I received a mailshot a couple of days ago from Doncaster. It contained an artist’s impression of the new stand and the encouraging news is that it appears to be facing the track.
October 9, 2006 at 17:24 #79478Not your favourite course then, TDK?
October 9, 2006 at 18:45 #79479Will it be finished on time?
Arena have also recently obtained planning permission for substantial redevelopment at my local track.
Knock down one of the old grandstands and rebuild including a new course entrance and 120 room hotel.
October 9, 2006 at 21:05 #79480Anything will be an improvement on the current facilities at Donny. I just hope they have moved the hotdog stand, people may then be able to see more than the last 150 yards.
I think a permanent move for the Leger meeting to York should seriously be considered.

Typed, I trust, with tongue firmly in cheek.
October 10, 2006 at 08:56 #79482However good/bad the new stands turn out to be, the most important aspect of the redevelopment is that they’ve had the good sense to leave the parade ring where it is i.e a hop, skip and jump from the bookies.
The going, grass and ground at Donny is a whole lot more satisfactory than York’s these days so instead of moving the Leger permanently up the road a slightly less daft idea would be to move the Ebor down it.
The four day Leger meeting has long been my favourite Flat meet and I just lurv their quieter NH days.
October 10, 2006 at 17:26 #79483Well said.
October 10, 2006 at 18:28 #79484Have they changed the track at all?

October 10, 2006 at 21:13 #79486My first date with the present Mrs Kennedy was in Doncaster and on a Saturday night, too. What are you trying to say, Clivex?

God are you sure? Your women must be well impressed! Where do you normally take them? Not Kempton Park for a first date I hope!
October 11, 2006 at 10:10 #79489Kempton is a very romantic location I will have you know
The Tote credit club shed is an evocative location…
