Can watch it here http://www.courses-france.com/modules/n … 73&forum=4 which is cool for me as based in NZ at the mo.
Think it shares the fact its the countries largest handicap and name, not much else!! (other than some scary ditchs)
See Paul Webber has entered 2 this week end at Auteuil.
Yep hopefully some foriegn challengers for the big races in May/June. Mr Nicholls was talking about taking Nozic over a while back and sure Mr Mullins will do somthing.
Lets hope Aintree is on the soft side of good so we can see it! (I know the Melling is 2 1/2 miles but no reason why an older Well Chief can’t stay)
My view is that Kauto jumps well, 4ish errors this season in very good races (3 gr1’s and 2 gr2’s), never looked like falling and all coming when max pressure is on at the end of races, so if Kauto can cruise to the last (highly probable) its got to be a hell of a mistake to dislodge Mr Walsh from winning his first Gold Cup!
Huge Best Mate fan but race of the last decade for me is the 2004 Tingle Creek where the 3 all had a chances turning in, that form wins Well Chief the QM easily for me. (or within a stone of it)
On the match I’ll decide after Cheltenham.

Wish it was 5lbs and 7lbs penalties!! (personal interest might be clouding this though:) ) worth pointing out it is an open race as novices are catered for else where at the festival.
Think the race is great for horses rated 150-160 (Grade 2 horses in my eyes) and horses that need that 2 mile 5 trip eg Dublin Flyer, but true grade 1 horses must still go for one of the championship races for all our enjoyment.
Wish the Ascot chase got more prestige, just doesn’t seem a natural hole in the calender for it, some great winners but never really great fields.
Please Monets G go for the Queen Mother chase and My Way for the Sun Alliance chase !!
Weel graysonscolumn, the season finished early September with the national jumps day, with the only meeting of the year were there are more jumps races than flat!! Then the races were changed after entries as only 10 entered for three chases!!
Not heard/or seen anything about any horses I have seen being transported over yet( considered getting my cheque book out a couple of times though!!).
The Great Northern hurdle was won by a 9yo flat convert, having third run over hurdles Just not Cricket. The Great Norhern Chase was won by a horse that had earlier in the year won a big race in Australia, Real Tonic. But the main news of this jumps season was the sad passing of Ken Brown, who was pretty much jump racing for last 30 or so years.
PS. Get well Fondmort.
Sounds like Vodka Bleu is the D Pipe representative, my two tentative choices are Knowhere and Tumbling Dice. Any views?
I’m based in NZ at the moment so not getting my usual NH fix.
Continuing plea,
Could of just added One Man and Teeton Mill and said that because he is grey he will win the Hennessy!!
Cost me loads to get the handicapper to agree to give him a mark of 150 (as I predicted post Chelt!);)
Still not seen his fence splitting run at Chelt but I would agree ithat he must learn a lot more from the Hennessy than dotting up in a 5 runner novice chase.
The Dessie and Golden Miller chases have been downgraded over time, but they are there for the memory. Think the place as much as the prestige matters, so Cheltenham would be good. My vote would go for the Pillar Chase in January.
Will the Best Mate statue go in the Best Mate enclosure?
I always thought a Best Mate v Moscow Flyer match at the Punchestown festival would of been something special.
Digressing, some races you just wish you could of given him more talented competition, the 2nd GC win will always spring to mind, (he could of beaten anything that day or he was flattered due to poor opposition we will never know), But I’m of the opinion he would of challenged the best ever on that one day.
My season (life) centres around the Gold Cup, so to witness a triple winner first hand was amazing, thank you Best Mate, even backed him (on looks) in the bumper he won at Cheltenham.
Total class, jumped, travelled and tough. Bar a bad ride and F&M he would have won at 5 consecutive festivals.
More pictures of Matey in my house than my missus says it all!
Yep just read Jonjo’s comments on the RP site, the grade 2 that Cornish Rebel won last year is likely to be his next race. Seen his other attempts over fences (only listened today) and was happy with his jumping, granted he guesed/low at a couple, but nothing alarming.
Hope he is sound tomorrow if he jumped that badly.
Also hope Rob Lester Jnr is celebrating so he still looks sick on his return to work tomorrow!;)
This statement was post Bangor:
BHB senior handicapper Phil Smith yesterday forecasting a mark "in the 140s"
I could see a rise of 7lbs tops for today’s win, hence my 150 guess.
With this new chase taking away the top class chasers that could be close to top weight (11st5-8lbish). I think the Hennesey is tailor made for him, next step of the ladder and all that.
Well done to IG (sounded convincing enough), Newbury for the Hennesey has to be favourite if given a handicap mark of less than 150?
To me IG is all about engine and bottle, I can remember the scrap with Ad Hoc at Chelt in 02, if he gets to the third last come March I might be rushing to back him.
Not all Gold Cup winners are great jumpers, how close did Take TS get last year!
Vague recollection think it was the races on Channel 4 that will be free to watch or something similar.
Looked on the racing uk site and the cuttings library of the RP site and can’t see anything.
I often push 432 in hope!
Back to the thread, good luck RL, being positive IG will win more easily back at Cheltenham and over 3m.
Looks a good race to get 3 wins on the board before Haydock/Newbury, and some proper competition.
Cheltenham wins for the festival, you love to hate it but it draws you back, best racing for me means the best course I know it shouldn’t but sorry. Have sometimes gone in the summer to watch the grass grow!(very sad)
Point to point course – Badbury rings
Further a field:
I go to Auteuil occasionaly you get in for £3ish, usually good racing, if you go on a day were its graded races, half the horses end up over here later on , good view, allways empty, fair view from the stand with a free seat.
Would love to say a race course in Ireland but it allways rains when I go.
Would love to go to the Pardubice and the big Merano chase sometime, would love a more international element to jump racing.
Kicking King – he might mature this year!
United – looked impressive(dark horse for champion)
Mephisto – top novice form
Moscow Flyer – think they will run him less this year but could still win the two that count
Racing Demon – looked good enough to fill some empty shoes
Neptune Collonges – interesting in novice hurdles
Comply or Die – Henessey/National horse
Distant Thunder – Allways have Renoldstwn winner in!
Don’t be shy – Pipe winner of the Arkle?
Missed That – another Mullins hotpot
I now I’m short on hurdlers but they should only get half points any way.
Seperate question, enrolled on this racing manager competition through the order of merit website yet to hear anything? has anyone else?
