If i were him, i’d have told her where to shove her apology. Stupid cow.
April 6, 2009 at 23:49 #220671Yeh, burn her at the stake!
Cos, like we never say stuff we regret. As I said earlier, she aint that bad despite the fact it was so cringey and rude etc but if he did follow your advice and told her to shove it there
then he might be a teeny bit unforgiving. Maybe she should join the forces Graeme…..
April 7, 2009 at 00:11 #220676Crizzy, i don’t think i’ve ever put anyone down like that at possibly the highest point of their life. The boy had just win the national, and she was bang out of order.
If anyone else had said what she did then this forum would have went into meltdown, considering they’re quick to fuss over the slightest of things connected to other people.
Well done to Liam treadwell anyway. Fantastic achievment and you deserve every ounce of praise.
April 7, 2009 at 00:29 #220682Bet she didn’t take the mick out of the rugby league players she interviewed on the Sunday!
April 7, 2009 at 00:39 #220686Graeme, bang out of order? then yes…You should have seen my Mrs!!
Forgiveable?…yes too. She may be squirming seeing it on replay but if she doesn’t regret it ( which she may well if she said sorry) then I’ll give her another chance….April 7, 2009 at 01:06 #220690Poor stuff from someone who is in no position to criticise anyone on the personal appearance front, at the very least.
April 7, 2009 at 01:42 #220696It’s a good job Clare wasn’t around when Dick Pitman was being interviewed following Crisp’s gallant run in the 73 National. David Coleman never once mentioned poor old Dick’s teeth. Made Liam Treadwell’s look like Cliff Richard’s.

Joking aside, I think her comments were unnecessary and a bit insensitive.

April 7, 2009 at 10:41 #220718Ms balding’s arrogance and lack of social graces appeared to have scaled new heights, runs in the family if you ask me, her father was much the same.
April 7, 2009 at 13:34 #220734Not content to ge jobs from The B.B.C. covering NH and flat racing, Rugby, The Olympics, Trooping The Colours etc etc etc Ms Balding is in line for many more programes wait for these.

April 7, 2009 at 13:35 #220735Much ado about nothing imo. Sadly political correctness has a grip on this country and the BBC
April 7, 2009 at 14:05 #220737Denman, you’re talking out your ass. There’s nothing politically correct for thinking that she was out of order. As has been pointed out, she’s hardly an oil painting.
April 7, 2009 at 16:06 #220749"…it’s political correctness gone MAD…"
(Stewart Lee, March, 2009)
April 7, 2009 at 18:27 #220763It’s absolutely nothing to do with political correctness. I’m not politically correct, but i’m street wise. She would have got a sore mouth if she said that to the wrong person. Don’t say something to someone who is 5"4 if you don’t have the balls to say it to someone who is 6"6.
April 7, 2009 at 18:33 #220764There is no one and I mean no one who destests political correctness more than me I can assure anyone however as GraemeTheDonkey says this isn’t a case of political correctness it was just plain rude. You don’t say something like that to anyone if you have any manners.

Perhaps there might be a fundamental flaw in that argument.
The diminutive Bruce Lee or the lanky Peter Crouch – whch one would you rather speak out of turn to ?

I agree with you though – in this particular instance, it has very little to do with political correctness. The "ravishing" Miss Balding simply made a boo-boo.

April 7, 2009 at 18:44 #220767The lad was basking in his moment of glory and it was absolutely the wrong thing to say. What surprised me is that Claire Balding is such a talented broadcaster, from a horse-racing family, whose knowledge of the sport I respect. As has been said, one has to wonder to what extent presenters are badgered into trying to create the dreaded "edgy " television experience.
Horse-racing, under both codes, is in reality quite a subtle sport and subtlety is something that the BBC, at least on television, just does not do any more.April 7, 2009 at 19:22 #220771I’m not really bothered about what Claire Balding said. I just assume that joking about each other’s teeth is something that NH people do.
What I really want an apology for is Gary Wil(t)shire continually saying that the horses on the last page of betting had no chance. I don’t know whether Mon Mome was on that page or the penultimate one, but I do know that Musica Bella was on the last page. I didn’t know what chance she had, but I knew she had
some
chance. The cnut (Wil(t)shire) got on my nerves.
A 200/1 chance in this year’s National was qualitatively different from a 200/1 shot in a 1970s or 1980s National. Those would typically be a stone or 20 lbs out of the h’cap.
All of the horses this year were in the h’cap. That means they only have to do a little bit better to win.
