Even free admission from RUK isn’t going to tempt me to spend three hours in the car to see that card in the flesh.

January 23, 2015 at 11:45 #502510Newbury have now released the attendance figure for their Jan 14th card – 2,293.
There was no January midweek meeting at Newbury before 2002 and this addition peaked at 4,200 ten years ago. Crowds generaly remained above 3,000 up until 2013 and have slowly declined since.
The declince coincides with the start of the major building work and the flirtation of the renaming shambles – but that could be coincidence I suppose.
Still the biggest midweek crowd since the end of the Xmas/New Year holiday period and plenty of NH cards in that period have failed to attract 1000 customers.
I was told that Warwick were working to a budget based on a crowd of 600 for the meeting yesterday.

897 in attendance.

January 31, 2015 at 17:30 #503606When I first started going racing most cards were six races and seven was a treat.
14 races – at Salisbury I think – is the most I can remember.
I also think most jumps fans live for chases more than hurdles so two chase cards are always a bit gutting for them.
In the days when 6 race cards were the norm it used to be about 2 quid to get in.

How many actually paid though ? Some courses include annual members (whether they show up or not) plus stable staff and bookies in the figures
February 2, 2015 at 14:25 #503871Mike’s figure is the same as that cited on the HBLB Attendances website, which defines attendance as "Paying Public, Members and Complimentary Badges".
