Agree he’ll take 2-3 years away to play golf and get it out of his system; but I could see him coming back at some point as JP’s racing manager or something.
Funny days racing at Newbury. Seemed to pay to be near the pace most of the time.
There were two Hors La Loi knocking around at the same time: The good one with a (FRA) suffix trained by Martin Pipe & James Fanshawe and a not so good one trained by Ian Williams (?)
There was definitely a horse called Norfolkandchance running in the late 80s or early 90s.
Amore Alato looks massive to me at 20s….
Has beaten Fascino R giving 8lb as a novice. Can’t see this being out of the first 4
As well as Edeymi, I was quite taken by the run of Run Ructions Run yesterday, got outpaced before staying on to some purpose.
I thought the race was ugly and said so starting a similar thread immediately after the finish on JFF.
At that point I didn’t know Gorgeous Liege had finished.
That said, I’ve witnessed similar at Uttoxeter (including over hurdles!) and when there’s a lot of money involved, I don’t have a problem with a jock giving the horse a moment or two to fill its lungs, then popping the last and trotting to the finish. This was for 8 grand second money…
But I do question the wisdom of having a marathon at Ffos Las in winter.
With novice hurdles too many of the good prospects are in too few hands these days; then when there is a good one running nobody wants to run and risk being within a few lengths of it.
When I first started going racing most cards were six races and seven was a treat.
14 races – at Salisbury I think – is the most I can remember.
I also think most jumps fans live for chases more than hurdles so two chase cards are always a bit gutting for them.
In the days when 6 race cards were the norm it used to be about 2 quid to get in.

Until this mould is broken, it’ll always be a bit beige because all information has to be presented at face value.
Football doesn’t work like that. Ex players are willing to offer fair critiques of current performances. What is it with racing?
Get him qualified for the Pertemps Final asap!

I find Jim McGrath less than insightful (doesn’t get value; rarely looks beyond fav or 2fav), and much as I like Fitzy, like all jockeys he’s too much of an insider.
Like Corm, I think Matt Chapman would be a breath of fresh air; Lydia would be great, and hey if we want some honest insight into UK and Irish jockeys let’s have Jacques Ricou on the team

Glad the stable had some consolation in the last at Cheltenham today.
Lovely tribute to KE from Chris Gordon.
I’ve heard of quite a few horses suffering with stomach ulcers; it can be a reason why some keep getting into the bottom of obstacles, as they don’t like standing off.
Royal Auclair did win a Cathcart at the festival of course..
Durham Edition from the days when I was first getting interested. Also Fearless Imp.
More recently would love The Giant Bolster to win a Gold Cup and Southwestern to have won a Foxhunters.
I did think Latolomne was a desperately unlucky horse. Having won a fair few races as a novice, he was leading in two Champion Chases (2002 & 2003) when falling at the second-last.
Latalomne is a great shout, was gutted when he fell again the second year.
Would have loved to see him set sail for home, but part of me knows he wouldn’t have got up the hill.
If there is competition in the closing stages
you just wonder how hard they will push Sprinter Sacre
. It’s a fascinating race and one of the most anticipated contests of the season.
Well, do Sprinter backers feel they got 100% from the saddle today?
I thought he got a very tender ride with eyes on the future.
That was how I saw it too, and I wasn’t disappointed at all – thought Barry looked happy enough.
SS travelled well under fairly hefty restraint. Barry still hadn’t asked a question turning in and then he just appeared to tire. If he’s more than 5-2 at Cheltenham I’ll be on but you couldn’t have a bet till NRNB.
Dodging Bullets looks to have improved but I’ll be surprised if SS doesn’t turn it around in March.
Gutted by this. Saw the old boy win his bumper at Ludlow and followed him closely ever since. Usually a pretty safe jumper too.
Big comiserations to connections.
