A great thread that brings back the memories for me as well. I remember seeing Emerson, Lake and Palmer live in Liverpool around 1974. I know that this band have taken a lot of flak over the years but for me their eponymous album was their best. There is one track – Take A Pebble – on which Keith Emerson demonstrates what a talented keyboard player he really was behind all the showmanship. At times they could sound like people such as The Modern Jazz Quartet.
For the first time in my life I have written a letter of complaint to the BBC Head of Sport expressing my outrage and disappointment at this truly appalling decision. As yet I have received no reply and, as you may think, I’m not holding my breath. But we have to register our displeasure, don’t we? We can’t just let the worst excesses of this so-called national broadcaster, riddled as it is with political correctness and forever kow-towing to New Labour do completely as it wishes without any comment whatsoever.
.I don’t post that often as I try only to post when I have something worthwhile to say but there are so many informed, knowledgeable and interesting contributors on this forum that’s it’s always a pleasure to browse. Many thanks to Cormack and all concerned and best wishes to all for the coming year.
GLSeagull,
Whether Mark loses his 20K or not (I sincerely hope he doesn’t) many thanks for keeping this thread up to date throughout this year. It has been most interesting following the progress of such a seemingly simple method.I have to admit that I expected it to fail at some point during the last twelve months. You have given us all food for thought. Thanks for that, Kevin. I’ll get there in the end with this B****y Site!
Maybe I am a bit slow on the uptake, but can anyone advise how to access previous runnings of a race from years past on this new site? On the old site the procedure was to go to "Results Search" and then type in the name of the race in question , ‘Boylesports.com Gold Cup’ for instance.
Just realised that I now have to log in in order to see them.
Why are the RPR and Topspeed ratings for each race no longer displayed when viewing a horse’s career record. They were there yesterday. Honestly, this is such a frustrating site to use now. Oh for the old site!

Probably I’m missing something obvious, and would be grateful to be told how to do it.
George,
The way I personally would get around this problem would be to press the Windows key (Start) on your keyboard while simultaneously pressing the PrintScreen key.If you have a graphics application (such as Photoshop) installed on you PC import the contents from the clipboard and save as a jpeg.

Is this their way of driving punters towards buying the paper more and using the site less?
That’s the only reason I can think of for replacing what was an excellent site with this clumsy, slow user-unfriendly piece of c**p! Have the powers-that- be at RP never heard the expression "if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it"?
I can’t even log in at the moment no matter which browser I use. If they seriously intend bringing in charges to use this site they are going to have very few takers. By the way, I read elsewhere that the guy responsible for designing this new site also worked on the Friends Reunited website. I don’t know if that tells anyone anything as I have never used that site.Maxilon 5
Your excellent post should be read and thought on by every whinging loser fron here to Adelaide.
GLThanks for drawing our attention to this news,Seagull. I did briefly consider opening an account with them some time ago. I think you’re probably spot on with your reasons why they went under, by the way.
GLThanks for letting us know about that,Matron.I shall tune in. I wonder if they are planning some sort of expose
In my experience Carlisle, the RP forecast is not acurate enough to come to such a conclusion. I would not call the people who do the Spotlights professional odds compilers, though they do a pretty good job. When I do my 100% books, then look at the RP website, it is often obvious they have made a rick. When a horse opens up a lot shorter I think it is most likely because Spotlight under estimated its chance than anything else.
Hi Ginger and Carlisle,
I have done a fair amount of research into the RPBF and came to the conclusion some time ago that it is a useful tool when assessing value. I usually round down to 100% and only bet if a better price than I am left with can be obtained. I know that this is probably far from a perfect method of calculating value but it has saved me a fortune by preventing me from backing short-priced “good thingsâ€I have not researched the exact idea you have in mind but I use the Racing Post betting forecast in a similar way. Another way to work might be to wait for the live betting market and bet only if a better price than the longer of your chosen bookies’ early prices could be obtained.
On the money again,John. Tremendous stuff!
John,
Very well done with your selections to date. As you are one of the VDW cognoscenti, can I ask if A. King is putting what I believe is known as the "compress" into practice in today’s Scottish National?
