awesome Gold Cup winner and I can see why he has many fans but he has one weakness. He will find absolutely nothing in a finish if he is challenged.
I agree but the problem is hanging on to this beast once he gets going. I thought Denman was an overrated shopping trolley but he certainly proved me wrong; he’s immense. His style of running will cause any stayer problems and with the conditions at Cheltenham perfect for him he’s nigh on unbeatable in the Gold Cup.
However, I would never write Kauto off. He’s the most talented NH horse in training and on his day can beat anyone. I’d love to see him win another Gold Cup and there is no better way to do it than beating the mighty Denman! (fingers crossed)

But – should Denman arrive at the festival in a similar state of health akin to this year, then I maintain that it won’t matter one jot how many sheepskin nosebands the brilliant Kauto Star wears.

The brilliant Kauto Star will destroy Denman…wait… I said that last season and look what happened!

I’ve got high hopes this season for Kauto and he has started off well with a nice run at Down Royal. However, Denman is still the one to beat and it will take an epic performance (imo) to beat him under GC conditions.
As a devout Kauto fan I have high hopes for him this season. Today was a good run as he jumped and travelled well. I expect (hope) that Kauto will build from this by winning the Betfair Chase and King George. However, the big question can only be answered at Cheltenham come March – can he beat Denman? It will take a monumental effort to overcome the Tank in the GC (imo) but if any horse can do it Kauto can. Let us hope they both line up fit and well

So early in the season and I’m already thinking about the Gold Cup!

Early days yet but a very good start to the season for Kauto. He jumped and travelled so well. Great to see him back.

After the way Kauto finished last season I wouldn’t be backing him today given it’s his first run and the ground concern. I hope he gets home safe and sound. That being said, he should destroy the Listener & Co.

I for one would love to see Denman line up against Kauto at Kempton – why?…. it’s the only chance I believe my beloved Kauto has of beating Denman

Regardless of how Kauto ran in the 2008 GC Denman was simply better on the day. Whilst I still believe Kauto is the better, more talented horse I think Denman is unbeatable at 3m+.
All things considered I hope both horses line up fit and well for the upcoming season.
As a Kauto fan I’ve resigned myself to the fact that on the day Denman was simply the better horse. I agree that Kauto didn’t ‘appear’ to be in the same imperious form of his KG win but to state the obvious horses don’t always run to the peak of their ability.
Take nothing away from Denman though. He was excellent on the day having jumped and travelled so well. He’s our GC champion now and the one to beat next year.
I believe Kauto can reverse the form with Denman but it won’t be easy at the GC distance on soft(ish) ground.
All things considered I hope both Kauto and Denman have a nice rest and are raring to go next season.

Like most I hope that Kauto is not run again this season and is put away for a well deserved rest.
As for next season I’d love to see Denman line up against Kauto in the King George. However, I feel Denman will be kept to races that suit his style of running. He obviously lacks the versatility/class of Kauto but he’s a monster at 3m+ so why risk him in races that simply don’t suit.
I certainly wouldn’t rule out Kauto for the 2009 Gold Cup but Denman is going to be very hard to beat at that distance. However, if any horse will scalp Denman on his preferred conditions it’s going to be Kauto.
Denman winning the Gold Cup was a shocker for me as I thought he was nothing more than an over-hyped shopping trolley!…..shocked
, impressed
and heartbroken
(for Kauto) all at the same time.Sean Rus,
The next thing you’ll be telling me is that those 2 horses in between Channel 4’s coverage are actually actors….get away with you!!!
What!!! they’re not actors???!

Denman – GC champion, excellent 3m+ machine, beat the best (Kauto)
Kauto Star – Imperious KG win, still the most versatile/talented NH horse in training
Katchit – Superb CH win against all odds
Master Minded – Exceptional QMCC winner
Binocular – Very talented hurdlerApril 6, 2008 at 17:05 in reply to: End of season figures for Ghostofthefellow plc…..not good! #156480Whilst I’m not a big gambler I do keep a record of all my bets to analyse my profit/loss and this has been my best betting season (albeit I’ve only been betting a few years). I’ve almost doubled my stakes throughout the NH season but that is probably pocket change to some people on here. I would have done amazingly well by my standards had my beloved Kauto not get turned over at Cheltenham. All things considered though I’m very pleased.
No flat betting for me though so I’ll be putting a bit away each month for when the jumps start up again later on in the year.
Jumps over….. Nooooo!

I’ve nothing against flat racing I just think jumps is much better. Bye for now Kauto, Denman, Katchit, Master Minded, VPU, Tidal Bay, Inglis Drever et al…. hope you all have a nice rest and are well for next season!

Excellent pics mate.
(1) Butler’s Cabin
(2) Cloudy Lane
(3) Mckelvey
(4) Comply or DieI can’t speak for FoF as to why he made those recommendations but it is plain to see that those 3 horses were the best in their respective races…
That’ll be it.
Glad that is cleared up then, phew
