On paper this looks a very competitive race but I’ll go for Binocular here. He’s the best of this bunch and should leave them for dead once he clears the last. C’mon Binocular!

Ooops
November 28, 2009 at 13:56 #260939lol what a farce of a race, form is erm . . . . questionable

A farcical early pace, but Binocular and Solwhit were incredibly disappointing nonetheless.
November 28, 2009 at 13:58 #260941Thought Solwhit did OK all things considered
November 28, 2009 at 14:01 #260942I’m sure Binocular will have yet more excuses made for him

Strange race though, agree Solwhit did pretty well off a crawl but the winner may just have laid down a serious marker there, wouldn’t be in a rush to dismiss him.
Good result for Zaynar backers mind
November 28, 2009 at 14:04 #260944Solwhit/Binocular were both dire…
Sublimity beat them for goodness sake!!!!!!!

Puzzling race but great for Meade….he does go well at Newcastle mind you
November 28, 2009 at 14:21 #260955I can’t be the only kicking myself for letting a Noel Meade trained Supreme winner go off unbacked at over 30’s on the exchanges, especially in an early season race.
Why do so many of Meades hurdlers seem to travel so effortlessly? Iktitab, Harchi, now this fella.
November 28, 2009 at 14:22 #260956Wouldn’t say Solwhit was dire. Staying on very well in the finish. Where does that leave us for the Champ Hurdle?! Go Native pisses up against Solwhit, Solwhit hammered the Fly, Fly hammered Go Native, Voler La Vedette destroyed Go Native. BUT, it looks like the form of Sublimity’s win over Won In The Dark was right

Still think Iktitaf would have given Sublimity a serious race in the Champion in 2007
November 28, 2009 at 14:33 #260959I think Kempton will sort out the English Challenge….Irish Champion Hurdle at Leapers will sort out the Irish.
The Jigsaw is a mess!!!!!…pieces everywhere
November 28, 2009 at 15:42 #260983I think it’s great that the two fancied runners were well beaten. It certainly makes for some interesting discussions on here, instead of ‘Binocular vs The Rest’.
I would put a line through that race, with all due respect to Go Native and Sublimity. There was no pace in the race, Binocular was fighting for his head over the first couple of hurdles and he us a horse that needs a strong gallop.
One of his main attributes is quick, fluent hurdling. It’s an attribute that is useless off a pedestrian pace. I’m pretty sure he’ll reverse the form in the future, but he has a bit to prove and I think that can only be good.
With his solid effort at Cheltenham last year and a very pleasing comeback, I would have Celestial Halo in pole position at the moment and Hurricane Fly as the novice to follow from last season.

Well I did say if there was going to be a balls up of a race he’d be the one to cause the upset.
The race itself and the form has of course absolutely no bearing on how good Binocular or Solwhit are.
Has given the bookies the opportunity to promote Zaynar to favourite and take some more hard earned cash of mug punters.
My advise is file the form of this race in the bin and stick to whatever your original choise in the Champion Hurdle was.
Come the big day I still believe Binocular will prove he’s the best in the land……..the race today was a complete farce with a farcical result…as I said in an earlier post the winner is a complete pig with bags of talent while still on a bridle..a junior Harchibald as I said….but I still wouldn’t fancy him in the big one.
When he won the Supreme he should have won by 10 lengths but when push came to shove he was stopping and everytime he is put under the slightest bit of pressure he does the same………even if he didn’t stop still couldn’t see him reversing form with 100% fit Hurricane Fly in a million years.
So as I say bin it and forget it.
November 28, 2009 at 17:45 #261009I completely agree Mr. Mouth, and i was on the Meade beast that day as well.
Regarding Binocular, I know the horse has his admirers but he is clearly overhyped, every time he gets beaten there are a ready stream of excuses. He’s patently Grade 1 class, but also patently nothing special at that level.
I wouldn’t be too quick to crab the winner, and after watching the race i would have no hesitation in backing him to confirm the form should the race be ran again tomorrow. Indeed he travelled so strongly, perhaps a stronger pace would have suited him better.
November 28, 2009 at 19:42 #261035What people tend to forget is that Newcastle is essentially a Galloping-testing track with an uphill finish. BINOCULAR has already proved that these kinds of conditions do not suit and this could well be the one major factor that stops him winning a Champion Hurdle.
PUNJABI is the horse I think we should all be starting to consider. Amongst all the hype last years champ seems to have been forgotten. He gets up the hill, he is tough and he also has a touch of class around him.
He is still the one to beat, IMO.
November 28, 2009 at 22:28 #261083If i had any Ante-Post interest in todays race,i wouldn"t be bothered in the slightest about Binoculars running.I am all over Celestial Halo, but i am well aware what Binny does to him anywhere other than Cheltenham. What todays race has done is boost the Hurricanes chances of further success!I dont agree with Fist that Go Native is a junior Harchibald, his supreme Novice form is rock solid!Solwhit is not a champion Hurdler!Game on!

you will eat your words on the 16th of march 2010
