Anybody watch Capitaine’s beginners chase at Newton Abbot today? If not watch the replay, it’ll bring a smile to your face. You can see him thinking “!!!” Nice calm ride by STD and a hairy first lap turns into a much better second half. Will be interested to see how his jumping comes on and see if his head carriage and rhythm between fences improves alongside- he looks big and strong enough to be a chaser anyhow.
Well done that was a bold chunk of cash to put on.

Oh. A pity as trainer sounded keen.
Do you think Hydrangea and Winter will be used as domestiques for Rhododendron or will they all run their own races today?
I haven’t added anything to my Queen Kindly 33-1 E/W though watching last year’s Rhododendron races she looks a lovely big filly and hard to beat. Good luck with all your selections today everyone.
Yes Dream Castle looked good at the finish and I’d watch out for him again. Not sure about Eminent- he didn’t seem to get into a nice rhythm. I wonder how he will cope with the Derby.
I agree today was an excellently executed tactical race by the Old Firm using SOV and LB to close ranks and act as spoilers. There was no superhorse good enough to get round them, get into his stride and make his own race, and Churchill got the job done efficiently.
I have no idea who would have won if SOV and LB had set a fast pace, or hadn’t been in the race. It would have been so completely different that it’s impossible to tell. I was looking forward to a fast and furious fabulous race but it turned out to be a bit dull.
Well done Darren excellent long range pick
3.35 New Eminent NAP**
6.35 Hex Beyondtemptation
6.50 Don OrewaI am a jumps fan so pardon me if being naive, but I don’t understand why a horse which has run the Craven faster than any horse since modern timing methods began, and fast enough to win any Guineas in that time bar one, is 4th in the betting.
Yes the ground was good to firm but I expect has been like that in a few Guineas over the years, plus apparently if it turns out a bit softer on Saturday it’ll suit him. Re experience- he has won twice over the course, doesn’t look like a headcase, has the same jockey for Saturday and (yes I am ignorant) how much more experience do you need to run in a straight line with no obstacles in the way?
Yes I am pocket talking, as I have him at 40-1 for the Guineas and 200-1 for the Guineas/Derby double…but I really like him, and he has got me interested in a Flat race for the first time in ages. As Jac says, it’ll take a bloody good horse to beat him.
Here’s hoping they all turn up fit, well and feeling good on Saturday and everyone gets a clean break and a good run. I’m really looking forward to it.
Come on EMINENT!

A decent end to your season…you’ve earned your break!

Particularly since it was achieved with half the number of runners Elliot had.
Um, hands up who predicted the winner…not me for sure!
Great info thanks, that seems like good value too.
Yes a good post and a reminder to keep my ears pricked in autumn for trainer comments to store in the memory bank, especially if they are tucked away in a deluge of “what’s hot for the Christmas festivals” info.

Res Sandown 4.45 Dark FlameYeah I bet him for Tuesday too, 40s I think, and was pretty disappointed when he wasn’t declared! Think the price now partly reflects trainer form but would have been sickened if I wasn’t on.
