I would guess the average claimer in Northern California pays
a similar amount of prize money as a G1 in Southern America.

On a recent trip to New York I spent an afternoon at Aqueduct Racetrack.
I was seated on the second tier above the winning line with a betting terminal on the table showing replays and races from other tracks which I could also bet on.
Not to mention the waiter service bring food and drink all day to the table.
I can only imagine how much this would cost in the UK but it cost me $7 for myself and girlfriend.

I understand this is mostly funded by the courses being tote only but from an enjoyment point of view it was a great day at the races.

The US tote pools pay $1.1 minimum. They call it Bridge Jumping- lumping on a 1/5 shot to place as it will pay minimum $1.10.

Speaking of value on the Tote I see the Scoop6 win dividend paid more than a £2 acca again today.

I must agree with the comments about Trevor Denman calling the races. Tom Durcan was sorely missed this year imo. I certainly regard him as a the best in the business.

Though overall RUK/ESPN’s coverage was pretty good.
Regardless of whether you choose to get RUK or not I would say definetly get a Sky+ box. Life changing is how I would describe it. No more nagging from the Missus she can tape everything whilst the sports on without the aggro of a VCR.
Not to mention being able to fast forward through adverts.

From a racing point of view being able to rewind races you weren’t even recording is good or not good as you can relive how you got beat by a short nose.

Luke Harvey said Lee Mottershead did at least one race. I think Matt Chapman did a couple as well.

I thought it was quite refreshing to hear a different voice and some interesting new phrases such as ‘the fav is under the shove’ and ‘ if was having a bet now I would back’ great stuff.

I was impressed by KS but am cautious because of the opposition beaten today. I thought Nick Luck on RUK was about to be overcome by emotion after the race he was that happy.
It was good today as for me the jump season proper started.
I’m glad ATR is ‘subscription free’ if you pay the excessive amounts for the other sports channels. However ATR are obsessed with ads and it is definitley to the detriment of their coverage. A couple of Sundays ago they had pictures for 4 meetings including the Irish and the put Wolverhampton (and it was a decent card by Wolvers standard) behind the red button. Now as there was very few if any clashes I can only presume they did this to ensure they had plenty of time for lots of the same annoying adverts.

I’d agree Sir Percy is the strongest of the front 3 in the betting but there are some doubts and he is too short a price IMO.

Since my last post I have heard a good word for Confidential Lady. I am therefore boldly predicting
1st Confidential Lady
2nd Maraahel
3rd Notnowcato

    Should be a nice Trifecta

Sorry Jackane for getting you in trouble with Clivex, I’m certain you have had enough stick in the past week or so.

Champion Stakes seems to me like the England football team. Square pegs in round holes.

Hurricane Run who was at his best in a strong paced 1m4f in last years Arc. So with a trip too short and the horse not in good form i’m against.

Sir Percy, needed every yard of the 1m4f in the Derby and with long lay has fitness doubts.

Pride, the Bridesmaid of the field, guarenteed to be a fast finishing second.

That leaves the Juddmonte form on similar ground over the same trip. Having been at York that day i’m still convinced Maraahel won and the judge got it wrong (talking the pocket). But I think the value lies with Maraahel to turn around the form with Notnowcato and win. With a saver on Notnowcato.

    Teofilo for the Dewhurst.

    Detroit City for the Cesarewitch.

I think there are 3 points to consider.

1st I don’t agree Coolmore are big on risks they usually play the safe option. I remember a similar discussion re. Rock of Gibraltor, Classic or Mile. With absolutely nothing to lose they still went for the Mile.

2nd factor to consider and one which I think will determine the entries is the strong hand (numbers wise) Coolmore has this year. They don’t like to run their best horses against each other which could mean a horse that may not have the Classic as its first choice, could end up running in the big one.

The other factor to consider is the fact the fav for the Classic is owned by owned by Coolmore’s biggest rival so they will be desperate to run anything they think has a chance of winning.

Anything will be an improvement on the current facilities at Donny. I just hope they have moved the hotdog stand, people may then be able to see more than the last 150 yards.

I think a permanent move for the Leger meeting to York should seriously be considered.
