Star De Mohaison Hurdle rating 139
Would have to run in a qualifier to go for the Pertemps Final.
(Now this posting is a joke.
)[/b]December 13, 2008 at 02:30 #196545Couldn’t resist it.
In recompense, after I’ve had a go at the GN, SGB (20th) and Paddy Power Chase (27th) I’ll have a go at the trends for the Coral Cup at New Year. 10 year version this time.
The only bet I can recall having on a H’cap Hdle in the past 20 years was Blue Bajan in the Schweppes, and that was only because I was using the angle that it was being ridden by Richard Hughes – I thought he might put the jump jockeys in their place.

Note to self:

Penalties. After Feb 22nd, a winner of a hurdle race 5lb

TOP CEES
I ain’t saying nothing – I don’t want to get sued.CONCLUSIONS
Well, the good news is that we don’t have to look for a horse with a row of duck eggs. Also, it is very likely to be in the handicap. (Top Cees was 2lb oh.)
Only one 5yo.
Horse is very likely to be Irish, ex-Irish or ex-French, but I suppose that isn’t saying too much.
5 of the last 6 had won last time out, but that is a new trend.edit: Winners tend to come from behind, but I think one ran prominently.
February 17, 2009 at 14:26 #210687Given the head scratching Catch Me’s connections currently have about a tilt at the Champion Hurdle or World Hurdle. Surely a look at this race would have some merit. He doesn’t quite look good enough for either championship race and the performances this season of top weights such as Fair Along, Punchestowns and Lough Derg in intermediate or staying handicaps is evidence of class winning out recently.

FOOT & MOUTHLast won in 1967
Very droll!
February 20, 2009 at 00:16 #211225This is novel – I don’t think I’ve ever had a bet in the Coral Cup, not even when I was a child.
150 entrants, so you’re not getting a horse-by-horse guide, as it would take me a fortnight at the pace I do ’em.
Two things I will do though. Have a go at the 2m5f H’cap Hurdle at Kempton on Saturday, and do a precis of the Coral Cup entrants who won last time out.
After that, I’m going into pre-season training for the Flat, and Spring Training for the Fantasy Baseball season, so I won’t be making so many posts.
Looking through the entries these are the ones that catch my eye
Bulwark
Chief Yeoman
Grizebeck
Little Josh
Mamlook (even though he is 5yo)
Naiad Du Misselot (8lbs higher probably, than last year)
Pierrot Lunaire (running at Fontwell on Sunday. Won’t he skip Cheltenham, with the main aim being Aintree?)
Serabad
Silver JaroLooks like I have a paucity of Irish horses, and will need to do some genning up.
edit: I’m a bit squiffy, and I’ve agreed to work overtime on Saturday, so I’ll give the h’cap hdle at Kempton a miss.

I am sure Noel Meade was quoted as saying the horse would not travel but that was a few days ago and it hasn’t stopped the bookmakers quoting skinny prices for both the Coral Cup and County Hurdle.
March 4, 2009 at 00:31 #213308thanks stilvi would certainly be an interesting runner an impressive horse with a big upside
March 8, 2009 at 17:35 #214347I would like to see Kirbybroguelantern go for this. If Lough Derg runs he is in weights and 50/1 looks value to me. Many of those at top of market (Pause And Clause, The Polomoche, P’Tit Fute, Mirage Dore and Leg Spinner) will not want soft ground. He is also in the Martin Pipe but that looks more of a plot race to me and given his handy weight this looks the best option.
March 8, 2009 at 18:22 #214352Theres one horse that stands out to me in the coral cup and thats McManus’s horse Dancing Tornado, he ran a good race on heavy ground behind Lough derg and Searbad last time, but in the pierse hurdle he looked like gd-sft was his optimal ground so I would seriously fancy him to win to win this.
Bulwark is goign for the pertemps final I think, but will watch and see on that as had a little go on him in the albert bartlett last year and he didnt run and went to aintree instead, if there a good pace on I could see him going well in the pertemps.

Bulwark appeared to travel well at Haydock but didn’t get home. I think that was a pretty good race though and I would give chances to Synchronised, Scriptwriter (value may have gone) and Heathcliff from the same race.
March 8, 2009 at 18:43 #214360I thought that was the best he’s ever looked over hurdles, he came into it quite promisingly but I think it was probably speed he was done for on the basis that Ive never seen Bulwark ever done for stamina, he just keeps galloping forever. When the jockey starts rowing on them at the end of a staying race especially it sometimes makes them look tired because ethey just cant find that extra gear.
It looks like Williams may be making in roads with his hurdling though, as last season he looked to completely hate it, but in that haydock race seemed happy enough. I reckon on gd-sft at a competetive pace he’d come up the hill quite well in the pertemps but the coral cup I would imagine is a bit short as he doesnt have a lot of speed, and if they even go a bit slow he’ll be beaten some distance from home.
I also have scriptwriter in mind for either the coral or the pertemps, ahvent quite worked him out though.
March 10, 2009 at 22:05 #215041I’ve just done Pouvoir at 33/1. He’s only just out of the handicap and hopefully his prep run would have brought him on nicely. He’s got some good course form (impressive course and distance win in the Relkeel hurdle) and hopefully is still open to some improvement.
March 10, 2009 at 22:50 #215049I’m sorry I haven’t made a greater contribution to this thread I created. I’m too tired to do a runner-by-runner analysis, but I’ve just put an hour’s wages on Ninetieth Minute. I am genuinely surprised that he is not the favourite.
March 10, 2009 at 22:53 #215051Pause and Clause should be favourite imo…. seems to have slipped in on a rather leniant weight.
