I don’t normally have an opinion, but when I saw Naaqoos at Longchamp, I thought "that’s the Guineas winner". I have to back my opinion when I have one.
Never been to Auteuil, but have been to Longchamp half a dozen times, and Saint-Cloud once (Arazi).
I ain’t putting a big portion on each month, and it would only get wasted on beer otherwise.

Merigo did it nicely this afternoon. Not too knackered afterwards either. Small trainer, but the owners seem to have quite a few horses, so they must know what they’re doing.
Horse has only been racing for a year. OR122. Another win and he’s in the field.

Clarification, that would be 171 as an Official Rating. RPR usually seems to be 5 or 6lbs more than that.

Gained the impression on the Flat many years ago that the Official Handicapper, being lazy or not knowing what else to do would take the 3rd or 4th and assume that has run to its rating.
RPR not on RP website, but TS is. Assuming they use the same pound per length scale, and assuming Possol ran to his rating, Star de Mohaison did a 171.

Naaqoos bounces between 12.5 and 15 on betfair, rather than the 8/1 – 9/1 I think he is with the bookies. I have to put the money on each month, as I am on minimal wages and it stops me going on drinking binges.
Will be using May pay packet to go to Auteuil to see Denman. (Easier to get to Paris than Cheltenham.) Did Mandarin run in the GN, between Cheltenham and Auteuil ?. . . .Should I take the 2/1 now or wait for a better price Ha Ha Ha

The good thing about Naaqoos is that although he might be French-trained, he isn’t French-owned. Hamdan al Maktoum will make the decision, and I’m pretty sure what he’ll decide.

Naqoos was very impressive and think he looked like the rough shell of something very smart, cant wait to see him next year but will he come over?

I hadn’t even considered that he wouldn’t come over. He’ll come over if he’s good enough. Poulains doesn’t come close in prestige.

I was impressed with him at Longchamp as well. . . putting a bit of my pay packet each month on him. Bonilla gave him a great ride.

    Couldn’t resist it.

In recompense, after I’ve had a go at the GN, SGB (20th) and Paddy Power Chase (27th) I’ll have a go at the trends for the Coral Cup at New Year. 10 year version this time.

The only bet I can recall having on a H’cap Hdle in the past 20 years was Blue Bajan in the Schweppes, and that was only because I was using the angle that it was being ridden by Richard Hughes – I thought he might put the jump jockeys in their place.

    Note to self:

    Race closes Noon, 17th February
Penalties. After Feb 22nd, a winner of a hurdle race 5lb
No penalty to increase a horse’s weight above 11st12lb

2008 Naiad du Misselot (? – I’ve still never heard of that one)
    2007 Burntoakboy
    2006 Sky’s The Limit
    2005 Idole First
    2004 Monkerhostin
    2003 Xenophon
    2002 Ilnamar
    2001 Foot & Mouth
    2000 What’s Up Boys
    1999 Khayrawani
    1998 Top Cees

Darkness came 3rd in Star De Mohaison’s SunAlliance, and 3rd to Possol & Mon Mome last time. I think I read on the sportinglife website that Egerton said he has got one bullet with the horse this season. Anyone got an idea as to what race it might be?

(While on subject of Egerton, also read a couple of weeks ago that Hobbs Hill was a couple of weeks from running. I thought he might turn up in the Peterborough, as a rushed prep race for the King George. Anyone know anything about him?)

I hope I didn’t steer anyone onto Possol, and that you were put off by Daly’s comment about the ground in the RP this morning. Familiar story, happens all the time in sprint h’caps, right formline, wrong horse. (That’s why I’ve suggested both Barbers Shop & Imperial Commander for the Gold Cup  )

The hurdle races were each to give him his first prep race of the year.

It is a bit embarassing for Nicholls, as to where to place him. Go for a couple of the Irish G1s before the Gold Cup?

Surely a second season chaser traditionally has some sort of say in the finish – I’m just trying to figure out which one(s).

I’m taking Denman’s win in the Gold Cup to be closer to a 180 than 185.
A horse might only have to do a 177 or 176 to win this season.
Barbers Shop and Imperial Commander only have to improve by 1lb per week. That is feasible.
