    The Derby winner:-

If you could find a horse with blood links to this lot it should have a great chance:-

Sadlers Wells, Dancing Brave, Lyphard, Mill Reef, Native Dancer, Northern Dancer, Never Say Die, Hyperion, Busted

Dancing Brave to our minds the greatest race horse we have seen. He was just round the corner. Yes, better than Sea the Stars.

There’s one and it runs in the Derby.

Re the comparison between MVOB & APOB:

In MVOB’s day, the Derby was the Blue Riband and the stable HAD to know beforehand which of theirs was the most likely winner because the stud value of a Derby winner outweighed everything else that happended during the season.

Nowadays Ballydoyle’s horses are being trained with one eye on their potential autumn targets such as Champion Stakes, Arc, Breeders Cup etc because a couple of Group 1s at varying distances is worth as much in stud value, if not more, than a Derby win.

Therefore APOB often doesn’t know which of his is the best because they haven’t been thoroughly tested at this stage of the season, unlike in MVOB’s day.

Totally agree the Derby isn’t what it used to be. There are much bigger fish to fry (Dubai to add to yours, etc) and the camber can ruin a horse.

As for anyone backing Cape Blanco they must off their trolley. AOB clearly stated it was going to France on C4 Racing Sat am.

    ‘Lay’ if you can……………

    Big Bucks

I initially posted (as a joke) Ted Who???

    I then took a look….liked what I saw

    http://horses.sportinglife.com/Video/Ra … 22,00.html

Got to hand it to the horse he don’t give up…

    This is some late news:-

Trainer Mark Tompkins is hoping there will be plenty of pace on for his Chester Vase winner Ted Spread in the Investec Derby.

"He’s won his trial so you’ve got to go there. He’s always shown me he’s a nice horse,".

"He’s been fine and has sharpened up since Chester. Darryll (Holland) gave him a great ride and it taught him a lot. He’s quite a big horse and is very relaxed. It did him a bit of good.

"I hope there will be some pace. Maybe one of Aidan’s will lead and Bullet Train might go on as well, but the quicker they go the better it will suit him. He’ll definitely stay.

"We need more rain. I hope Mr (Andrew) Cooper, the clerk of the course, will put plenty of water on and I’m sure it will be brilliant ground for everybody."

Michael Hills, who will replace the injured Holland on Saturday, admitted being pleasantly surprised when he sat on Ted Spread for the first time.

"I rode him work on Friday. Basically, it was a routine piece of work for him to get a feel of me and me to get a feel of him," he said.

"I was actually surprised how much speed he had. I had spoken to Darryll and he said to me that he really wakes up on the track and he will show quite a bit of speed, which is really handy for the first part of the race to get the position you ideally want.

Won’t be lapped – might just win!

    Zenjah,

Basically I haven’t got a clue what will win. I have said all along it won’t be SNA. I said the price was bloody silly and you needed to add at least 5-1 to the odds against it turning up. That was weeks ago.

The smart money round here (as I posted days ago) is on Rewilding but they are not always right.

I’m waiting for the final field and no run no loss. Then I shall have a ratio bet.

TEDSPREAD unless we have some late additions. Has as good a chance as any of the current dregs. Goes left handed and the distance.

    Like the price too……..

Coral have removed Cape Blanco from their betting for the Investec Derby at Epsom.

The totesport Dante winner was cut in several places earlier in the day following the news that stablemate St Nicholas Abbey missses Saturday’s Classic.

However it now seems likely that Cape Blanco will wait for the French Derby leaving Jan Vermeer, Midas Touch and At First Sight to present Aidan O’Brien at Epsom.

So whoever said it would win the Derby I hope meant the French version!

    Ted who???

    Hi Big Buck’s

    We agree to disagree.

I was trying to find your post where you backed SNA at 33-1. This was on Saturday. After what was said on C4 I was going to tell you that you must lay some of that. You were in a magnificent position.

    I hope you did.

I’d be surprised if SNA runs again.

Cape Blanco wins the Derby under Kieron Fallon

Which Derby? AOB said on C4 Racing that Cape Blanco was most likely to go to France. He was keeping his options open to the last minute.

    SNA a great lay…………….

Aidan O’Brien on C4 Racing (Sat am) was loud and clear that SNA was doubtful. He said the horse that would never be beaten on the gallops was not the same anymore. He looked puny when the camera was on him in the yard.

I think he said Cape Blanco was most likely to run in France.

btw. Re jockies Aidan said there were plently available and no decisions had been made.

Lets hope for some late entries otherwise Ted Spread is beginning to look very attractive (40-1).

It was never going to win the Derby and if you listened to Aidan O’Brien on C4 on Saturday morning the warning signs were loud and clear.

Let’s hope we get a good late substitute.

    Oh to be a bookie………

SNA is/was never going to win the Derby

Smart talk around here is Rewilding

I’d want to make sure it is running so wait until no run no bet

Yeats won the Coronation Cup at Epsom in 05.

Yep but he had to do it from the front and dictate where he went. The course is a little easier on the rail.

Re – Sir Percy not what the owners say……….

    Or the press–

"Sir Percy only start (in 2006) after his Derby win he finished seventh of eight runners behind Pride in the Champion Stakes,

when it was revealed he was still suffering the ill effects of an injury sustained in the Derby."

In my younger days I have run round the Derby course. It’s not just the undulations it is the way the course slops particularly down the finishing straight. There is a considerable slope away from the stands. This is very apparent in sprints were the winner invariable is drawn stand side and ends up in the middle of the course.

Epsom can ruin a horse and Sir Percy comes to mind. Down the finishing straight your body takes a pounding on the left side particularly if you run it seriously. I can’t see it being much different for a horse with four legs.

So you need a well balance animal and big and therefore heavy must be a disadvantage. Yeats would never have won an Epsom race imo.

This years lot look very poor to me. Lets hope we get some late entries.

    SNA’s odds a joke!
