Earlier this year, Fatty from The Bash Street Kids was renamed Freddy.
Now Spotty has had his name changed to Scotty.
Right, because that will really stop kids making fun of the fat kid or the spotty kid…
I have neither read – nor thought about – The Beano in over 50 years.
But it wouldn’t surprise me if it was still popular among a few TRF Lounge habituees as it strikes me as the sort of publication which is pitched at their level and might be the place they get their notions about current affairs from.

DISCIPLINE MAKETH THE BOYI read both comics but on balance I probably just preferred the Dandy – Korky the cat and Desperate Dan are called to mind. The Bash street kids were mayhem – I was too young !
