You must be joking? The radio five live presenters?
Apalling interviewing technique, classroom humour.
A couple of ignorant little Englanders that are as funny as cancer, and incredibly, are even further up their own arses than the worst right-on offenders on this forum.

Must be the wrong Peter and Jane to whom I’ve devoted most of my teatimes for the last eleven years, then. By turns serious and easy-going, biting and welcomingly familiar, they are peerless in making the most indigestible, ghastly or even just outright boring news stories perfectly digestible and understandible without any modicum of dumbing down.
Their program also helped set the blueprint for the station’s breakfast and weekend evening shows after a few abortive attempts other formats in those slots. I could listen to Five Live non-stop all day if so forced, especially these two exceptionally talented broadcasters.

In my day the rule in school was, ‘****
around and you get a thrashing. I f**ked around once. I got a damn good hiding. Guess what? I didn’t f*** around in class after that.
And I have turned out to be an extremely well balanced individual that you could hope to find. ÂÂÂ
Conversely, I have gone my whole life without being hit either by teacher or parent. Firm and responsible – yet at the same time compassionate – parenting ensured this was never required.
And yes, I also happen to crap rose petals .

To date the worst incident of crime which I have personally experienced was when my car was written off by a teenage joyrider in a stolen Porsche Boxster in Leith a few years back.
I wasn’t especially bothered about the actual crime in and of itself, as the car was insured fully comp and is, when all is said and done, little more than a few bits of metal and wire stuck together.
I simply wondered whether the youngster had ultimately been driven (pardon the pun) to such activities by some combination including (but not limited to) boredom induced by inadequate provision of suitably stimulating local amenities, poor parenting, and peer / societal pressure, none of which are beyond remedying.

IF you wake up in the middle of the night and find a stranger in your house (and god forbid that you have chiildren) what are you supposed to do ?
Call the police? Hide under your bed? Try and establish the criminals intent? See if the criminal has a weapon ?

If it is possible to remove myself from the house safely, I’d do that – with my mobile and car keys to hand – and take myself to a safe enough distance to be able to get help (accepting, as per my previous posting, that in some cases this may not always be as immediately forthcoming as one would like).
Further, it can’t be that hard to convert your bedroom into adequate refuge by the simple application of a variety of locks and / or a steel door, from behind which any phone calls to the police in the event of an intrusion can be made safely.
Really, there’s plenty you can do to help yourselves personal security-wise in the face of the circumstances Peaty Sandy proposed, before having to resort to criminal tactics yourselves.

Taking the law into his own hands in the face of extreme provocation made Tony Martin an unfortunate, rather than a hero of any recognisable description.

Hiya,
Hard to disagree with much of the discussion about Kennedy’s successor. As a lifelong LibDem voter I reckon Ming Campbell would definitely represent the safest pair of hands, by dint of being both experienced at senior level and at the same time comparatively high-profile as non-leaders of third-placed parties go.
There could be an irony, however, real or imagined, that the party supposedly most synonymous with thrusting, radical centrist politics at present would then have a leader far older than those of either of the two dinosaur parties against which it is rallying, but there you go. Not a problem for me, but maybe for the more fickle out there.
I suppose the only other LibDemmer with nearly as much media profile / savvy as Ming would be Lembit Opik, but whilst he has the (relative) exuberance of youth on his side, his predilicition for doing silly things on telly, and his reasonably high-profile marriage to Sian Lloyd, means that there are already two angles from which any suitably enterprising tabloid could attack him.

Given the generally right-wing tenor of the Forum (and the lounge in particular), I presume nobody here is going to suggest rehabilitation of some description for the wrongdoer? Nobody, after all, is actually born evil.

An easy enough truism to swallow, EC, and I’d be interested to see how the 2005 net total of posts to TRF – particularly the Racing and Lounge areas where Ian was mostly to be found – compares to last year.
He was a prolific poster not just in the sense of how many posts he posted, but also in how many he stimulated in / provoked out of others. I’d have him back on here in a heartbeat.

Ach, I am undone! Ta, Bear.
Not seen them live in person, although the gig they did that 4Music broadcast a few weeks ago was pretty special. Power Out is a real fave of mine in particular.
