Greetings from Longchamp! It’s a nice day again, quite warm but a bit cloudy, no chance of rain in my opinion!

    Good morning from Paris everyone.

It is cloudy at the moment, no sunshine today, so a bit colder than yesterday, but no sign of rain yet and it doesn’t look like it will rain. I will update further when I am at the course in about an hour and a half.

In Paris now, got a cracking hotel near Longchamp, south west of the centre. Will give u going updates and weather reports tomorrow and Sunday. Dry at the mo, similar to UK autumn weather.

I had a dream last night that S T S won by about 3 lengths. I can remember seeing him cross the line in my dream. Probably because all I’ve been thinking about for the past 2 weeks is my trip to Paris this Friday!

One question Anglo – and answer it with the honesty you clearly possess.

The horse is top-class, you know the form intimately…at the time of placing the bet, did you honestly think that 33-1

    wasn’t

    a palpable error?

    Mike

It shouldn’t matter, it’s their mistake and they should honour it. They should hold their hands up and say ‘we ****** up, and as a goodwill gesture we will honour the bet and ensure this doesn’t happen again’.

If a punter writes the wrong info on a betting slip I bet the bookmaker won’t allow him the mistake and refund his money.

As for asking your friends to return the money, I’d tell the bookmaker to go **** himself after hearing what has happened to you.

I had a similar situation where I was scribbling a bet down and managed to put it on even though the horses had just started running.

When the race ended and my horse had won they said it was void as the prices shouldn’t have still been up and it should have said ‘race off’.

I explained they had only run about 10 metres (and it wasn’t a 5f race), and asked them to honour the bet, but they only paid a fraction of it out.

In my opinion it is the bookmaker’s fault (if the screen is operated from the national office), or the staff in the shop if they operate it, and it is just tough luck for them and they shouldn’t be making mistakes like that, and if they do they should hold their hands up and pay out, because it doesn’t happen often.

    Cheers guys.

From your advice I think I will put all my bets on via my mobile calling William Hill back in the UK. I have an account with Sporting Bet too but they are useless and you can’t place bets on the phone.

    Cheers Paul!

We are going for the weekend, Friday morning back Monday night.

We haven’t paid in advance, I heard you just pay at the gate – EUR 8?

Thanks for the advice regarding picking up a Racing Post, we won’t know half the horses so will want to read up about all the entries before losing our money!

    :D

Looks like it’s just me and my mate at the mo :D

Has anyone who has been before got any advice? Do they have race cards? I presume they do, but are they only in French though? Is there a Racing Post stand there in anticipation of a lot of Brits being there who want a copy?

Do we need to set off very early from Paris? Etc etc?

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks!

    Yeats 9/4
    Alandi 3/1
    Kasbah Bliss 7/2
    Septimus 5/1
    Schiaparelli 6/1
    Askar Tau 7/1
    Incanto Dream 8/1
    Pointilliste 10/1
    Geordieland 12/1

They are the first few in the betting..

Cracking line up, although I’ve never heard of Alandi, Incanto Dream, or Pointilliste.

8/1 is good each way odds for your choice Irish Stamp.

After Yeats being beaten the 2 previous years he has run I wouldn’t want to touch him at 9/4. Him just winning would be a ‘win’ for me, as I have never seen him live, and to bow out here with a win would make my weekend.

I might have an each way on Askar Tau, and will investigate Incanto Dream.. :D

I am praying that Sea The Stars turns up now! I backed Stacelita each way months ago, thinking STS won’t run, but it seems they are interested now. I don’t care about my bet now I just want to see this superstar in the flesh as I am going to Longchamp. Please please turn up and let’s have good ground!

STS drifted to 15/2 before the declarations as it was thought that he wouldn’t run due to the ground, I pondered with the idea of whacking some money on those odds. I now see he is 4/5 favourite. Would 15/2 have been a non-runner money back bet with most bookies in this instance?

LOST money Chris! He was available at 14 earlier in the week!

    :(

I should have checked more weather sites!

I see Yeats has been entered in the Arc now, may or may not run. I find this very unusual, a 2.5 mile specialist, dropping to 1.5 miles, Magnier reckons ‘stayers do well in the Arc’. I know horses change distances now and then, but isn’t this extreme? Has it happened before and what chance do people give Yeats if he runs?

I can’t get my head round it! Saw it on Channel 4 teletext just now..
