I think Sakheer should get the mile OK. He was quite impressive in beating a horse with an OR of 99 by three lengths. By my reckoning that still leaves him some way behind Little Big Bear but he still has scope for improvement.
Will David Beckham get his knighthood now?
Nice cap, bye the way!
As I have said before, Bachelor’s Hall, who has contributed so generously to this forum, deserves a response of some kind.
Come on, David, do the right thing, PLEASE.
Thank you for that link, Ian. As you say, an excellent read.
Surely BH is due some sort of response on here?
If Jack Mitchell had managed to keep the second on a straight course I think you would have to have settled for second place.
‘right, Boss.
Alan, wrong course, wrong price, did I get anything right?………..it was 20 years ago.
With regard to negative comments, going back a few years here, I remember Rishi Persad’s introduction to viewers of the Racing Channel? (Could have been called something else at that time), he was introduced as a “paddock expert”. I believe it was at Sandown and his comment before the first race was that he couldn’t come up with a positive but was confident that, the horse’s name was something like, Omaha City wouldn’t be winning today. As you can probably guess, said horse won at,I think, 20/1.And hasn’t looked back since.
At that time, For some reason I had Jim Ramsey’s (director/producer of the channel) phone number and during a conversation some time after, I brought up Rishi’s gaffe, Ramsey defended him and drove me off by suggesting that I should give it a go. At the ime the idea appalled me but…………….what if?
What a joy it must be to be involved with this horse. Such a trier, consistently gives of her best. Congratulations to all from a very envious supporter.
Perhaps Usain Bolt should have tried 800 metres, then he could claim to be the greatest?
There was a ‘theory’ going around at one time that horses were not being given the same amount of roadwork (walking miles on hard surfaces), using walkers instead and needing less staff perhaps? The hard miles strengthening bones and joints. I haven’t the knowledge to comment but there does seem to be some logic there.
If nothing else, this thread has encouraged AP Racing back into the fold. Something that I am extremely grateful for.
Ian, you came to a conclusion with regard to Dettori after a brief encounter at Windsor, mine was with a rather longer session with Wilson at Bath. It was at a time when I was doing a bit of writing for a monthly racing magazine which meant I had a press pass. During that time I came into contact with a lot of the characters that pop up on racing coverage on the box, I found, with only one exception, them all very helpful, welcoming and polite. Wilson was not, he was rude and snobbish.
I agree with a lot that has been said about the old BBC coverage compared to the dross we get these days. It did seem to treat its viewers with a lot more respect but I think there is a touch of “rose-tinted spectacles” about some of the comments. O’Sullevan, Lindsey, Graham were good but did have their ‘bad’ habits. You praise Wilson for being opinionated but that could also be seen as being dogmatic.
The sooner the people in charge of such things realise that there are people watching their programme are interested in seeing the horses, it is a HORSE-racing programme, rather than talking heads, the better.
Some fascinating stuff here. Surely needs a thread of its own?
Lakota Sioux’s constant tail-swishing gives the impression she’s a real character with quite a bit of ability.
Really, Ian!!
