Someone needs to kick Barzalona up the rear and get him to stop this ludicrous standing up in stirrups and celebrating 50 yards before the line.
Couldn’t agree more. Seems like highly irresponsible behaviour to me with millions of dollars worth of horseflesh beneath him.
I shudder to imagine the reception he would have received from a trainer such as the late Ryan Price!Wit,
Thanks for your reply, that makes things much clearer. So, playing in four
or less markets a week on average, you could assume that you would not incur the premium charge.Without wanting to butt in, I wonder if anyone can clarify something for me. Am I right in thinking that one must play in 260 markets over a 360-day period before becoming eligible for the surcharge, regardless of how much profit is made?
A simple yes/no would do.I must say I thought this a rather curious decision as well. I suppose we can only speculate as to what might have occurred.
In my view, the reason why so few have made progress in understanding and implementing the ideas of Che Van Der Wheil is that much of the valuable information which he had to impart was conveyed with great subtlety. This meant that much of what he wrote had to be researched thoroughly and a lot of thought had to be given to the results of that research.
I doubt very much indeed whether any such information will ever be disclosed in so ingenious a fashion again. He had many knockers and precious little thanks when one considers just what he was really saying.
For me,the most enjoyable part of the whole afternoon’s broadcast – apart from the Derby itself – was the feature about Vincent O’Brien followed by the interview with Sir Peter O’Sullevan, which Claire Balding handled admirably.
She had gap-teeth, set widely, truth to say.
Very apt post, Gamble and I didn’t know until now that the Wife of Bath had teeth missing! They suit some people, notably Terry-Thomas who was hard to imagine with a full set!
The lad was basking in his moment of glory and it was absolutely the wrong thing to say. What surprised me is that Claire Balding is such a talented broadcaster, from a horse-racing family, whose knowledge of the sport I respect. As has been said, one has to wonder to what extent presenters are badgered into trying to create the dreaded "edgy " television experience.
Horse-racing, under both codes, is in reality quite a subtle sport and subtlety is something that the BBC, at least on television, just does not do any more.According to the report I read, she apologised by sending a text message
Nice to hear from you again Ken and hoping you’re feeling as well as can be expected.Well done with Mon Mome and maybe your Mum was looking over your shoulder.
It was also good to see Venetia’s reaction afterwards – she genuinely did seem surprised at the result. Often the trainer with 20/20 hindsight will say “oh yes I always fancied his chances,” Venetia was refreshingly honest.
When being interviewed she comes across as modest and likeable which can make one forget what an assiduous and perceptive reader of the form book she is.
I’ve long believed Venetia Williams to be one of the most under-rated trainers on the NH scene. She has no equal in placing her horses to win and I find it very profitable following her. I didn’t back Mon Mome today but Kayf Aramis obliged very nicely at Cheltenham.
They don’t come any braver or more genuine than Exotic Dancer. I remember him winning the Letheby & Christopher chase at Cheltenham in January,2007. The ground was heavy, the first time he had tackled such conditions but he ran on with gusto, beating Our Vic by eighteen lengths. He won three chases at Cheltenham that season and but for Kauto Star he would have also won the King George and the Gold Cup.
A very sad day for jump racing to lose such an indefatigable campaigner.R.I.P., old fella. Thanks to all for the detailed replies on this thread. I have to confess that I was somewhat perplexed, wondering what the true state of the ground was, particularly on the Saturday.
It all brings to mind the old Hamlet cigar advertisement!
Well done with Manassas,Bulwark. It certainly wasn’t good/firm ground there
today, though, as Expresso Star’s victory shows. He looks a very nice prospect, by the way.Annoying though it may be losing in this way, Don’t Panic had come under starter’s orders and was therefore deemed a runner.
Had it (D.P. is a gelding)
refused to enter the stalls it would not have come under starter’s orders and your dad would have had his stake refunded. -
