Probably felt more emotional watching Voy Por Ustedes win today than any race I’ve seen this year; please give this horse the credit he deserves…
Yeah 100%

Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
April 4, 2008 at 16:02 #155845year after year Aintree throws up results that don’t mean squat away fro the place………
So why, if this trend was so established, did you recommend everyone back the Cheltenham winners Albertas Run, Master Minded and Captain Cee Bee at short prices?
So you’d back them and lose your money.
only kidding!I can’t speak for FoF as to why he made those recommendations but it is plain to see that those 3 horses were the best in their respective races as per form, ability etc. Unfortunately they got turned over – I was on two of them

That’ll be it.

Glad that is cleared up then, phew
April 4, 2008 at 16:32 #155855I agree that a 186 performance doesn’t make a 186 performer. I also agree that MM didn’t get the 2m4 today. I wouldn’t judge the horse on today, but I never considered the 186 rating viable, based on one single run. I maintain from my earlier thread that Denman is the more versatile horse and entitled to the higher rating.
April 4, 2008 at 16:40 #155857Mr King stated at the start of the season to a few people that Voy Por Ustedes would step up in trip at some point this season.
Fantastic to see the horse get back to winning ways today, really good performance.
April 4, 2008 at 16:41 #155858Just like on the betfair forum, nobody ever loses on here, without pages and pages of excuses.
My only bet at the meeting was on a loser that ran poorly, Exotic Dancer. A poor selection, imo. Nobody’s fault but my own.
So I’ve already contradicted myself, in just two sentences.
April 4, 2008 at 17:51 #155877Master Minded didn’t stay 2m4, simple as that. I really wanted him to hack up again today and confirm that he could really be something very special, but as it stands I suppose he’ll have to settle for being the best 2-miler around at the age of 5!

IMO at first glance Voy Por has improved a handful of pounds for the step-up in trip, I’d be surprised if he didn’t go on to take his chance in the King George next year given Master Minded’s apparent dominance over 2 miles (although i won’t comment on his chances of success just yet!)
April 4, 2008 at 18:20 #155883Master Minded was being touted as a great horse after his demolition job in the Queen Mother. I was adament after the event that we shouldn’t go OTT with this horse after just one performance and that was proven today.
He’s a fantastic animal and people with longer memories than myself will claim him to be the most exciting QM winner in history, but he has to display that level of form over a season or two before we even begin to think about attaching superlatives that are already thrown aboutall too easily.
MM certainly wasn’t a banker to me – remember Well Chief at odds-on in this race 12 months ago? VPU is a wonderfully tough and talented horse that hasn’t got the credit he deserves. He’s only finished outside the placings once in 25 completed starts – that’s a tremendous achievement for a horse that has competed at the highest level for most of his career.
Master Minded will be a tough nut to crack next season over the minimum distance and he’s sure to improve again…scary thought.
April 4, 2008 at 19:02 #155892One aspect of the Mildmay course that cannot be underestimated is the fences. They are punishingly stiff and mistakes that horses can get away with at other courses bring them to a standstill here. Lots of so-called upsets can be put down to the ‘form horse’ making one or more bad mistakes that completely knock the stuffing out of them.
I didn’t see the mistake Kauto made but my brother said he won’t ever forget it and reckons the race could have ruined him
April 4, 2008 at 20:17 #155910I was also very surprised Richards didn’t choose the Melling for Monet’s Garden.
I don’t think it mattered what race Monet’s would have run in. He was cooked after 3 fences yesterday.
April 4, 2008 at 21:31 #1559422 questions.
1 – Do people think that VPU would have won the Ryanair?
2 – What rating do people think Master Minded should be on now? Unaltered because of a single run?
April 4, 2008 at 21:33 #155945Because of MM’s defeat over 2m5f in France I wasn’t totally surprised he got beat today. However, I was by the distance – but from the race I think we take it that MM is a 2m pure and simple, and that VPU has improved for the step up in trip – in fact maybe he’ll be even better over 3m. As for ratings, I always take them with a pich of salt. I think it was McCoy on TV today who said he’d need to produce a few more wide margin wins to get a 186 rating.
April 4, 2008 at 22:14 #155969Someone, possibly Norman Williamson said that the fences on the Mildmay course arn’t as stiff as they used to be; as I said about Kauto Star I’ve never seen horses make mistakes on that course and get away with it before.

Saw interview with AK and as Gaz said, he wanted to put VPU up in distance all season but wanted him to defend his crown first. Said he would go for King George (I think starting him off in the Peterborugh chase which could be a decent race against Racing Demon who is decent on that track oing right handed).
I would imagine if he doesn’t get the trip at Kempton he would go for the Ryanair next year as I don’t think AK will be too keen to take on Master Minded at the minimum trip. He said in the interview that he was not the quickest horse at home – and this is last years champ chase winner.
I wonder if Howard Johnson kicking himself.I read that he was really tempted to bring Tidal Bay to this race – but has gone for the, "potentially" easier option tomorrow. just wonder if Tidal Bay would have been a big player today?? Thoughts anyone. I guess the question is, did VPU really see out the rip well, or did MM just stop 2 out??
April 4, 2008 at 22:24 #155974I think starting him off in the Peterborugh chase
I bet Fiona Needham et al were punching the air when they heard that! Now all they need are some rivals to take him on in their increasingly embattled Grade 2…

April 4, 2008 at 23:02 #155995Im very surprised everyone seems to think MM didn’t get home.
The huge blunder stopped the hores to almost a stand still when looking to be going equally as well, if not better than VPE. I always thought if anything gets 2 miles round cheltenham off a strong pace then 2m4f anywhere else is a doddle. That theory or rule seems to have vanished with one race or serious blunder!
I still think the horse gets the trip when on song (as clearly it wasn’t today) and without a horrendous momentum stopping mistake. I was very surprised he wasn’t pulled up immediately to be honest.
I wonder price you’d have got on MM before the mistake?
