Sprinter Sacre….if he’s 90% he will win and everyone will be saying why did I not believe he could come back to anywhere near is best…..still 11/4 available after another upbeat bulletin from Henderson, and if he had won his last race he’d be 1/4 now….obviously still question marks, but that’s what this thread is about…..he’s the one to prove everyone wrong imo…

I read a small snippet somewhere that Silver Concorde may bypass Cheltenham altogether this year. Does anyone know if there is any credence to this?

Back – Ptit Zig – JLT
Looks a classy prospect and could be destined for the top over jumps.

Each way – Silver Concorde – Supreme
Won the bumper impressively and will be a massive improver on better ground come March. Is a nice price after an ok run at the weekend.

Lay – More Of That – World Hurdle
Way too many imponderables. Flopped on return, has since had a wind op, will miss it’s next intended run, may not even get to the festival at this rate, could anyone make him favourite if not even getting a prep race?

I find this thread all a bit strange.
I understand the opening post somewhat in that giving up something you love and are obsessed about is crazy. But He obviously has his reasons. I’m guessing it’s to do with the fact his body is telling him…enough!!!
How many injuries has the man had? I loved playing football but had to stop because of various injuries over time. I’m 43 and now walk like a cripple. I can say I have never fallen off a horse at 30 odd miles an hour but I can’t imagine it’s much fun. How many times has he fallen? On the day he pulls up another 200 winners he falls in the next race!
Some posts are saying he’s not that good anymore or he was gonna get the sack? After another 200 winners? Come on…
I think he can do whatever the hell he wants with his life, he owes nobody anything. He has a lovely family, and maybe he thinks it’s time to stay at home and watch his kids grow up, and it has to be a lot better doing that able bodied, than from a wheelchair or worse even. It’s an unforgiving business, there are plenty of jockeys who have had to retire through injury rather than making their own decision. There are jockeys who have had horrific injuries, some fatal. I’ve never been his biggest fan, but the facts and stats are there, he’s a record breaker year after year, he’s made of iron, and I think he’s been the greatest advertisement for racing for the past 20 years. I have nothing but admiration for the man and hope he is happy giving his body a well deserved rest and focus on whatever he feels like. Good luck I say. Legend!

I pretty much agree with this word for word. What business of ours is Tony McCoy’s decision? It comes to the sum total of absolutely sod all. He owes us and the sport itself nothing whatsoever.

Its merely a topic of conversation guys and thats what we discuss on here, particularly one thats making headline news.

    Ditto

I think this race is a tad overvalued as to form. The market proved that.
Taquin Du Seuil we have been told finally by JJ O Neill he doesn’t stay 3 miles.
Harry Topper has "gone" and won’t run again.
Unioniste isn’t that good, 6th in the Hennessy where Houblon Des Obeaux was 3rd. If using him as a reliable yardstick (a horse who hasn’t won since Dec 13 beating the moody Cedre Bleu by a neck) then Coneygree won’t get anywhere near Silviniaco Conti.
As impressive to the eye as it was, this was not a great race and I think novices should stick to exactly that. The Gold Cup would be way too big a leap I think.

Ha ha, fair play, great minds and all that. Hadn’t seen your post, but it was put across far more eloquently!

Yep, fair response….maybe it’s because of the higher profile names that are out or under performing we make assumptions…

Wasn’t condemning anyone, just wondered why the conveyor belt of endless winners at all levels of the game has pretty much shriveled up. Half his team are injured or worse and those who are running, only a few are doing well. It’s normally a far more successful stable than is at the moment. There has been press about other stable’s form but not Henderson…

I’ve been thinking this for a while now. I know he has a good record with debut performers, either bumper or hurdles. But it seems all of his good horses (outstanding a couple of them) don’t last as long as a Nicholls horses. Even those that went from hurdling to chasing – Grandouet, Oscar Whisky, Simonsig and Josses Hill, just haven’t got anywhere near reaching their potential over fences. I always thought he was a trainer of chasers and having good hurdlers was a bonus.(Sure I read that somewhere years ago). But it seems once fences are involved, either something goes amiss or they can’t fulfill their potential.
Their was plenty of press regarding the poor form of the O Neill operation, but nothing regarding the form of the Henderson horses. Apart from a handful from probably the most powerful stable the rest are under performing or on the treatment table. It has parallels to the Arsenal football team and the way those players are constantly injured you have to question the training methods. Either there has been a virus or something is wrong behind the scenes, as he’s normally a conveyor belt of winners. I hope, like Arsenal, his season starts turning around and he gets some of his big performers back in peak form for the festival.

With Josses Hill entered in the Scilly Isles over 2m 4f this weekend, do we think Henderson has had a look at Un De Sceaux and thought ‘**** that’?

With Josses Hill’s jumping leaving a lot to be desired thus far, with the horse looking far from the finished article in that regard, a quick fire Arkle could be something they want to avoid.

Could he go for the JLT?

The JLT has no doubt taken from the Arkle and RSA in recent years, but it could be one of the races of the week this year. Vautour, Ptit Zig, Valseur Lido, Apache Stronghold, Gilgamboa, Josses Hill, Smashing, if half of these line up we’ll have some race.

I hope not!! Am on Josses Hill big time at decent prices. With the way they are all running scared and heading for the JLT he only has one horse to beat and would surely place given the current line up. The JLT is looking like a cracker already, so would have many more decent horses to beat. Doesn’t make sense to run scared from one horse and try and take on at least half a dozen that could easily win the JLT.
I’m probably talking through my pocket but still think the JLT could become the harder race.
