“The Euphrates”
Coolmore are usually reliable enough in coming up with decent names but I think they scoured the globe a little too closely to come up with this one. Whatever about considering the general public they should show some consideration for Mssrs Hoiles, Bartlett, Holt etc
May 11, 2024 at 11:45 #1693855Ian Davies horse “No Degrees of Uniqueness” is a poor name
I find it an attack on my horse name of “Quite Unique”

Ian has finally won something…Blackbeard to conquer the World
May 11, 2024 at 12:53 #1693876Am I missing something here? What is the problem with The Euphrates? Funnily enough Chris Dixon on Racing TV earlier was incapable of pronouncing it
Surely everyone’s heard of the longest river in Western Asia?
May 11, 2024 at 13:03 #1693881Poet Yeats, it’s the hoi polloi they must consider😉
(I would advise against “Yosemite” too)
May 12, 2024 at 10:07 #1694050Silviniaco Conti….
Ask Ian Bartlett about his own creation of that name.May 12, 2024 at 17:59 #1694151Peter O’Sullevan could never pronounce Ventiquattrofogli.
The more I know the less I understand.
May 12, 2024 at 18:53 #1694163Mike Cattermole repeatedly called the winner of the 4th race at Plumpton “Ez Tiger” today. The hoi poloi all realised it was pronounced “Easy Tiger” and mostly seemed to have backed him for that reason.
May 12, 2024 at 18:55 #1694164As for worst names, I nominate “Tackletommywoowoo” (also at Plumpton), though it isn’t hard to pronounce.
May 12, 2024 at 19:02 #1694165Wayne Rooney owned a horse once
Called it pippy…. It’s a racehorse pal not a pet puppyBlackbeard to conquer the World
May 12, 2024 at 23:11 #1694181Names were ‘better’ back in the day, before Weatherby’s dragged themselves into the 20th Century. DIY Motor Store, Hellcatmudwrestler and Muff Diver being particularly egregious examples.
May 12, 2024 at 23:25 #1694182I recall a Richard Hannon-trained horse called Hankypankymanki having an unfortunate mispronunciation by a member of the Channel Four team back in the 1990s.
May 12, 2024 at 23:26 #1694183Don’t know how ‘The Kew Tour’ and ‘Hungry Hur’ slipped through the net
May 12, 2024 at 23:30 #1694184My least favourite names are those where the name of a well-known racehorse of the past is reused.
The set of protected names is far too small in my opinion.
May 12, 2024 at 23:34 #1694185Beef Or Salmon that was a cack name.
The more I know the less I understand.
May 13, 2024 at 04:16 #1694204Of course as Marine pointed out Hellcatmudwrestler was a cracking name , thought about naming my first born it but er indoors would have banned it .
I also loved Wiki Wiki Wheels ( taxi firm in West Indies I think it was ) , Miki Miki Motor , and Marx Brothers characters J Cheever Loophole , Hiram B Birdbath and there was one other on that theme , I think J Cheever was the best of them , all trained up north and early 2 year olds .May 13, 2024 at 04:21 #1694205Rufus T Firefly the other of the Marx Brothers horse names .
May 13, 2024 at 04:29 #1694206Duplicated names Marlingford . This skipped through but different jurisdictions .
Tower of London raced by Godolphin in Japan , born 2015 , won multiple group races including top Sprint in Japan the Sprinters Stakes , now at stud Darley Japan.Tower of London , Group winner and top staying prospect Coolmore and likely stallion
Seems odd to get through so close ,both will appear in pedigrees .
