Never done lay beting before put your thread has both confused me and intrigued me. I understand all your picks etc but is’t the first bit of the thread that I don’t get, not saying you didn’t explain it well I’ve just never seen this type of thing before! Could you please elaborate on what this bit means?
"
FIRST LAY BET £100 AND ODDS OF .67 WITCH WILL COST U £67 IF IT WINS
SO JUST SAY THE FIRST BET HAS WON IT HAS COST U £67
SO THE SECOND BET YOU NOW NEED TO WIN £200
JUST SAY THE ODDS OF THE SECOND HORSE IS .50
SO YOU HOW HAVE TO LAY IT FOR £267 WITCH WILL COST U £133.50 IF IT WIND
SO NOW JUST SAY THE SECOND HORSE HAS WON IT HAS £133.50
SO ON THE THIRD BET YOU NEED TO WIN £300
JUST SAY THE THIRD HORSE IS .50
YOU NEED TO LAY IT FOR £500.50 THIS ONE LOOSES NOW YOU HAVE WON £300"Also what are good sites for laying horses? Don’t think I’ve seen the option to do it on paddypower but then again I’ve never looked out for it.
Thanks in advance.
You lay horses on betfair or betdaq
The bit you quoted means that if one of the horses wins then kenny ups his stake in the next race to try to win back the money he lost on the first race. If the 2nd horse wins, then he ups stake again in the 3rd race etc etc until eventually one of the horses losses
This is known as chasing your losses and you will end up in the poor house eventually
Could you be more specific?
Every race in UK is classified as 1-6 already with additional classifications in Class 1 as Gr1, Gr2, Gr3, & Listed (although Gr2 is not necessarily higher than Gr3)
Alternatively you could class races by their prize-money, which is usually a good approximation of their general worth etc, although this wouldn’t be as useful at the top end
Jesus Christ Joseph, for the last time, NO you can’t go to the disco tonight if you win the Derby
Flat racing doesn’t have the same public appeal in Britain and Ireland as National Hunt racing does
I bet more people in UK & Ireland have heard of Kauto Star than have heard of Black Caviar
Also running lanes for sprints like at the Olympics
Quevega for me
Damn I love that mare!
… February cos it’s good and short
Those 31-day months are such a drag
And don’t get me started on October. A whole extra hour to live. Every year! I mean Jesus Christ, who the hell bloody thought that up!
And now with 3 mins to post we get to see last year’s race instead of looking at anything up to 18 runners in the paddock
What a disgrace

AbtaalIf Quevega could beat Big Bucks then Quevega would have raced against Big Bucks
I think the BHA rules clearly state
"If 2 horses die in the biggest race of the year, don’t compound the race’s problems by banning the winning rider for mis-use of the whip, even if he is doing an impersonation of a dominatrix in a bad mood."
or words to that effect
Had to chuckle when Gary Wiltshire exclaimed ‘they’re backing everything, what a race!’
I personally don’t think it’s funny that the likes of Gary Wiltshire basically refuse to tell the public that the on-course bookies are effectively ripping punters off by the SP mechanism in races like the Grand National.
How many times did the BBC tell people "don’t take the SP because it’s a rip-off" on Saturday?
Last 10 year stats

399 runners (Tyneandthyneagain in 2004 only NR in last 10 years)
147 finishers (36.84%) – just 1 more than Fox Hunters from 60% more runners
94 fallers (23.56%) – no great difference here
60 unseated (15.04%) – compares favourably to the Fox Hunters
77 pulled up (19.30%) – huge increase but to be expected given increased distance of the race
10 brought down (2.51%) – similar to other 2 races
9 refused
1 refused to race

Finishers+PulledUps
Fox Hunters – 62.40%
Topham Chase – 65.51%
Grand National – 56.14%Fallers+Unseated+BroughtDown
Fox Hunters – 36.80%
Topham Chase – 33.10%
Grand National – 41.11%Reducing the number of runners to say 30 and removing the drop from Bechers and the Canal Turn wouldn’t change the spectacle for the general public. It will still be the Grand National and once-a-year punters will still have their bet every year and it will still be a great occasion. The Fox Hunters and the Topham are still great viewing spectacles.
IBAS have already ruled in favour of Betfair in this case so I don’t know what the next step is.
Eventually they’ll kill the game
I reduced betting on horses by about 85-90% when they first started charging. Admittedly I’m a grumpy miserly oul so-and-so but there can’t be too many behind me in terms of not being prepared to pay.
I see this fellow is now trained by Brendan Powell and has raced twice on the AW over the last 6-8 weeks, with RP comments for both races containing the phrase "reluctant to race"
Surely he should be retired at this stage
Even Professor Trubshawe loves racing more than Chaninbar, that’s how much the horse hates the game nowadays!
