Did anybody else think, like I did that Twist Magic was travelling the better of the 2 when he came down 2 out.
I am not so sure Master Minded would have won if hTwist Magic had stood up.
I do not think he is the good thing that everyone makes out in the QMCC.
December 7, 2008 at 02:07 #194976You were watching a different race to me.
December 7, 2008 at 02:34 #194981Shouldn’t this be in the discussion of the Tingle Creek?

Value Is EverythingDecember 7, 2008 at 02:50 #194986Twist Magic was travelling well, but he wouldnt have got within a ‘cooey’ of Master Minded.
December 7, 2008 at 03:15 #194995I have to agree with Grasshopper – had Twist Magic not have fallen he would almost certainly have finished second – however he still would not have been within five lengths of Master Minded and if by some chance he did get close then McCoy had plenty in hand to repel the challenge.
However I have to say the 4/7 on offer for the QM is absurd so far in advance of the race when so much can go wrong.
December 7, 2008 at 03:24 #194997Twist Magic was travelling well granted, but would he have been able to stay with Master Minded when he kicked away, very much doubt it. I’d still keep Tidal Bay on my good side though, 2 miles is too quick for him and I honestly think the King George is tailor-made for him. Back to Master Minded though and people should enjoy his final season at 2 miles, next season he will be Denman’s only serious Gold Cup rival.

So what price should Master Minded be, Paul, given that Howard Johnson will avoid running Tidal Bay against him from now on, Twist Magic doesn’t stay two miles at Cheltenham and the distinct lack of any other remotely serious threats in his division?
Twist Magic was indeed still travelling well when coming down but, whilst I certainly don’t think he shirks the issue (at Sandown at least) when asked for an effort, it’s hard to believe that he’d have been able to cope with Master Minded.
Stunning performance.
Whoever it was who said that Master Minded will be Denman’s only serious Gold Cup rival next season, I remember being shot down for saying exactly the same thing the day after his Champion Chase victory. Still, I think it would be an interesting course to pursue.
December 7, 2008 at 08:30 #195051Good question that? What price should he be?
Well Helen Mirren was 1/100 to win the Oscar for the queen and she has only 2 legs that I am aware of.
The only possible danger would be Tidal bay if it came up heavy round the stiffer Cheltenham course he might get a bit closer. That however isn’t going to happen so really this has echoes of Arkle in his second and thrid Gold Cup.
We will end up with no more than 6 horses in the race. Most likely PN will fill the first 3 places and Master Minded will start around 1/6 to 1/10 fav. I would say that’s about fair for a good horse like him to stand up which is all he has to do.
I notice he is 4/7 at the moment but that is gamblng against the horse making it to the race, not winning which must be a foregone conclusion.
Not many will be prepared to take the risk at this time but 3 weeks before the race? You won’t get 4/11 and on the day he will be unbackable.

Master Minded could run around Sandown straight after that win and beat a fresh field again, he piss’d it.
December 7, 2008 at 09:07 #195058Out of interest (whilst I learn more about NH), who is the next best 2 mile chaser behind MM?
December 7, 2008 at 09:31 #195063A question that will no doubt split opinion myles but I would say that it is Voy Por Ustedes, but VPU is a horse who saves his best for cheltenham, yet despite most of the talk on this thread about TB being a monster at 2 miles, I dont think he ever showed the sort of form at 2 miles that VPU showed in the second of his 2 cheltenham victories or in his MM defeat at cheltenham. On heavy ground Tamarinbleu would surely be right up there to on his victor chandler run of last season. Will be interesting to see who everyone else fancies but they would be my pair of primary challengers

December 7, 2008 at 13:54 #195079Unfortunately their doesn`t appear to be much in the two mile division and as far as TIDAL BAY is concerned if he jumps like he did yesterday he wouldn`t get over the first at Cheltenham, of course MM is the one to beat but 8-11 is laying material, we are talking three months + Cheltenhams tricky fences to overcome!!
December 7, 2008 at 14:51 #195085Wnen I say 4/7 is absurd I mean as a betting proposition – it probably is a realistic price.
However lumping on at 4/7 three months before the race is far too risky an investment.

It was a great day Clive and, as usual, a good crowd and atmosphere and it was good to meet up with you again.
Summed up my day – in the three close finishing races I came off second best in each one – and to rub salt in the wounds it was your nag who beat me in two of them – you git!!!

As we agreed when we saw him in the parade ring he looked magnificent – by far the best horse on display yesterday. Although I must admit that loose horse was worrying me – I had visions of another Clan Royal moment for McCoy.

If you are talking current horses in training he’s in the same yard his name is Kauto Star
