1.30 – Nine De Sivola (NAP)
2.05 – Diamond Harry
2.40 – The Market Man
3.20 – Well Chief
4.00 – Mirage Dore
4.40 – Alexander Severus (Reserve NAP)
5.15 – Shinrock PaddyWell Chief would give Master Minded a serious race if he ran up to the form that he reached against Moscow Flyer & Azertyuiop. Unfortunately after such a long layoff that’s highly unlikely to happen.
Even if he’s retained only a quarter of his ability he’d still be better than the rest of this lineup outside of MM.
1.30 – Torphichen
2.05 – Forpadydeplasterer (Reserve NAP)
2.40 – Golden Flight (NAP)
3.20 – Jered
4.00 – Puntal
4.40 – Aura About YouI’ve always enjoyed both the National Hunt & Flat racing equally. I’d get as excited watching Dayjur, Dubai Millenium & Zarkava as I would watching Desert Orchid, Moscow Flyer & Kauto Star.
A very, very talented racehorse. Around 2m 4f at Aintree he was awesome, I think even Istabraq would have had a hard time beating Morley Street there.

Nashwan won the 2,000 Guineas, Derby, Eclipse & King George in the one season, I doubt we’ll see that feat accomplished again for a long time. Very harsh to describe him as overrated.
Waterloo Boy gets underrated, probably due to the fact that he never won a Champion Chase but he won every other top race in the 2m division. He was only prevented from winning the CC because he came up against three top class chasers in Barnbrook Again, Katabatic & Remittance Man.
Dubai Millennium & Hawk Wing are probably the two most controversial horses from the last 10 years or so. A heck of a lot of heated discussion has gone on about those two horses.
For me, I’d probably select George Washington as being a tad overrated. He clearly had plenty of ability but I certainly wouldn’t have him up with the best milers that I’ve seen.
double post
Everyone wants the Denman vs Kauto Star rematch in the Gold Cup, so hopefully Denman shows he retains his ability today and wins the race.
Flat Horses – Dayjur. I highly doubt this fellow will make the final 10 but I nominate him because without doubt he is up there with the greatest sprinters that have raced. He’s certainly by far and away the best from the last 20 years or so.
National Hunt – Desert Orchid, Istabraq
Trainers – Henry Cecil, Nicky Henderson
Jockeys – Steve Cauthen, Richard Dunwoody.
Others – Peter O’Sullivan
Master Minded looks a certainty for the Champion Chase. Well Chief is the only other 2m chaser in training that has the ability to challenge MM. Unfortunately, it would be a miracle if David Pipe could get him to run to his best in the CC after such a long layoff.
Well Chief to make a miracle comeback and defeat Master Minded in the Champion Chase. What an awesome sight that would be.
Denman, Kauto Star & Exotic Dancer to be all fit and ready to race on Gold Cup day.
Aidan O’Brien is a great trainer and Coolmore produce lots of brilliant horses but it would be nice if other stables could win some Group 1 races this year just to add a bit of variety to the flat.
Europe to dominate the Breeders Cup again at Santa Anita.
I think Our Vic is good each-way value in this. He has the form in the book, the blinkers worked really well for him at the back end of last season and he runs really well fresh.
Out of interest (whilst I learn more about NH), who is the next best 2 mile chaser behind MM?
Well Chief is still in training and would be a major threat to MM if he has retained his ability. However that’s highly unlikely given the amount of time he has been off the track due to injury.
It’s hard to see Master Minded getting beaten over 2m this season.
Well Chief is probably the only 2m chaser in training that could give MM a race but unfortunately he’s been off the track for so long that it would be a miracle if he made a successful comeback. -
