VPU has been retired. He is not sound.

I’m gutted for the horse as still think he has never been given the recognition he deserves. For some reaosn he’s just necver really been that popular. Admit he is not flashy looking or anything like that – but he always gave his all. Very genuine and tough.

He will go home to live with Sir Robert’s other horses, Marlborough and Ad Hoc.

At least he can have a retirement. And I hope he has a very long one. Will always be one of my favourite boys and his glory days remain some of my best ever racing moments.

Sorry if I should know this, but do you have a connection with Nicky Henderson’s yard, or the owner? It’s just that I haven’t found that news about retirement reported elsewhere??

How could I forget Voler La Vedette – also add For Bill to the mix and Venetia Williams mare La Bombonera (whenever they decide to run her).

I read elsewhere that Tarla was injured and likely to miss at least most of this season.

La Bombonera was very disappointing in the two runs she has had, most recently at Cheltenham

Given Brennan’s ride on Our Columbus at Chepstow today (for NTD as well), the recent revelation doesn’t seemed to have affected his performances.

Despite the news of the "split", the subsequent events suggest nothing has really changed other than Brennan is no longer "officially" NTD stable jockey. Looks like he’ll still be riding for the yard and with Sam and young Willie also around in the coming months, cant see anyone really coming out of the scenario badly. Brennan will be free for more outside rides, dont think there is another retainer lined up.

As for the Scu/Pond House scenario…someone mentioned young Scu heading north to Lucinda Russell – doubt Peter Buchanan and Campbell Gillies will be quaking in their boots. Both upwardly mobile riders in my book, riding for an upwardly mobile northern stable to boot!

I very much doubt that Tom would move to the Russell yard. I hear he prefers to make his own way in life, independently from his father

If you mean the National course, nowhere!

THe Mildmay course is flat and sharp, with fairly stiff fences, so take it from there. THere is no substitute for course form.

A short while ago it has been reported in the press that Henderson has had ANOTHER drug test returned positive, presumably around the time of the Binocular incident.

IF the "B" sample returns positive it will be a second time Henderson has been caught for this.

It will be interesting if this produces a similar outcome to last time. In a month or so will probably be the right time for a 3 month suspension I suppose.

Aiden O’Brien got done for "bringing racing into disrepute"?

I assume this is the end of the "bringing racing into disrepute" charge, and it will never be used again?

When unfashionable trainers say things but actually don’t do anything, no rule is broken; except they still get done for "bringing racing into disrepute"

Obviously this rule doesn’t apply to Henderson.

If the acid test for a disrepute charge was the reaction of the legendary man on the street I think that anyone outside of Racing’s elite would regard this as dodgy to say the least, a fact I think the BHA acknowledge with their "ill judged and inappropriate" comment

Where’s Paul Struthers now he has to defend this even more blatant favouritism??

Think we will see Kalahari King ridden prominently in this now his stamina is proven. He has the burst of speed to put the others to the sword from the front.

Come on we all know that all the worlds best racehorses have always been British: Arkle, Red Rum, Best Mate, Golden Miller, Hatton’s Grace, Sir Ken, Sea Pigeon, Dawn Run, Alderbrook, Itsabraq, Hardy Eustace, Katchit, Viking Flagship, Moscow Flyer, Master Minded, Kauto Star, Denman and Njinsky, Mill Reef, Shergar, Benny The Dip, Motivator, Authorized, New Approach, Dylan Thomas, Duke Of Marmalade, Conduit and Sea The Stars

We all know that American horses are not as good as ours as they run on all-weather courses. Who else agrees with me?
And if anyone can convince me that I am wrong they get best answer and I will apologise to everyone.

If the trainers want to gallop in public I just want the public to know who is galloping. After all everyone seems to think the racing depends on the public. We have the official clocker here who tells the public the times of every gallop of every horse. All gallops are done in public.

All of Ferdy Murphys horses wore number cloths and the commentator identified them all during the gsllop. Don’t think HJ’s horses wore numbers but not 100% sure.

Ferdy’s gallop was also on ATR on Sunday

My sister went to Donny on Saturday – says Arcalis was one of those working at Doncaster. Plus a big impressive chestnut, but horse wasn’t identified that she could catch. Went well though! I can’t remember if she said it she thought it was one of Ferdy’s?

Think Hollo Ladies was the only chesnut in the Murphy string

    Shhhhhhhhhhhoooosh

You should never mention the cheeky cheekpieces, otherwise everyone will want in on the action.

It’s not like they’re not easy to spot. Not unless there’s a variation of thoroughbred with mutton chop sideburns that I’m not aware of.

Quite a few trainers use brown ones now which are much less obvious.

Of course the cheekpieces now have to be declared, but it wasn’t always so, and miraculous improvements were often credited to the surprise fitment of cheekpieces..

More recently you could declare with a visor and change to blinkers or sheepskin cheekpieces without further notification.
Maybe that is still the case?

The tongue tie is used for two reasons.

One is to stop horses putting their tongue over the bit.

Secondly and more commonly it is to position and hold the tongue for optimum airflow. as some horses allow the tongue to partially obstruct their airway. It is particularly used on horses who have Dorsal Displacement of the Soft Palate, as part of a strategy often in conjunction with surgery or cauterisation of the soft palate.

There are plenty in France, and I know of several good ones out of french claimers.

I understand Guy Petit is a very good french agent at this sort of level, he is well worth his modest fee as he sorts the wheat from the chaff.

    I don’t understand C-R’s point here.

There are so few races with sufficient prizemoney it is impossible to have a black and white view on this. The Horseman’e Group is not asking for a boycott of all races below thw tariff, they are asking people to use the tariff to guide them.

If a horse of mine had a choice of 4 races of which one was above and 3 below the tariff I would ask the trainer to enter in the above tariff race. If we had a horse that hadn’t run for months and was rated 135 the choice would be very limited and we wouldn’t have the luxury of choosing.

That luxury comes when we consider replacing a horse that’s retiring; we won’t unless the prizemoney increases

The elephant in the room for Paul is that the perception of the racing public is that Nicky Henderson is a well connected, well educated man who moves in the top social circles and wears the right tie, and that because of that he got a soft deal on a serious issue.

Other trianers have been warned off for much longer periods for offences which to many seem no more serious.

I’m not talking facts here, but perceptions. That’s what a PR man has to deal with isn’t it Paul?
