But FIst, some of your arguments defy some logic. Firstly I dont really know why you can say RVW isnt a 10 furlong horse given how he managed to finish out the derby well enough and he clearly stayed against Sea the Stars.
By the same definition, genuine group 1 horses at 12 furlongs tend to very very good at 10 also. Your clearly not a fan of fame and glory but Ill be very surprised if he isnt at least placed in the arc and I happen to think he is genuine group 1 material (bet you he will finish in front of conduit

There is little doubth that if STS really stays 12 furlongs, he will have too much finishing toe for any of these but there is a real danger that he might not be really staying it out and therefore he could look a bit one paced.

September 30, 2009 at 14:27 #250913Zenyatta’s closest race, her last one she was almost beaten by a ex De Royer-Dupree Horse who was racing in US for the first time who was a Listed horse at best who hadn’t won in ages. This was on Polytrack remember.
Rip Van Winkle I think would easily have her measure.
September 30, 2009 at 15:53 #250925I expect this topic to regain its course towards the end of the week, so talk of the Breeders Cup Classic will do no harm for the moment!
I agree with Fist regarding Zenyatta. I’ve been championing this girl for the past fifteen months and she’s right up there with the best I’ve seen.
Not too many horses have gone twelve-for-twelve and she has, on occasions, given lumps of weight away to her rivals (not to mention her customary 10 – 15 length headstart) and still swooped by them with the minimum of fuss.
Her performance last time out was not visually impressive, but Mike Smith gave her rivals a huge lead (still 8 lengths down turning in with a stretch of approx. 1 1/2 furlongs) and she hit the line at 40 mph without breaking sweat.
It was easier than it looked. Her ears shot up when she moved into third and when you look at her shortly after the race (3:15 on the link I’ve pasted), prancing around and playing with the bit, you wouldn’t even thought she had a race.
Mike Smith didn’t have to hit her once, yet she covered the last quarter in :22.49 and hit the line at 40mph, only for Smith to turn round and say she found another gear after the line!
If she’s within two lengths of Sea The Stars – a horse who will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the greatest of all time – and Rip Van Winkle turning in, she’ll kill ’em.
I agree with those who have reservations about her running in the ‘real’ Classic. It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if they decided on the Ladies’ version instead. They would rather Sea The Stars not turn up (and vice versa) and their decision could well rest on whether or not he takes his chance after Longchamp.
Interesting that Gary Stevens believes Zenyatta would ‘win for fun’ against, not only Rachel Alexandra, but also Winning Colors and Serena’s Song.
High praise, indeed.
September 30, 2009 at 17:30 #250942I had a dream last night that S T S won by about 3 lengths. I can remember seeing him cross the line in my dream. Probably because all I’ve been thinking about for the past 2 weeks is my trip to Paris this Friday!
September 30, 2009 at 18:03 #250944I have dreams that have no relation to what i am thinking about all day.Funny isn’t it?
September 30, 2009 at 18:08 #250945Zenyatta hasn’t raced of anything like the calibre of Rip Van Winkle nevermind Sea The Stars.
American Racing is very weak at the moment….expect Europe to dominate especially since Zenyatta will go for the Ladies Classic i would imagine
What happened to:- they can only beat what’s put in front of them?
You didn’t use that logic for Sea the Stars, so why apply it for Zenyatta ?
Quite, Graeme!
Maybe….just maybe….wait for it….
every horse that Zenyatta’s beat has been running at the wrong trip…DOH!!!
September 30, 2009 at 18:12 #250946Bosranic; Did he say anything about Rags to Riches, the best filly I have seen in thirty years of race watching.

