A SIGNIFICANT gamble on five Irish raiders all trained by Michael O’Hare and ridden by Andrew Lynch is under way on Wetherby’s race card on Thursday evening.
The gamble is reminiscent of the recent Barney Curley-inspired coup that left bookmakers reeling and £2 million out of pocket.
The five runners are:
6.00 (3) Sammy Pat, 3-1 (from 25)
7.05 (5) Willie Martin, 4-1 (from 16)
7.35 (11) Vincent Pipe, 9-4 (from 10)
8.10 (1) Turner Brown, 9-4 (from 11)
8.45 (11) Bale O’Shea, 2-1 (from

Would it be possible for the bookies to pay off a jockey something like 100k to stop the final horse needed rather than paying out 2 million on accumlator bets etc.
June 3, 2010 at 14:38 #298398They’ve got previous for this- they landed a treble I think at Naas some time ago which cost the bookies plenty. A feature of today’s action was the enormous prices all of these horses were on BF this morning- proof yet again of what we’ve discussed on here before- bookies following the BF market like sheep and getting caught out badly as a result. Best of luck to them.

I often wonder about gambles such as these as to how much of the money is that of the connections and how much is it with those joe soap punters just joining in taking a leap of faith….
Fair play to them anyway, hope they land all 5!!!
June 3, 2010 at 16:23 #298436It’s an absolute joke. Paddy Power are refusing to take bets even at SP on the first horse Sammy Pat. Call themselves bookies! I hope O’Hare does it again I was there when he did it at Naas. Managed to get a nice few quid on his last runner that day at 8/1! Bet365 & Setantabet.com are the only ones I can see in Ireland giving prices on these races now.

June 3, 2010 at 19:54 #298475They got the last one home, Bale Oshea has just won.

Yeah 9/2 bit different from the 2/1 it was backed into
at lunchtime. Bookies have clearly had a chat with O’Hare
and all his runners have been false gambles to get the
satchels loaded. Disgusting.June 3, 2010 at 20:02 #298479I think you were dreaming or too much Guiness we were on Tarvini @ 10-1

You are joking aren’t you.
Please tell me you don’t think this is what happened.

Joke gambles, you don’t see 33/1 shots go into single figures 3 times for one meeting on a trainers mounts. All false. Get people thinking "we can have it off here" and nick a nice few quid.
IMO.

June 4, 2010 at 07:18 #298516Did anyone notice that the final leg saved the bacon? By that I mean that our old friend Mr.Curley was meant to be the icing on the cake with a juicy 6/1 winner in the last at Sandown. That’s what friends are for….
