The horse you can see being held is Gavin, the leader who fell bringing down Solway Molly. I assume Solway Molly was fatally injured running loose following the fall, you can see her following the field for the next few fences before she goes out of camera shot.
I can remember a horse called Egg that was around in the early 90s.
Thanks Nathan for organising. Same again next season?
Jamie Moore was KO’d in the fall as well and taken to hospital.
Another part of my childhood gone. He may have been the most famous person not to have their own Wikipedia page.
Thanks, really enjoyed being part of this league. I think I only won because I remembered to enter each week! Same time next year?
A former colleague of mine on a works lunch mis-pronounced Cous cous as ‘Kwah-Kwah’ although in fairness I think it was more that she didn’t know what it was.
Gary Delaney is probably my favourite of the current bunch of ‘mainstream’ comedians.
Jethro, Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown and Kevin ‘Bloody’ Wilson (if he counts as a comedian) were my favourites from previous generations.
I’ll also mention that I went to a darts exhibition a few years ago that was compered by Martin Fitzmaurice (are you ready, ladies and gentlemen let’s play darts!) and he was as funny as any comedian I’d ever seen.
Oh, concerning Michael McIntyre, if you do want a laugh at a clip with him on it go to YouTube and check out Eliot Fletcher swearing at Five Star on Going Live! McIntyre is the little boy sitting next to Sarah Greene.
I read the Beano as a child and still buy it when a special edition comes out. I have edition numbers 2000, 2500, 3000, 3500 and 4000 as well as the 50th anniversary edition.
I’d be fascinated to learn which horse has jumped the most Grand National fences. West Tip must surely be up there, completed five Nationals and got to second Bechers on another occasion.
This brings back memories, I remember watching that guy on You Bet when it was on TV and him saying he backed Otter Way.
There’s an Irish horse called Back Bar which has the same name as a Grand National horse from the 90s.
I can also vaguely remember a controversy years ago over two horses with very similar names, something like Crystal Spirit and Crystals Spirit, although this was when I was a child so my recollection might not be entirely accurate.
I buy a standard poppy every year (ie without the green leaf) and wear it with the smaller leaf at the top and the larger leaf at the bottom.
I’m really starting to be annoyed when you see poppies being worn a fortnight before Remembrance Sunday, I’d hate to think that this is going the way of Christmas becoming commercialised with the true meaning being lost.I just joined (mid round so not sure if my points for this week will count).
Just watching the replay of this race. The fence where Damage Control fell became the 2nd last on the second circuit and was dolled off. The horse who was running in 6th place appeared to jump the fence which I would’ve thought should’ve been a DQ but there was no mention of this in the results.
I was actually there with my nine year old daughter, we were standing about fifty yards away from it when it happened.
No offence taken here either (although I don’t think I was being sensationalistic ((if that’s a word)). I agree that this seems to be down to bad luck and coincidence more than anything else.