No. I found the clip on YouTube.
Basically, Gary was asked who would win a race between Zenyatta, Rachel Alexandra, Winning Colors and Serena’s Song.
He said Zenyatta would win for fun because the others all had the same running style.
The link below was filmed during her latest win. I challenge anyone to watch the clip of her walking out into the parade ring and not fall in love with her (25 seconds).
She’s not only beautiful to look at, but a wonderful mover – a real athlete. If she wins the BCC, the place will go nuts!
October 1, 2009 at 01:34 #250996I agree with "H" while the Arc is one hard race to win the unltimate test for Sea the Stars must be to take on the filly.
Why does this fillies name keep cropping up in a discussion on the Arc? Pointless, boring and irrelevent.
October 1, 2009 at 07:58 #251017There is always one more test. And still the doubters will not believe.
October 1, 2009 at 14:10 #251042Hellooooo….this is the arc!! STS is hardly going to go for the breeders cup anyway given that what he is attempting to do in the arc is extremely difficult, even given his talent with a less than ideal regime to this point, and it would be grossly unfair to ask him to then travel to the US. Zenyatta certainly has had very limited ambition compared to both him and especially Rachel Alexander. The latter is the real heron on that side of the pond irregardless of how good any of us think Zenyatta is.
Overall though, if either of those fillies were put in a box and sent over for the arc, they would find out very quickly that they are not in Kansas anymore, regardless of ability.

October 1, 2009 at 15:39 #251062TOTE IRELAND OFFERS DIRECT ACCESS TO PMU POOLS FOR THIS WEEKENDS PRIX DE L’ARC DE TRIOMPHE
Tote Ireland is the only betting operator in the UK and Ireland to offer direct access to live PMU pools for all races at this weekends Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in Longchamp. Tote account holders are able to bet via the Tote Ireland website http://www.thetote.com, the Tote call centre on 1850 238 669, from the UK freephone 0800 904 7784 and Longchamp on the international line 00 353 51 595 150 as well as at Irish racecourses.
More than 40 countries will bet on the Arc and in 2008 over €55.4 million was bet with the PMU throughout the weekend.
Betting into the live PMU pools has delivered considerable returns for Irish and UK runners in the past including:
2008 – Soldier of Fortune paid €2.50 for a place
2007 – When Dylan Thomas won you could back Soldier of Fortune and still get paid out at €3.50 even though he came 5th and was 100/30 SP.
2006 – Rail Link paid €24.60 on the PMU vs 8/1 SP.
2005 – Hurricane Run paid €2.90 vs 11/4 sp PLUS you would have been paid the same had Scorpion won.
2004 – Ouija Board returned 7/1 SP and paid a huge €4.10 for a place.
2003 – High Chaparral paid €1.90 place when 13/8 favourite to win the race. There is considerable Irish interest this weekend with John Oxx’s brilliant Sea the Stars and Aidan O’Brien’s Fame and Glory strongly fancied. There are 8 Group 1 races with 4 Group 2 races. Racing starts at 1.00 on Saturday and at the earlier time of 12.15 on Sunday with the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe starting at 3.15.
“It’s the race of champions, the most incredible race, the race that is unique and the race one is privileged to win.”
Aidan 0’Brien, Winning Trainer in 2007Alexis Murphy, Chief Executive of the Tote said “This is a unique opportunities for punters based in Ireland and the UK to benefit from the massively liquid pools that are a feature of Arc weekend, while also potentially getting value by betting against the French punters. It’s still early days to call the betting: Sea the Stars will be favoured by all punters, however the French are likely to support Cavalryman and Vision d’Etat so there could be good value for Fame and Glory and Conduit in both the win and place markets. I have no doubt the shrewder punters will be keeping a watchful eye betting into the pools to exploit these opportunities.”
October 1, 2009 at 16:40 #251078Will the firms not offer the option to bet at PMU odds also?

I never thought about that
October 1, 2009 at 22:52 #251159Yo just put PMU on your slip on the betting in the betting shop…
Back the French horses with the British bookmakers and take the pmu for the forgeners.
As for Rachel, she ai bloody miler not a middle distance horswe running on sand, in her own enviroment she is a monster, she has yet too run further than nine furlongs. Over ten furlongs on the alweather ( not dirt) and she is toast.
Sea The Stars will win the Arc, Da Rai Me will will be placed and the horse she bested in the trails will be be thrashd, her connections will look like twats as their mare is beaten out of site..

Why will they look like twats?
October 2, 2009 at 03:22 #251205I’m off to Paris at 06:35 in the morning.
Enjoy the racing everyone, I can’t wait!
Come on Sea The Stars!!!
