I am a King who reigns the kingdom of Ante-Post,i walk my dogs on a Sunday morning,we usually cover about 4 miles of Gods Country (Derbys) before i stop for a brew at our highest point. We take in far reaching views of the Chatsworth estate from this isolated point and i appreciate having the ability to admire the changing seasons,i find this a most relaxing experience and a crucial way of allowing the stresses of Gambling to unwind! From this rocky knoll i have been known to raise my arms in the air and shout "I am the Ante-Post King and this is my Kingdom, nobody knows his horses like me"!! On one occassion a couple of mountain bikers appeared as i was preaching this and as they raced passed, shouted "F****n Weirdo"!

I’ve backed AC for the Gold Cup @ 50/1 and Barker for the CC @ 20/1. So today I guess I would like to see AC win with Barker weakening into second after the last after travelling sweetly and jumping slickly throughout. Not playing in the race today though

    One bet today:

    14:00 Sandown – Frascati Park @ 15/8 (PP)

He ran a cracker on his debut over hurdles coming second to a smart yardstick in Reve De Sivola. I was impresssed by the way he took the race by the scruff of the neck and had them all in trouble before just getting a bit tired late on. That’s easily the best form on offer here. He’s entitled to come on for that and is the one to beat today. His price is helped by the fact that he faces Nicholls/King horses. 15/8 looks massive and I make him an Evens shot. Confident bet.

cant believe no ones mentioned whiteoak on this thread

    she’s massiveley overpriced at 16s

I’d have thought 16s about a horse that I cannot possibly see winning is short enough. Wait for the TBP market if you fancy her to run well I reckon.

At 3m2f+ Denman MIGHT be a slightly better horse than Kauto. But probably only on a yielding surface or softer. On good or quicker I think Kauto would MAYBE just have the edge. I’m still not sure.

But overall surely one can’t argue that Kauto is the superior animal. 2 Tingle Creeks, 3 King Georges, 3 Betfair Chases, 2 Gold Cups. This horse is an absolute phenomenon. Denman has yet to prove he can even drop back to 2m4f and win a Grade 1.

A horse who specialises over 3m2f+ at big galloping left handed tracks on yielding ground, against a horse who can race to a similar level over 3m2f+ but can also drop back to 3m, 2m4f or 2m on any surface at any kind of track – left, right, galloping, undulating, tight, flat . . . Can you imagine Denman winning the Tingle Creek on the bridle?!

I love both horses and it is amazing to have them both racing. But Kauto is the bigger star :D

ps: But let’s just enjoy them both for what they are

Where is Denman being aimed at next?

Aon in Feb followed by the GC

Sounds as if Miss Lavelle wants to get a race into her horse; wonder if he might run a bit too fresh and buzzy.

Needs to be fresh that’s for sure

I like the look of Barker at 12/1 in this. But won’t play until I hear Mullins say he is a certain runner and I also want to hear him say he is pretty fit. Am on him at 20/1 for the CC

    I gave him 163

    I’d probably say 166 MM, 162 WC

In his career, Denman has put up 3 180+ (RPR) performances – all at distances in excess of 3m; Kauto Star has put up 7 – just 1 of them at over 3m.
Go figure which one soft ground will suit best in the next GC!

Would this be the same RPR crowd who gave Master Minded 170 for the Connaught Chase, reet?

I agree that softground and 3m2f will very likely suit Denman better than Kauto Star, but I don’t need a laughing-stock ratings service to confirm it for me.

What rating do you think MM ran to in the Connaught?

I would imagine there is a good chance they will redirect him to the Lexus now especially as Denman looks unlikely to line up

    I now hope that:

    – Kauto hacks up in the KG and Imperial Commander flops badly
    – KS and IC then don’t run again until Cheltenham
    – Denman hacks up in the Aon
    – The bookmakers go 6/4 Kauto Star, 2/1 Denman, 16/1 Imperial Commander

    I can then smash

    Imperial Commander

E/W @ 16/1 safe in the knowledge that he has every chance in the GC as a fresh horse back at Cheltenham.

It is a privelege to have Denman and Kauto racing and they set a very high standard but they will both be 10 in March and have both had extremely hard races already this season and many hard slogs over the past few seasons. Surely it has to take its toll eventually! My heart still says I want one of these two to do it again but my head definitely says IC – a younger horse with less miles on the clock, who loves Cheltenham and being fresh, and showed he stays fine at Haydock – will likely present a great opportunity antepost after the KG/Aon.

I’m fundamentally a ratings/weights man but from time to time you get horses that are so well suited by the particular demands of a particular race that to some extent handicapping is not all that relevant and no matter what the weights etc. that horse will be mighty hard to beat. I think that Denman combined with 3m2.5f on soft ground at Newbury is one such example. The Hennessy suits Denman down to the ground. It’s quite simply his race

I think Celestial Halo would be the most solid proposition after today but it was such a farce it would be daft to start drawing too many conclusions from that
